Classic pixies
Get a deck of cards, shuffle, flip it, shuffle again, play 5 games of high card, throw 7 cards away, get a new deck, shuffle, pick a card at random, sacrifice a memory to time, pick a new card, and you still have no idea.
I find this song (Caribou) haunting. I saw Black Francis (at the time) getting out of his big white Town Car before a show and told him this was my favorite song (that week), he said they hadn't played it on tour yet and he played it that night and dedicated it to me. Coolest thing that ever happened to me.
Sweet
I love that im jealous
Haha
Sure Jan....
you must be one of the most fortunate person alive
Pixies is one of those bands that makes me not give a shit about the other bands....
joe smith Radiohead and Pixies
+cristo quintana you know it man, those two bands rule alt music and will never die, although pixies took their fucking time
+joe smith Their one of those bands if you don't get em you probably never will. And if you do nothing else compares. Bands today could learn thing or two from these guys.
+joe smith I wish I had friends who only wanted to listen to the pixies with me lol :'(
Goblin Big Boss Red Pants
David Bowie was there. He wanted to see if they could recreate the sounds of their album live. They didn't disappoint. Epic.
really? he was in that show? wow, great data
Any proofs?
I don't know how to link it, but the documentary included with their greatest hits DVD has this live show and clips of Bowie and others like Vlur talking about how this show influenced them
I mean Blur, but mobile RUclips without the app...isn't great. I can't even edit
mutinyontheark I was like, Vlur? Hmm let me RUclips that, sounds interesting. Blurs good too lol. The Bowie tip is however and appreciated. I bet he was impressed. Which is hard to do I would think.
Doolittle hadn’t been released and nobody had heard Hey yet, so when Charles said ‘hey’, some people in the audience said hey back :)
Imagine hearing Hey for the first time at that show :0
The response to Black Francis saying "Hey!" started as (planned?) coincidence and became a tradition.
youre telling me....there were people who listened to this song for the first time....LIVE??? i cant imagine how i wouldve reacted. probably in tears
Just imagine being there and hearing this
@@supremelordoftheuniverse5449 i was there! and a recording of this song was given away on a vinyl EP free with the NME a while later - I always liked this version better than the album! Great song!
Pixies is one of those bands whose music made other bands...
"Your favorite band's favorite band"
They were the Biggest influence with the Melvins to Curt Cobain for sure .....
Eric Lamar that's the gods honest truth. never let anyone say perfection is unattainable, these guys have been doing it for over three decades
not just the loud quiet thing that so many 90s bands done. But my stamp of approval too x
Velvet Underground formed because of The Pixies
One of the best live bands I ever saw, they were amazing.Anyine who doesn't get The Pixies doesn't get music. They were amazing :-)
In my extensive viewing of Pixies videos, this must have been one of the best shows they ever did?
I'd have to agree. Caribou was glorious
May 1 1988 - I was there!!! It was incredible.
The town n country is famed for it's live sound, which is why a lot of bands record live albums there. I've no idea why that is but it definitely is
Town n Country was a great venue - worked in Kentish Town and 10 minute walk to Hampstead Heath for lunch - nice!
There's music. Then there's crazy genius music. The latter we're still listening to 30+ years later.
YEAH (at 50, have been a while, but I'm DIGGING IT now again!)
A mark of a band is how they sound live. The Pixies are one of the few bands that sound BETTER live then on their albums! AMAZING!!!!
Dave Lovering is awesome.
MattMonk hes a magician
he's certainly a very busy drummer
Stone cold bass goddess.
i just can't get over how amazing they are. Never heard anything like it
they were as good as it gets - and more than predicted . I saw them in 89 /90/93 and it was unbelievable . one of the most impressive bands live ...ever !
Johannes Andersen leaders. Pioneers. Your favorite bands favorite band.
@@EGoltz Except my favorite band does happen to be pixies :D
RE-PENT! RE-PENT!
Never fails to make me smile :)
Snot Nose The Goblin Anything that involves Charles Thompson screaming is far better live! There's a live version of River Euphrates on RUclips that's just awesome and rips your face off :D
scaredypicker in the 90s i thought it was "Red Pants!"
RED PEN!!!
Fun Fact: "Repent" in Christianity does mean "Change Your Thinking" but I think there's more to it.
Wait What !!!, thought it was RED PANTS???? (joke)
I don t know the story of alternative rock but I am sure the pixies has a big place in it. HEY is a masterpiece
I heard someone refer to Kim as "A stone cold bass godess". I think that's too perfect.
There is a Pixies reunion tour movie called "Loud Quiet Loud" It involves their concert in Reykjavik. Teenaged Icelandic girls seem to luvve Kim Deal.
I love Kim Deal
Caribou"
I live cement
I hate this street
Give dirt to me
I bite lament
This human form
Where I was born
I now repent

