i like how bitdefender said "you are safe" the whole way through the test
Computer: *dying*
Bitdefender: *YOUR PC IS SAFE*
@@juhaeerjayran4246 Computer: dies
Bitdefender: YOUR PC IS INFECTED
@@OscarZheng50 *confused face* how does that work
@@OscarZheng50 oh i get it it says your pc is infected AFTER your pc is ☠️
@@juhaeerjayran4246 yeah bitdefender says your pc is fine when its dying so when its dead, it says its infected so yeah bitdefender kinda laggy, computer's dead by the time bitdefender realizes something is wrong
If you use any paid cloud drives that map as a drive letter (e.g. pCloud), be sure to disable flash drive scanning in this new BitDefender Free version. Otherwise it may choke the Internet connection scanning everything on the Cloud drive after every Windows start-up, particularly if there's several hundred GB of files on the cloud drive. This caught me be by surprise as I'm on a rural LTE based Internet connection.
does the same apply with Kaspersky?
i use pcloud and if so what do i need to disable :)
@@corens1033 I don't recall having this issue with Kaspersky or ESET. For BitDefender, this setting is in Protection (left menu) -> Antivirus (Open) -> Settings tab. Set "Scan flash drives" to Disabled. I no longer have Kaspersky on any PC, so don't recall its settings.
I switched from Kaspersky as it slowed down my network performance. Even a simple iPerf network speed test between two PCs dropped from about 940Mbps to 600Mbps with Kaspersky installed.
Nice. Thx
Thx for the headsup. It keeps asking me need scan of my external drive...its over 1TB...i ignored that request. Great video😄
@@theirisheditor For real? I dont have any problems with speed of my Network.
Great video, Leo look forward to more testing of the bitdefender product range ( Total Security) keep up the good work thanks.
Wow good quality
Great content as always, Please test Trend Micro with an automated script. I am curious to know how it performs when malwares are executed. Its been a while since you uploaded Trend micro test video. Looking forward to that.
Thank you for testing it.
If you are thinking about more content, I would definetly watch firewall tests.
Link?
Good video, looking forward to see the comparison between BitDefender Free (new ver.) VS Kaspersky Free.
It's nice to see we got more free alternatives to Kaspersky. Thanks for the test!
Glad it's back! Thanks for testing it!
I love your videos. So interesting to put these AVs to an actual test
Are you able to use Bitdefender and Microsoft defender together? For example, taking advantage of the firewall that Microsoft offers since the free Bitdefender doesn't have one?
Thanks, I didnt know they relaunched their free version. Thanks
Leo, Thanks for testing detection rate of this antivirus.
I'm curious about the detection rate of Kaspersky Free Antivirus.
Very good detection rate as well with Kaspersky Free, possibly even better with PUPs. It also eliminates hard-to-remove malware.
Sadly it has strong ties to the russian government
@@Punctuate1836 Not really but no way to prove that. They have their primary datacenters in Switzerland for users outside Russia, but it’s main HQ is in Moscow. They have no other choice but to remain neutral. I said it on another video: it’s a lose-lose for them. Maybe time will save them and show they are in the right side of their customers
@@Punctuate1836 American companies aren't really different... And I don't believe that. However their government can easily force them to install a backdoor on people's machines, which of course sucks.
@@Punctuate1836 It doesn't have "ties" with the government. It simply had operations in Russia, but now operates in Switzerland.
And so you know, having ties with Russia or being of Russian ethnicity does not mean you are suddenly evil just because of what some crazy president who has nothing to do with you chose to do.
One more thing, make sure everyday, you go into your browsers and check for updates to both the browser and the extensions. Things can get out of date really quickly.
i love watching your content and are always waiting to watch more of your videos. i always watch your videos over and over again when waiting. this video is amazing and so are all of your other ones
This was an interesting test, how does it compare to Kaspersky free version. I've been working with some Asus routers and they have AiProtection network security powered by Trend Micro "AiProtection Pro - Commercial-Grade Home Network Security". It's hard to verify if these products are doing anything, it would be interested to see these tested for effectiveness.
You forgot to check the text files, pictures and documents whether its infected or not
Amazing job as usual. Everyone is asking you to test stuff… I will ask you for a fresh opinion on open source AV solutions
Would like to see a 2022 Bitdefender Total Security malware test.
The first product that just stopped your "attack" :D Very nice!
does it actually respect the exclusion zone items? or does it do the same thing as kaspersky where it would keep deleting everything i tell it not to delete, even if it's already present in the exclusion list multiple times?
also is the bitdefender account required or just optional?
