I am here to tell everyone that Katie’s advice is 1,000% work! I have got from 1k to 15k subs in just about a year, applying her advice about vlogging style and creating meaningful relationships with viewers. I never like to create a tutorial video and Katie’s guide to create a semi-vlog style makes my RUclips journey so much more fun which is why I started from the beginning. Katie gave me so much comfort about 6 months ago when I was figuring out my style. My channel doesn’t grow super fast but the growth is so steady because viewers keep coming back. Whatever I post never flop. Every video I get a little more view and start seeing the result. Thank you so much Katie. I truly appreciate what you are doing. Sending love from here 😘🥰
Yes, I discovered YESTERDAY that you can edit over a series of days. That way it’s lovely to grab an hour and do a bit of editing. A long video doesn’t have to be a chore to edit ❤
@@roisincure mon plan the edit / tue 1st edit. Wed broll + visual effects edit / thurs second edit / Fri music edit + sound effects edit / Saturday final edit / Sunday upload + finalise….. voila 2-3hrs a day on each you’ve got yourself a fully edited video with a brain still intact haha
Am I the only one who finds the diligence, organization and discipline both extremely comforting...and yet completely unrelatable to my own artistic/creative, but unhealthy and chaotic existence?
Not the only one. My autism loves organization and discipline. Routine is comforting to me. But my ADHD-side laughs at that. I think this dichotomy is more common than people realize
“Perfectionism has never been my problem”. Bored before done is my biggest thing! Working to get from 3k to 10k subscribers this year so I need to stay consistent!
The timing of the geese walking by while you were talking about things that don’t have anything to do with the video is hilariously perfect. Kudos to you for spotting an interesting opportunity rather than pausing your filming
this style of video is so insanely cool. it's like.. it has your old video style inside of it but you've really opened up the reality of what your day looks like for us
I love how calmly you approach getting back on the homepage - like, you’re confident and aware that it’s just a matter of strategy and adaptation rather than some mark of your personal failure. That’s definitely the right way to look at it. I think a lot of us get caught up there.
Katie, this is right on time! I just got monetized on my faceless channel and I am about to launch a new vlog type channel next week showing my 68 year old face! ☺️ About to begin editing now! I love your way of planning the week and making life fit around YT instead of the other way around. You are such an inspiration!
I never thought of clipping my wireless mic inside my shirt to hide it!! That is a great tip I’m going to test it with my mic to see if the audio is still clear doing it this way ✨
RUclips is a ever-learning process if I've learned anything over the last few years. Sitting at 27.6k in the automotive niche. I've covered my current car as thoroughly as I feel I could, looking for a new strategy... do I get a different car? Do I do commentary on the side and review other cars? So many decisions, but clarity comes through experimentation. Great video Katie. Looking forward to the next :)
This was so helpful and fun to watch! P.s. I also love how you labeled your days in Spanish in Notion since you're learning Spanish 😍 Such a great idea!
I'm in the process of leaving my current channel behind (or pivoting, but that's a bad idea for many reasons) and moving into something more creator focused. I've been completely paralyzed for weeks now. I've made a certain kind of videos in a certain way for a long time and even though I know what I need to do, I just can't get it moving. Sigh. Thanks for the video. You positivitity is bouying.
It's Hard. I have two channels and no income from it. This one is my cleaning channel and seeds of faith is 8 years of my 20s and now my 30s. So, start a new channel, do what you like, be happy.
I’m in a similar situation but your channel looks like it’s doing well! True, pivoting generally doesn’t work out well. But you could risk a slight turn and at the same time start a new one. Find others that are doing something similar to what you want to do and spend time watching them. Your previous experience will contribute greatly to your new channel.
Katie you are precious! As a 56 year old with an addiction to entertaining and sharing our quirky family with others, I’ve decided to create a RUclips channel. 😍. I discovered you yesterday and I’m absolutely enchanted! 🤩 Your thoughts on personality, a balance of format and novelty, the “mobile” perspective to add in for fun,… my exact plan. Synchronicity at work. Cheers to you and your new approach. I have confidence you will excel and find that intrinsic value you are searching for. Cheers!🥂
Love you Katie, thank you so much for unpacking and explaining your thought process on this. I find your advice, delivery and general video flow so inspiring and energising for my own video creation xx
I've just uploaded my first video last sunday following one of your strategies and i feel so supported with your insight, thank you for your content and transparency 💖
I found your videos yesterday. I am so enjoying your personality - you are very encouraging. I definitely feel engaged. It’s like we are having a conversation. FYI. I just let one of your videos roll over to the next, and I’m still watching! 😊. Have a great day!
