This is a great set-up. Smaller cogs are identical to the 11-34t cassette and the three larger cogs gives great range for climbing or people who are not as powerful. Thank you for the set-up video!
I'm used to 50/34 with 11-34 for the hills round me. Just ordered a new bike with 52/36 with 11/30. Was worried about getting up them hills but now I know an can get a granny gear fitted at some time I'm reassured thankyou
Great video, well explained spacer and B screw adjustment. These top tips are very welcome for us folks who are still keen to learn about bike mechanics 👍🏼
Great video! I am looking to duplicate this exact setup on my Canyon Endurace. I'm putting together an off-road/gravel setup and the 40 tooth will come in handy for our steep fireroads!
I tried 11-36 with a spacer on a compact chain ring and it couldn’t reach the 36t Now I know I do need a longer chain as reckoned Thanks for this tip I always like your videos Thanks and keep up the good work
Great video... I just wish Shimano would manufacturer cassettes with mid compact chainset appropriate ratios... such as 13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25-28-32-36
mid compact crank with 11-28 cassette is what pros use; it's insane for us weekend warriors. I myself just roll down the steeper hills, no need to pedal IMO. I have seen someone on youtube combining a 14-28 cassette with an 11-40 cassette. I'm thinking to do that on my road bike.
Great to know. I just bought a Deore 9 speed, long cage rear for my new 10 speed, Tiagra equipped gravel bike, with a stock 50/36 compact crankset, and a 11-32 cassette. I should be able to jump up to an 11-36, 10 speed Deore cassette with ease. If anyone is curious why I chose a Deore 9 speed long cage derailleur, it's because it's a unique outlier for a MTB rear derailleur, that has a rate of pull which is compatible with all Shimano road STI shifters.
Great video… exactly what need coz’ I’ve been thinking of putting a 11-34 to my 105 gs set up from 11-30 cassette and maybe someday also put 11-40… thumbs up 👍
Hi i have 52/36 front Ultegra R8000 crank with 11/28 cassette in rear with SRAM Etap 11 speed RD it's Standard short cage version want to have 11-34 or 11-32 atleast for better hill climbing. Let me know will just b tension screw and longer chain swap will work or do I need Roadlink wolftooth or similar. Thank you
Yes. I even use it in a x2 System. But mine has a compact chain 34/50T. I've been using the new Roadlink DM (designed for the new 7000, 8000 and 9000 Shimano RD) on mine as it gives me another 1/2" length on the Derailleur link... $30 well spent...
Excellent video with clear and detailed explanations! Would the Ultegra GS derailleur work with a 11-42t? I’ve got a Ultegra RD-6700 GS Di2 currently running a 11-34t cassette. Thanks

I run Shram 11/36 on Shimano Di2 with 50/34 crankset, it needed zero adjustments

hmmm do we even use all the rear gears ? seem like we are paying xtra , lol

Shram works on shimano as I run shram 11/36 on shimano di2

why u wont go for sora 9 speed brakeshifter instead of tiagra 10 speed to work with 9 speed deore RD?
Fantastic ! Thank you very much !
Proper for vertical climbs

Great video. May I ask if it’s possible for MTB hybrid setup, 9speed 50-34T crankset and 11-36T cassette, and what chain should I use?
I don't understand, how come 40t fits, although Shimano says 34t max?
Hello, may I ask the spacer that you use at the sprocket. Is it the same spacer that usually used for 10 speed? (1.8mm thickness?)
Yes 1.8mm spacer!
Guaauuu, Great vídeo
cheers

Se puede hacer lo mismo con un cambio trasero 105 R7000?
Better going back to a triple chainset with a smaller, lighter close ratio (ie 11-28)cassette at the back!!
Great video again! Would a R7000 or R8000 rear derailleur work with perhaps a 11-46t cassette or larger even with a RoadLink?
It’s best to switch to A GRX derailleur and go from there. R8000 and r7000 is limited up to 34. So 40 is really already pushing it.
@@hmcps89 what about doing the 52/36 11-40 with the gsx 810 rear mech?
Thanks for this! Would an 11-42 cassette work on a shimano gs Road deraileur if running 1x?
Yes. I even use it in a x2 System. But mine has a compact chain 34/50T. I've been using the new Roadlink DM (designed for the new 7000, 8000 and 9000 Shimano RD) on mine as it gives me another 1/2" length on the Derailleur link... $30 well spent...
Dick Tchairdjian Thank you for the info!
@@Tchairdjian I've successfully done this with an 11-40 cassette. Works perfectly.
Ps: A lot of people say that you don't need the Roadlink for an 11-40 cassette, but it's probably recommended for 11-42 or more.
Will 52/36 11-40 work with the GRX 810 rear mech or will I have to get ultegra? Thank you!
GRX 810 rear mech is 11 speed so will work the same way but there are different sizes of the mech, so you might need to test out.
Excellent video with clear and detailed explanations! Would the Ultegra GS derailleur work with a 11-42t? I’ve got a Ultegra RD-6700 GS Di2 currently running a 11-34t cassette. Thanks
Yes, works perfectly.
TRY 11X40 TO 53X39
does this fit on a mtb ?
HI!Will 53/34 work with 11-34 cassete?
ruclips.net/video/P5G_KtK3LVk/видео.html
yo. so would a 50/36t work?
If 40t works, then 36t works
Looks horrible, but probably needed for steep hills 😊