For that, I think you can do a bit of experiment yourself. Install Bitdefender, check if it deletes anything inside the
exclusion zone. But this experiment only works if Bitdefender detects anything inside the exclusion zone as a threat in the first place.
Can you do a test of Comodo again? I’d love to see their “container” stress tested against threats.
I would love to see Comodo again
@@lilpokey3969 me too
Comodo is still rock solid.
We use COMODO at my org. They are stepping up their game for sure. I've been keeping up with the latest samples including a few APT samples that were using container escape exploits. For sure I would recommend them, although I want to caution that it is definitely not for the faint of heart or those who just want an easy to use AV. It requires a lot of configuration and really getting to know the solution.
@@admrotob yea it’s pretty feature rich but I must say their support in the enterprise/MSP/MSSP has stepped up a lot especially the MDR team.
Thank you for the video. Downloading now.
Im curious for Bitdefender vs F Secure in terms of malware detection and blocking at execution level.
They use the same engine, it can't be that different
F-Secure is now based on Avira engine, so their results are similar - they are good, however Bitdefender is better against sophisticated threats
@@JFTN123 Ah, okay. Thank you!
@@dr_roomba they switched engines.
Is it a good idea to run an AV app on Android devices or are they just a waste of memory space? I have heard opinions on both sides and wanted to get your take on this. Thanks Leo and keep up the good work.
I mean it is an extra layer. They can catch many threats that play protect does not (This can happen alot). I recommend installing ESET or Avast (free version no use for paid) on your phone (I use Avast because more features)
There a tierlist of Free versions of anti virus and firewalls?
Amazing video 😊 I hope you will also test trend micro
Congratulations for this very intresting video. So we could say that bitdefender free antivirus is better than avg, avira or avast free antivirus??
Would love to see some Android anti-virus tests
nice free version test i was waiting for that, lets see if i really have to pay for AV
Thanks for the thorough review!
I would like to see your new tests on antivirus products, too, which you did in your last test video.. Thanks for your great works..
Vay Türk.
What is your opinion on the difference between Bitdefender free version paper and Bitdefender paid version?
Will battery optimization on Bitdefender affect the functioning ability of the app?
Is this a test just for the malware protection or also aganist ransomwares?
today had that update from old black version, what's about performance in games, no difference and still no effect on speed?
It would be interesting to do a new test with Avira Free to compare it with this result of Bitdenfeder Free
"bitdefender can be overly aggresive-"
SHUT! THATS AN ANTIVIRUS I NEED.
Leo, nice video and awesome work :) pls can u test SpyHunter 5?
Could you do a test video on SecureAPlus? I currently use that on my computer an I love it! Also can you tell me where you get your files to test these programs? If there is a way to tag me in the video that be great!
I loved your vid you justify my purchase, but im curious how's McAfee stand in this point of time with how advance malware or virus this day
Now we need kaspersky free vs bitdefender NEW free.
Please. We've been waiting for this for years.
This new version forces me to uninstall malwarebytes, whereas the previous version worked well alongside it
The pervious one mad me uninstall Comodo and Spywareblaster to install.
It’s all good you can just install it afterwards that’s what I did

Omg!! I am so excited to see Bitdefender free, but I will install it on one of my old laptop coz I have been using Windows defender with hardened tweaked settings. It's working superb at the moment!! Thanks leo!!
Hardened tweaks?
@@KYS56 means you can change windows defender settings from registry editor of Windows 10,11. Thanks 🙏
@@g9super Oh ok
Yeah, BD sometimes can be a bit aggressive for my taste. Recently I have seen some apps misbehave.
I've also tested the Full Version for about a Week or 2 on a system that ran Kaspersky before.
This means my System is NOT a clean Windows installation, it's FULL usable and many Applications and Games are installed.
Compared to Kaspersky, Bitdefender is sadly VERY heavy on performance and increased load times of most Games i play (eg. Elden Ring, Warframe) noticeable!
Also after a while, means after Bitdefender should "know" my Applications, the Loading Times are still delayed...
Many of my OWM coded Delphi and C# Projects are "detected"... and false positive of course!
My next Complain is the UI and the missing "Advanced" Settings!
It is full of "definitely not needed" Recommendations and there is NO WAY to Disable it... in a FULL VERSION?!
Also there is no Way to Import/Export Settings or even a Part of it, like Firewall or Excluded Files/Folders...