Thanks for sharing all of this! As a fan of your van life I’m going to enjoy seeing this shift of more of your personality on this channel, you’re a lovely human! That bonus tip of DJI mic into the bra, so clever & thanks!
Yes! This is what I did my second year on accident....lost my personality. I'm working on allowing that back in, because my views tanked. Still grinding and trying to figure it all out.
Thanks Katie for validating the importance of injecting your personality into the longer form videos and not being pulled away from the insta-satisfaction of Reels. For me engagement and community is what I'm seeking in my created videos so I am slowly moving from voiceovers and pictures of me to videos of me for the intro. Still very uncomfortable for me, but I'll get there. :)
This was really inspiring and helpful! I started my youtube journey last year and have started taking it seriously within the last 3 months with lots of your tips! It was encouraging to see that a lot of the things I was already doing with my content strat, you suggested here. Makes me feel like I'm on the right track! but as usual tons of helpful info and tips here, Katie!
This video came at the perfect time. I've been feeling so stale in my work lately, and have been struggling to find myself within my videos! (The 'editing out' your personality bit was spot on!)♥ Thank-you so much for this gentle reminder! :) Here is to revamping, and seeing that growth!
I totally appreciate this video - I have felt the same of the time and effort I put into Instagram vs RUclips and the pay off of each. I love your perspective and style.
It’s hard because often it feels like you want to return to what’s worked in the past, but it can be a good opportunity to do something totally new and fresh!
I’m getting started on Yt and I need that Dashboard lol. It just seems like it takes so much time but being organized like that, getting into a workflow and streaming a process would probably help. This is what I’ll be working on. Thanks for sharing this.
Just started my channel, and I needed this! I have to plan out my videos, and I split editing between two days. It's really helped me not get overwhelmed by everything, and also allows me to look at a video with fresh eyes the next day.
I can't exactly put my finger on it, but listening to you plan out your work flow promotes so much productivity. It helps calm me down and help me focus on my own work too! Lately life has been busy "off-screen" and I feel like I'm behind on all creator tasks. Thanks for sharing your process :)
Your my favorite growth channel as a small RUclipsr who wants to make this a career ✨you give more down to earth advice than most these channels that feel like it’s just all buisness all about the best money making skills . You give more personal takes and that’s what makes you stand out .
I watched this video a few days ago and got so much out of it. I love your approach and videos. You've got such a chill vibe that is refreshing. I'm inspired to put more me into my content. Something I'm working on. It is a challenge to balance keeping the video moving while sprinkling in those moments. As AI generated videos proliferate, I think this genuine human connection is going to be even more appealing to viewers. Thank you for all your awesome videos, Katie!
I love watching your videos! I used to edit my videos to seconds even I a breathed wrong 😅. I’ve taken a different mindset and worked on talking so there’s less editing and honestly it makes me love recording!
Great video! I’ve been dabbling with brainstorming (lol) my future RUclips channel based around my small handmade business but I’m so overwhelmed and don’t even know what video to make first. In the meantime, I’m really enjoying learning from you!
Katie, probably for about three or four months I came across your videos. I especially liked today's video. I like this approach it is very engaging and authentic. I started a channel this past August and it's slow going with viewers. I am going to implement some of your strategies. Thanks for sharing.
LOVE THIS! I liken it to “white space” in the print media world. So underestimated and undervalued. I’m here for the refresh. Hope it feeds your creator soul.🌟
I just recently started my RUclips channel at 33 after years of debating whether I should or not.. it’s finally happened.. I’m loving the process of planning and filming and editing so far but I won’t lie.. it does take up quite a bit of my time every week.. I think I can understand why many creators might fall prey to the routine of just churning out the same type of videos again and again.. I really hope I can find the time to work on improving the quality of my videos over time instead of settling for monotony..