And foregone

The most perfect rock band ever.
This is the best recording of Caribou, in my opinion. I really like it.
Yeah! The drums kicks ass!
@@krzysiekjaworski1147yes
This is something that we will listen in 30 years from now and say holy shit! that was history.
iguisard no they will say 'is this from the future?' just like we do now.
We listen to it now and say it's history.
I already am doing, 36 years later thanks
This is amazing. It shows how much the instruments and voices matter. Talent. They straight shredded it! Love this thank you for posting.
tell me you don't hear them in radiohead's debut album
I sure do. Radiohead's Thom Yorke has said that, while at school, "the Pixies had changed my life".
Same with nirvana
+alphermail wonder if a young thom yorke is in the crowd at this show? maybe even the whole band was in attendance they would have been what? 20 something?
Maybe not this gig but on this tour they did
fukk radio Knobhead !
Lo que transimiten estos tipos es... es indescriptible
This exact version of Caribou was the first song I heard by The Pixies, and the reason I'm obsessed with them still
scaredypicker fight club then caribou for me
I could shed a tear with immense glory!
The Pixies. The one and only. Is there a better live show of theirs than this one? They’re so good live it’s possible.
Live at Brixton 1991 is massive.
Also, I saw them at horseshoe in Toronto in 2015... a bar with capacity of a few hundred. It felt like watching this clip!!
Brixton 1991, chech their "Tame" song , i think is one of the best songs played on live concert : ruclips.net/video/4i6jtsCpImo/видео.htmlsi=GCMiPa1V6BeKtIya
Brixton 1991 check out their "Tame" song , one of the best songs played live in my opinion: ruclips.net/video/4i6jtsCpImo/видео.htmlsi=GCMiPa1V6BeKtIya
But then again there are plenty of shows that we never going to watch couse recording shows was not a common thing to do back in the 90's , expecially at the beggining of the decade.
The only band I paid an outrageous amount to see , and would do it again
Barb Rogers, same. I just saw them play with Weezer last night in Portland, used up all of my savings to get as close to the stage as possible for The Pixies, then left after they were done and didn’t stay for more than 2/3 Weezer songs
Zachariah Whiton pixies are 100x better than weezer
Zachariah Whiton but I still like weezer
I’d sell my soul to see Deal play with Pixies one more time
So many great songs by The Pixies, but "Caribou" is my personal top-fav track of theirs -- love singing along with Frank on the "caribooooo " chorus!
Territorial pissings by nirvana could have been lifted directly from ‘something against you here’?. Similar structure before the ‘loud quiet loud’ thing credited to nirvana but actually was a Pixies creation
this is a concert i REALLY wish i would have been to. too bad i wasnt born yet. just imagine hearing Hey for the first time ever like this... i would have been so hyped for their next album, which would come out the next year. Doolittle that is. wow great concert really.
We're Chaii--iined .. CHAINED
We're Chaii-iined .. CHAINED
We're Chaii-iined .. CHAINED
OUUURRRRRR ...........
SAID THE MAN TO THE LADY
REEEE--PEEENT
Just wanted to say that the mix on this is excellent. So many live videos are missing that.
So unique...
I remember I saw them quasi-live on the documentary channel many years ago and I was peaked out on acid. I fell in love with them ever since, heh. It'll never waver.
Just enjoy the flashbacks when they come….I do. They’re real too. Wait till your over 50. Lol.
@@mumbles215
I've no reason to believe that's a fundamentally necessary thing that happens to all people who take acid (or any psychedelic for that matter). I don't plan on seeing 50 anyway, heh, but if I'm unlucky enough to see that age, I'll take them like a champ.
Farewell.
Hm, I hear bits of Husker Du's "Find Me" in Caribou, now that I think of it.
Frank said himself it was supposed to sound like husker du
god i love caribou. something about the melody. so beautiful. and his scream of repent. so haunting.
Saw them in San Diego in '90 Halloween night. Pere Ubu opened for them. Absolutely incredible.

I.Love this song and always start with it when I'm busking in the streets ...it lets people know I'm gonna play divisive shit!
Best buzz is when an indie kid comes up and.is all 'is that..?'
REPENT!!!!!
Oh, fug me. I give up. Just realized I was in London that night (although, maybe I wasn't.) In any event, I "studied" (i.e., did not study) there from Jan.-Mar. '87, but was adamantly closeted, both emotionally and sexually, and thus determined to avoid anything out-of-the-ordinary that might otherwise cause me to re-evaluate my life. As a result, I saw The Pogues at the same venue (which seemed safe enuf) but avoided this show as well as the Butthole Surfers @ U. of London at that same time.
It's so awesome seeing Hey performed before the release of Doolittle... these people had NO reaction to it.
Caribou is definitely the mad danse macabre! Charming waltz from... I really don't know from where.
A couple waltzing to this in a Lynch film would be incredible
they didn't look a band and that's what makes them perfect
Frank black... I would definitely
I bought my first pixies cd on a whim. My cousin was in town. He, my brother, and I went to tower records in fresno. The plan was to each buy a new cd to listen to while we played D&D that night and drink jolt cola. I walked past the pixies cd with the taxidermy monkey on the cover, and I immediately froze. I felt something. I just new there was something good in there. I showed my cousin the cd I was going to buy. He asked if I'd ever heard them. I said no. He thought it was dumb to buy a cd of a band I've never heard of. But I did it anyways. I don't remember what he or my brother bought. Cause we never got a chance to listen to them. We played that pixies cd over and over all night long on repeat. Ever song was a hit, and we all were big fans from then on.
Good Thing Doolittle was out on 4AD.Hope youve Dove bk in to all their ESSENTIAL bk catalogue myself was turned on to Come on pilgrim/Surfa Rosa.+Dolittle By a good mate whom wanted to sleep w)-Girlfreind.They did Sm Lsd.i was no Way..but il look after you"s.which i did.Bringing cups o'Tea.cigs..were allgoodi now a days PIXIES Cuts thru all.in my esteemed opinion.lol.n.z.TROMPE LA MONDE.+OTHERS Kinda dont seem to get the results the 1',st three lp'$ do.😮😊
That’s awesome and one of those things I miss about just browsing record stores and rolling the dice on something. You hit the jackpot.