Maybe the Detection is "good" but overall... IMHO it's not!
Your first mistake was switching away from Kaspersky.
@@steiner554 No!
It's definitely not an "empty" argument :P
As bad as it is, the ONLY way to remove a psychopathic and mass murdering leader is, there OWN People have to remove him!
The only way to do this is to make all the People (particularly Big Companies) uncomfortable as much as possible!
And the only way to do this is, do NOT give them anything until it's done.
@@mumukshud.c.1866 Yeah but...
As bad as it is for Kaspersky and all the innocent Russian Civilians, the actual situation REQUIRED that move :/
when you know that apps what you have are clean, the folder which contain the games just add to exclusion, also the game itself .exe files.
I dont know do there is an option like "Game Mode" to be activated?
@An orange yeah, im on a 8700k
Hii bro which one antivirus you suggest for windows server ?
Norton or bitdefender. Kaspersky is the best in detection but it is also the best in getting yourself hacked by russian hackers.
Yeah, more testing please.
Could you please tell me where I can get that wallpaper its looks so cool ^^
I just updated from windows 7 to windows 10 and installed avast one and would like to see a test. Thanks.
Thanks for this! I would like to see more fo this :)
Could you do the same with Kaspersky? Thanks a lot! 💪🏻❤️
Recently I read at forums that it deleting the "dolby atmos" driver. I used Bitdefender on my new pc since build it and my 5.1 speakers (they're not broken 100%) are only able to play 3.1 sound, I had no idea why. So it seems to be true.
bitdefender really needs a lot of babysitting. it can even block savefiles of some games. having to whitelist specific files all the time is indeed quite annoying, but seeing the reason for it (as shown here - killing the whole process in powershell) at least gives me a good feeling that my pc is protected even if i do something stupid. and that's why a good AV is so important.
Get Kaspersky
@@mumukshud.c.1866 i had kaspersky and switched over to bitdefender due to the war (and dont even start tthe crap about how its safe to use even during the war blablabla - i decided it for my household and im living with it).
@@Daxter250 lmao.
@@Daxter250 the romanian govt. gon spy on your computer through Bitdefender🤣

Does Bitdefender still go through the credential manager? If so I'd stay clear of it.
Hey Leo could you test avira again you haven't tested it since a long time
great vid
can you test thor security products ???
I have been using it for a few weeks now on the latest Windows 10 (version 21H2). However I notice at random the mouse click stops responding for 5-8 seconds. It happens a couple of times or so a day. It's annoying. Anyone else has this problem?
Am I better off using Bitdefender free or Windows Defender with configure defender security settings set to high together with a second opinion scanner like malware bytes?
I've been using Bitdefender for years, just yesterday though I was trying to install the download manager JDownloader and it wouldn't let me install it, Bitdefender kept deleting the install file.
Jdownloader is a virus and it will download webcomparison just use free download manager
@@bonzybuddy6859 I actually was using free download manager but I was having a problem with it not catching downloads from Firefox I installed j downloader and then like 2 Days later uninstalled it and reinstalled free download manager and it works fine now
when I had Avast on my computer, I couldn't install JDownloader either.
great video. thanks.
do you have the malx script available someplace to grab?
Thank u for this ❤❤
Plz make a video about Comodo. I really don't know if it's a good AV.
Good video my friend thanks a lot
would you do a av test with Vipre?
I'm getting the message "your subscription has expired" and it won't let me go to any other tabs. Is there a way to downgrade to the free version?
Bro your wallpaper is amazing. Do you mind sharing pls?
Requesting to test Trend Micro Maximum Security please.
Is there malware that can get past the windows Controlled Folder Access?
Great Video
When you gonna do Avast? 🧐
Thanks👍!
Is there a setting in any antivirus program where you give a list of allowed programs to the antivirus program, and it blocks the execution of every other program that's not on your list? Wouldn't this give complete protection against all malware, since malware must be executed in order to run, and no malware could change any settings (including your antivirus settings) without first being executed? Thank you for your videos.
this would be a real pain since windows contains thousands of programs. Some of them changes with each updates.
The way modern computers manage this is that software companies "stamps" their programs as legitimate with their own certificate.
When executed, the computer can read the certificate and certify that the program has not been tampered with sicne it's creation by the company.
on the other hand, for smaller companies or individuals making programs that have no certificates, it triggers a warning on windows (smartscreen, etc)
@@JacksonJoseph-Eugene
Thanks for the response. So this would work for home users, but not for an enterprise? Except if they would make their own certificates.