I love how you opened this up. I 'm going to try it. I related to you making your oatmeal and makeup. I'd love to know what you use. I remember when you used to wear bright red lipstick. Need I tell you I'm a beauty infuencer at 83? So this was fun and inspiring. I'm also going to look into storybook.☀️🌞
I love love love your channel and content. This video has kept me watching longer than normal, I think because you changing locations just keeps things interesting. I'm struggling to do this as I have one small filming space and the rest of the house has noisy children in it, but maybe going outside like you did could work. Keep up the good work!
I have just finished moving internationally and have been looking for the inspiration to keep going with my content - I really appreciate your videos, they make content creation seem so much more accessible and enjoyable 🖤
I definitely have loved watching your content, cos it really does feel like we're just hanging out in your lounge. :) It makes you feel way more approachable. I'm hoping that as I get more confident with my video's, I can start to loosen the reins a little too - at the moment I'm in the "just get into some kind of rhythm" stage - but I'm looking forward to the "you can relax now and start being more creative" stage. :)
I really liked this video! I think this strategy and this format is totally the right way to go. I found the video really delightful to watch all the way to the end and it didn’t feel stressed or to information packed. It felt very personal and inspiring and I love it. It’s my favorite type of videos.
I agree! @katie please see if you can share a workflow on organising the materials for the videos. I can easily imagine that it can turn into chaos to manage bits of video, bits of audio, b-roll, Stock images, music...😮 HOW do you keep your archiving/saving workflow to prevent chaos? Thanks in advance for considering this
I enjoy this video so much. I struggle with finding a good routine for creating my own videos, so I am not consistant but I am working on it. How do you do the shot of the two yous? I am still working to get better at editing.
Katie - it's funny. Even though my channel is by far a lot smaller than yours - I have very similar goals in mind for the second half of this year! It's been tough because I have my 10 month old at home with me... so the thought of making higher quality content is daunting. I have LESS time... not MORE! but I've been brainstorming ways to enhance the quality of my work without necessarily putting in countless hours. A lot of it has to do with talking about topics I already feel comfortable with... just need a little dabble of research here and there. AND making sure I'm doing more of an outline than a script, so I can keep my authentic voice. Your videos have been such an inspiration to me to keep going on youtube. It truly means a lot! Thanks for everything you post and share. So excited to see what you upload next!
As a creator, this was an amazing video. I take editing really seriously, and it was great to get some ideas of how maybe to freshen things up in my videos! Subbed and looking forward to checking out more of your content :)
I love this video. great informative content. love the process focus and the three mindset changes. I've been on a video hiatus for a few weeks and this helps move the needs a little.
hey Katie, you mentioned going viral on Instagram, could you make a video or a short form video explaining why do you think you went viral and was this content somehow different or do you think it was just timing and how long did it take for you before you went viral and whether consistently posting 2-3 times a week in your opinion was key?
I think this strategy will work very well. Even watching this video, I can see the effort you put in making those extra shots interesting, using good music…some @lifeofriza elements, which I’m trying to do in my vlogs. I think it will make a world of difference in capturing and retaining attention. Good luck Katie! ❤

Glad to hear I’m not the only one with views on the decline 😂 Q2 has been a struggle lol
☀️ another great video, Katie :)
hey Katie, you mentioned going viral on Instagram, could you make a video or a short form video explaining why do you think you went viral and was this content somehow different or do you think it was just timing and how long did it take for you before you went viral and whether consistently posting 2-3 times a week in your opinion was key?
You're Canadian! Yay! 🇨🇦 Love me some PC frozen broccoli! haha
I keep hearing amazing things about the dji lav mic set. Expound if you like. 😂
Would love to hear how your Spanish journey is progressing post Mexico!
I think this strategy will work very well. Even watching this video, I can see the effort you put in making those extra shots interesting, using good music…some @lifeofriza elements, which I’m trying to do in my vlogs. I think it will make a world of difference in capturing and retaining attention. Good luck Katie! ❤
Love this new format from you! ❤
Thank you!!
I like when you do these informative videos in more of a vlog style so yeah good strategy in my opinion!
