- Play Your Cards Right broadcast on ITV from 1 February 1980 to 22 November 1987, produced by LWT, and hosted by Bruce Forsyth. LWT produced a more modern version from 18 March 1994 to 4 June 1999, initially expected to be presented by Brian Conley, who filmed a pilot show before Forsyth was lured back after he unexpectedly quit The Generation Game.

What a lovely audience. So much better than last week's.
As they filmed multiple episodes in a day the audience that were "so much better then last weeks" was exactly the same as the previous shows !
@@Fcutdlady Pretty much everyone who is a fan of the show knows this.
This joke works on multiple levels.
yes pilot ep
who cares about the audience
I was in the gallery for this on a trainee vision mixer course. The atmosphere was electric and Bruce wanted to know every single possibility of what could go wrong with the game. The guy who created the show in the USA was on hand all the time.
I take it they didn't do any re-takes considering Bruce's mistakes! Was it just too expensive or recorded as live?
@@TheMarkos1982 It seems to me the fluffs were part of the charm, added to the atmosphere and sparkle in the interaction with the audience and contestants, so they left them in. Overzealous editing is what often spoils modern gameshows.
Wow, I was 2 years old at the time of release and it must have been a real buzz being around such people. Hope your well my friend 😊
the great man,loved bruce,lovely tv memories.👍👍😃😃❤❤
The very first PYCR. This became one of THE GREAT English game shows. With the King at the helm, it got slick, exciting, compulsive, catch-phrase heavy, suspensful and funny. Brucie's best work, in my view was on Bruce's Price Is Right - until David Liddiment's arrival, the bastard.
God bless ya' Brucie. You were a bonus
Great theme music in that era.
Brucie was a master of this, so good with contestants and completely natural and comfortable in front of the audience
Love the first mix of the theme with the ambient synth psychedelic sustained chords at 00:42. It was proper 1980.
I remember my dad watching this and comparing it with his brilliant Generation Game years on BBC and saying how quickly people would get board of this in comparison ... Bruce himself was inspirational and loved his stint on HIGNFY 23 years after this was recorded
This is an old episode because I remember when it was only couples playing the game. Love this series our whole family would watch it together every Friday growing up in the 80s. TV Gold 📺
As an American, I didnt become aware of Brucie until I saw the 2nd episode of HIGNFY he did. Knowing me and game shows as a kid, had I grown up in the UK, he would have become my spirit animal.
Bruce Forsyth did try to crack the American market as a game show host and even appeared in an episode of Magnum PI playing himself as the game show host where Rick was one of the contestants.
Was that the Play Your Iraqi Cards Right episode? Absolute genius. . "Please!. . .This is satire!"
@@jivebunny3765 Nope, he did another episode like 7 yrs or so after that one.
Funny how the score machines were on the blink for the studio recording, odd timing that they settled just as the lights went up, and then were switched off, till some points were scored. 'What do points make? Prizes!' Thanks for uploading.
The titles just had to be designed by the late, great Martin Lambie-Nairn RIP 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Bruce, who left BBC in 1978 to come to LWT to show people he was more than just a game show host, had his variety entertainment show bomb in the ratings in autumn 1978, and so he was back full circle come 1980 as a game show host.
Oh wow! You'd never have convinced me this still existed without actually putting it up!
That is because Play Your Cards Right DOES NOT EXIST NO MORE
I saw this and was absolutely convinced that Bob is of Family Fortunes 'Turkey' fame and looking at that episode the fella was called Bob!
Pleased you thought that too! I had to check the Turkey video to make sure!
The FF Bob was much older.
Looks a lot like him. I think he was wearing a wig for this
He even sounds a bit like Turkey Bob! If it sounds like a duck....?
Bruce's very first ever Play Your Cards Right Show on LWT 1980. Pity he hurt his wrist.
This is so great, thanks so very much for uploading.
15 January 1980 was the recording but the actual transmission date was 1 February
Play your cards wrong and make an idiot of yourself. Loved this gameshow. Bruce was the master
TV was made for people like Bruce Forsyth, Leslie Crowther, Terry Wogan.
Yes indeed too.
@BruceDanton-xw6eg Les Dawson too!!!
@cheapy2006 yes why not there too he was great like Ken Dodd too.
And Bob Monkhouse.
👍
Love how Bruce combined some American People like Johnny Carson and Groucho Marx to combine with the game playing, I also guess there were British comics he enjoyed emulating as well.
Even in 1980 he did the nice to see you nice bit
He started that on The Gen Game in the 70s
@@bryemycaz And in the 1960's at the palladium too. it was his stock catchphrase.
Bruce was all over the gaff here - wrong scores - went to BOB twice in a row but made it his own as usual. That mic want even real
Wow, what a microphone.
Nice star prize. Better than a holiday
The audience booed the bloke when he opted to freeze. They didn’t do that normally. You can tell it’s a debut episode
Classic weekend TV.
Ohhhhh (with a hum). Whenever they guessed wrong higher or lower and the audience gasped "Ohhhh" in shock/empathy for the contestant, back when watching this all those years ago I remember hearing a hum at the same time. My guess was that they turned up the volume of the audience voices to convey the emotion. In turning it up, the noise floor was audible, an AC hum. What do you folks think?
You’ve won 50 quid lol those were the days
GOLD!
Good game, good game
Just like elton john, his hear grew more as he got older...
Are you sure. he wore a carpet in his later years and it was distinctive from his normal hair.
Our dolly dealers. Good times. 😂
this is great telly
I wonder how they shuffled the cards ?
I understand now that it's just One vs One of Contestants for a Start.
1:10 - Bruce before he bought the awful piece of leftover carpet as his wig
7:33 What a noise!
Is that the legendary Turkey Family Fortunes Bob?!
Toupee is coming, coming is toupee
I could have done my important of him today at my drama club, last week I ordered a sausage Sandwich for lunch last week, and I got Sausage and Chips, this week I ordered the sandwich and I got it
Brucie will his own hair!
By the mid 80s he was wearing the piece of left over carpet from his sitting room as his wig
@@johnking5174 superglued lol
Didn't they fill in time if they were running under with a question between 2 members of the audience for a tenner?
That rings a bell yes
Bob was a bus driver? Sensible lad! And Carol was a Nurse from Manchester. Sensible lady!
Bruce does make me laugh. For the very first episode though, they sure set the players up to be losers. Giving away a car would have made a great opening episode.
I must say that Cilla looks very different and I wasnt aware of playing cards used on Blind Date.
bob looks like a banker.
Don't get anything for a pair ..not in this game.
Here they are they're so appealing ok dolly's do your dealing .
Those were the days .Best telly then .
Actually Modern Digital TV IS EVEN BETTER ESPECIALLY AS ALL CHANNELS ARE DIGITAL HENCE NO INTERFERENCE AND THERE ARE FAR MORE CHANNELS TO WATCH TOO
Has anyone pointed out the Bruce is wearing a brace on his right wrist?
Given that he spent a minute or so talking about it I think it's a safe bet.
Bring back Brucie we are sick of Alison Hammond
You prune,Bruce is no longer alive
@@stephensnell5707 he is alive in the hearts of everyone who loves light entertainment
Bring him back from the dead you mean? 🙄
@@--Fish yes if necessary we can't take anymore Ant and Dec
Sorry I meant impression
Was Bruce on crack for this episode?
How many things did he get wrong???😂
One word weather with Nelson Mandela
pre wig 1980
Why is he talking in a plastic magic wand?
At 10:50 does Bruce say "effing hell"?
Before the dolly's