@@alittax no, i was only refering to the companies that makes software. not the users. Only the people who make software needs to stamp them with a certificate.
A software properly stamped by a certificate coming from a company with a good reputation would be whitelisted by all antiviruses, browsers, and Operating Systems. but without a stamp, it's much more difficult to distribute a software because some antivirus, browsers, or OS would detect them as suspicious.
Kaspersky has a new free version of their AV .. It would be very interesting to see how it fairs against your tests, if you have the time to test it of course ... thnx for the great content
I think Kaspersky should be kicked off from our PC's, Germany already make an very important warning about Kaspersky, also USA banned Kaspersky. We need to learn "something" from those events, before is too late.
Kaspersky should be banned! Don't forget - it is soviet app!
@@thepreserver83 All AV companies have "ties to the government", so far there is no proof about anything shady that Kaspersky have done. Their Datacenter is in Switzerland (they get audited regularly) and yes they have their office in Russia.
It was similar (but not the same) situation with Huawei few years ago with ban from USA, still no proof about anything so we should just trust them?
Don't forget that all big US companies like Meta (FB, Insta), Google are also working with NSA etc etc
@An orange ...strange, maybe explorer was injected by malware, or replaced by malware... First, you need to find WHY explorer was blocked, not just uninstall the antivirus. That can be bad idea. Always there is an option to add to whitelist some applications which you want, on every antivirus program, but there is HUGE risk if the application added to whitelist actually is malware, or contain one, or even can trigger an malware from different places or web.
Sometimes, peoples say "disable antivirus and install the crack" but the crack may contain malware, and when antivirus is disabled, then the malware freely can destroy your os or personal documents. That is the easiest way how hackers manipulate victims.
There are a lot antivirus companys which share data with governments, but better (on my opinion) my data to be shared with "peaceful' government, than to be shared with RU gov.
Some times peoples have sensitive documents in pc, but such peoples know for sure what they are doing. They know how to hide ownself. For sure, every government know for own peoples which website you visit, where you are located, what you like or dislike... But what they are doing with such information?! Preventing crime.
Criminals for sure does not use windows OS, or antivirus, or android OS.
If someone does not have what to hide then...relax. For ordinary peoples, windows defender is enough. There is another way to harden windows defender together with other windows apps build in OS, even on that degree that no antivirus can be compared with windows security.
On the past i have used Comodo with windows 7 just because of virtualization of apps, then i switched to Kaspersky Total with windows 10, but last time i think to switch to another one ( i don't recommend anything to you because im not expert on IT security) but i think Bitdefender is good enough (for me).
Someone can say that Kaspersky last time relocated to Switzerland, but that does not mean that data collected from my pc are not shared with ru gov through Kaspersky.
Some companys may say that "we collect only anonymous data" but that is not true while they ask for login, or the bank card name holder to buy the product, with which you buy the app or services. When they have our name, our bank number then is easy to combine bank data with collected personal data, they they know everything what we do.
Eugen Kaspersky said "come, we will show you the code of our programs". But again, Germany warned not to use Kaspersky anymore. Germany already has not seen the code of Kaspersky but used to warn us without any fact, just like that??? Sure they know something. Then what we are waiting for?! Or we are waiting another order by RU gov to give to Kaspersky and destroy every document in peoples PC?! Just how they said "we will not invade Ukraine" but they done that. Who will believe RU gov anymore or companys connected to RU gov?!
Even if Kaspersky say that data are not shared, but you can read Terms and Conditions of Kaspersky and you can see that Kaspersky do share data with others. Who can trust RU gov anymore, or RU security company like Kaspersky on this case?! NO. Kick off.
@@thepreserver83 It's very interesting that you are ok with an AV sharing your private data with ANY government and the fact that you consider the country that started 2 World wars "peaceful"... Both US and Germany don't want us to use Kaspersky because they don't have control over it.
I just want what is best for my system and that is Kaspersky, hands down!! Everything else is politics and power plays that I don't have any interest in.
When there will be a better AV for my PC I'll consider switching to it and not over some not proven allegations that it's sharing information with FSB
Unfortunately old methods like virus detecting by signatures and looking for malicious files not effective anymore and my computer easily hacked by softwares and other online methods that was undetectable by any kind of antivirus. Extremely hard to detect and determine this kind of attacks. Apps in Google play by some companies and countries are not safe to use and some softwares for any operating system.
