I only learned about Bruce Forsyth having been the original presenter of You Bet recently when I came across an old listing of the show from 1988 and it mentioned Bruce as the presenter. Not only didn't I know he presented it but I never knew it was being shown in the late 80s, I always thought it started around 1993-ish. If you asked most people who presented You Bet they will say Matthew Kelly.
This is a rare treat to see how You Bet started with the late Sir Bruce Forsyth back in 1988. What a shame Sir Bruce later regretted presenting You Bet! Your RUclips channel, Mister Doc, is the gift that keeps on giving.
@@antster1983 Sir Bruce said in his 2001 autobiography You Bet was not the show for him as the show did not allow him to get in amongst the people like he did on The Generation Game.
@MatthewHadley-f9z So he felt he was miscast for a show like this. Fair enough. At least he returned to the BBC after recording the third series to present a new gameshow for them, _Takeover Bid,_ and a revival of _The Generation Game._
The original theme and incidental music by Alan Lisk. Replaced by a new theme and music by Jonathan Sorrell from Series 2 onwards and used until the end of Darren Day's first series. Alan Lisk composed a much more memorable theme tune a few years later for the sitcom _Men Behaving Badly._
Bruce Forsyth hosts the very first episode of the classic game show in with a panel of celebrities would bet on the ability of members of the public to achieve unlikely challenges and stunts. It's you bet for the very first time back in 1988 with co host Ellis Ward and a panel of celebrities are Richard Digance, Kate Robbins and Dickie Davies.
So _You Bet!_ made its home at Shepperton Studios, at least for the first and third Brucie series (the second was made at Limehouse - themselves former premises of LWT) and the entire Matthew Kelly run. The first Darren Day series was filmed at Pinewood and the second at the now demolished London Arena. The current iteration with the former Ministry of Mayhem was made at the new Shinfield Studios complex just south of Reading.
I liked it. Although wasn’t a fan of the sob stories and the bunch of breaks. You Bet winners won because they had talent, not because they had a good sob story and also some talent: also I don’t think we needed that many breaks
@@misterdocuk That is why current ITV programmes are falling behind time because of increased ad breaks. I did watch a bit of the You Bet reboot, but I did become slightly underwhelmed by it.

He was one of the greatest entertainers ever, he deserved to live to at least 100
Ellis Ward 💖💖💖💖💖💖
So this is how You Bet! all began, thank you once again Mister Doc for bringing us this

How did he end up regretting hosting _You Bet?_

He used to remind me of one of my best friends at school.
I remember watching this first episode but never realised it didn't have its famous catchy theme tune back then.
Great to see this rarity. A different theme that would get revamped later on and Bruce would (re)introduce his legendary catchphrase and walk-on.

You bet is the amazing game show the first ever episode is so nostalgia!! Hope we see more in the future
Thank you mister doc tv for uploading you bet

I was pretty much at my first ever festival when I found out he had died.
27:15 Good job Dickie didn't mention the stunt kites in the Kent countryside after mentioning that gaffe.
So his main catchphrase then was You Can Bet On It.

Limehouse Wembley later to become Fountain Studios.
@MatthewHadley-f9z That's them 😀
You Bet! returns to ITV1, and the revival show is presented by Stephen Mullhern and Holly Willoughby.

Have you got any more Bruce Forsyth episodes of You Bet at all Mister Doc ?
@@deltabravo4097 No sorry - haven’t got any more episodes
how many series do u have
I loved this show, but l preferred it with Matthew Kelly.
I think a lot of people did.....
What a legend Bruce was. Unfortunately he was said to be a right prick to work with.
With You Bet! Returns On ITV1, Here's A Chance To Catch A Classic Episodes Of You Bet!, And This Is Right From The Beginning!
It was good and I hope it's made into a series though Bruce was the best presenter imo
Can I ask for those who saw the 2024 Revival of You Bet!, what did you think of it?