You should do a video on McAfee's Stinger!
how did u stop it killing the whole task train i want it not block a dll injector for a game but rn bitdefender kills both the game and injector after it’s injected
Can you do the same with Kaspersky Free?
Where do you get music from
which antivirus you use? 😅 can you recommended a free one ! I use AVG now
YO THANK YOU SO MUCH
Isn't the _old original FREE_ Bitdefender version is still available?
One annoying thing is that i was using comodo firewall and when i was setting it up it wanted to remove comodo because it is another protection program
Why only 72 sample while you use over 300 in malwarebytes test?
Kaspersky free?
Can you test the Avast One in malware and ransomware?
Is this better than AVG free version?
You are best ;) Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very happy that my antivirus can protect me in my normal day-day use
Does the installation require an uninstall previous to attempting the new install or does BD do the uninstall of the previous free version prior to making the new install? TIA
BTW -- Here is a result of the Q/A which really does not provide the answer to the question asked which is why I chose to ask.
"How do I switch from the previous free product to the new Bitdefender Antivirus Free for Windows?
Can't copy the answer so will type it -- basically saying Download>Install. Don't worry "we will guide you".
With guidance like that I am glad I have followed Leo for many many years.
I could do a two step process but prefer to know what is best and wish that BD had actually provided an answer to the question.
No, it will uninstall the older Bitdefender and install this version. If you're using the old version, I'd probably wait awhile, you've got until the end of June. I found system scans were slower than with the older version. Also, unless you disable scanning of flash drives it rescans them after every reboot, even if it had scanned the same flash drive and contents before.
@@englandcalling9721 Thanks very much. I did not remember when the old one expired and as you say -- waiting is good and maybe Leo will do another test before then. Good that they do the uninstall as then either it is total clean (I use Geek Uninstaller) hopefully or uses some components as needed if they can or wish to do so. I might run a scan with both BD and MBAM before making the change to check that all is clean and then re-run after install just to see if anything is picked up at that point and see how MBAM deals with the new install. Should not be any issues but no harm. Might also run C Cleaner before and after and do one or more reboots. Just like to be sure things are in good shape as in 25 years never a BSOD nor any virus/malware issues and want to keep it that way. Thanks again for your info.
@@phlotographer I'd agree using an uninstaller (I use Wise) then installing afterwards. Unless you need to keep them, it's worth deleting all System Restore points after installing Bitdefender. Bitdefender never works if you try to reinstall it via system restore, so better just to clear them out and start afresh.
@@englandcalling9721 Between the two of our conversations, I am thinking the procedure to follow is 1. Run C Cleaner 2. Use Geek to uninstall the current BD in late June 2. 3. Install the new BD 4.Reboot the system 5. Run C cleaner once more 6. Create a new restore point and I can name it Post install of BD and its file name
7. Reboot once more 8. Run Scans with both BD and MBAM 9. Be Happy! Then keep an eye out for concerns related to W11 and hopefully wait till 2023 when product will become more available and prices move back to normal and get a totally new system built that if I do it right likely could be my last in my expected lifetime but one never knows for sure. Thanks for the info.
Ok so I actually also have problelms with this. It is overblocking things like for example I get kicked from servers in some games or updates for them fail to install because they are beeing blocked. It doesn't work to whitelist them either or even to turn off ALL the defending features in Bit Defender. Only deinstalling works.
Some websites don't load in Firefox when using Bitdefender. Why?
Leo what you think about Emsisoft/? if compared to bitdefender free which one do you think is better in terms of subscriptions does what Emsisoft pays for Bitdefender entitle to more subscriptions than its free one?
Great video bit defender was a good anti-virus but one question when i installed the latest update of bit defender my windows protection says "Bit defender antivirus is out of date" and when ever I click "update now" it doesn't work
edit: ok now the windows protection has a exclamation mark on it but when i click on it everything was green.
after installation, you need to restart the pc before updating the app.
when an antivirus is installed, one can not put own roots deep into system, for that is needed to restart the pc to make changes.
can u pls test current Windows defender as it is possibly the lightest antivirus available
Windows Defender literally doesn't have any protection locally, if you're not constantly connected to MS's servers it's immediately susceptible
In my experience windows defender are not the lightest in terms of RAM, I have been using Kaspersky and the RAM usage are usually less than 100 MB while windows defender are usually always higher than 100 MB.
@Od1sseas Use Kaspersky only if you feel comfortable with the possibility of them being susceptible to the Russian Government at any point in time. (It's in their terms)