This fuckers voice is haunting, painful, and absolutely beautiful all at the same time!
best recording of caribou, best recording of something against you, best recording of hey. heck, i feel like this show had the best recording of each of the songs they played
If you go I will surely die
There will never be another band like the pixies they paved the way for great bands! 🤘
chaiiiiined!!
who unliked this? come back and like it man?
Francis Black........... next to Billy Corgan of The Pumpkins........the best
For folk who are as mad about these dudes as I am. you should maybe give Big Black and Violent Femmes a bit more of the listen if ya haven't.
Not the same (nothing is like Pixies, for sure), but also pretty fucking decent, and also have lyrical awesomeness. :3
Just in case, like me, you have a bad habit of listening to the same fucking bands over and over again and maybe wanna stop doing that so much. >.
+Andromeda “Kitty” Hadouken I'd also recommend checking out The Melvins. They made music at the same time, the same scene, lots of the same venues, some of the same crowd. I'm glad you're into it.
+Andromeda “Kitty” Hadouken i will look them up this instant, love, PIXIES lover !!!
sjt275 Hope ya dig 'em. :3
Andromeda Hadouken I finally got to cross seeing the Violent Femmes off my dream list this past year, and it was absolutely incredible.
The band “suicide” and their debut self titled album from 1977
fucking teeth grittingly good
she was on drugs probably
Toxeensynth elle droguée... et toi con
Toxeensynth we're not all skilled as you!
who said im skilled. anyway I think people are getting wrong vibes from my comment, I just pointed out that she did drugs, as she admitted in their documentary. I love Pixies, and I love her particularly, I found kinda funny the faces she makes while playing.
Toxeensynth Magic sucks
my favourite Pixies song especially the lyrics which speak to me like no other they do. .........they do they do they do.
Goddamn my heart is just...
it's close to thirty years old now and i'm saying holy shit now. hah.
Only 400 k views ? For this incredible band who , spawned Nirvana and Radiohead..Shame ....

I was there, it was fuckin awesome!
Go Joe!
The relentless style of the "magician" mr. Lovering at the drums.
Not too long ago….. when music was MUSIC!
Hmm. I actually think this is the best live concert ever recorded along with Nirvana's MTV unplugged gig and The Doors in Hollywood.
best pixies song! Caribou!
Kim Deal's smile... she's like the Joker.
Who's the fuckers who thumbed this down!!!!? LIFE IS MINE!!!!!
Pixies are what happens when religion meets circus meets punk meets mensa. And then mix in spontaneous human combustion.
El origen del sonido de Nirvana Joe Santiago
Wow, they took my three favourite Pixies songs and played them in a row. I feel special. ^_^
Unlike my experience seeing The Pixies 3 times in their early career this show seems hurried and less connected. but could be expected.
This looks really early.theyre all really young.
Ah god they are a perfect remedy now as they were then.
Music found its peak
When they speak of "standing on the shoulders of giants"...
I`ve never seen skinny frank black before. Thank you for the video.
LOL
@@slendergainz he goes up& down a lot.
Can someone tell me if this is the actual show the guys in radiohead and blur talk about going to see in the 'gauge'-documentary? If it that's quite a crowd!
Pixies played this show and a show at an unknown venue the following night.
The pixies are one of the best ever.
88-9 pixies live makes everything else seem rubbish
It's so weird to see all the men in the group with half a head of hair.
Something against you , one might as we4ll put all Nirvana members on stage with Santiago, nobody would have noticed jack shit !
Thank to you. Keep watching the gigs
ahhh where is the rest of the setlist you name at top? - thanks for upoloading though, it's cool- in Australia here all we got to do wasread in NME etc about all these great concerts in the UK... that never came to Aus back then boo hoo.
Awesome performance. I can't get enough Joey in this one!
im actually in love with kim at this show
yeah that face she gives "There's no brakes on the rape train"
I’ve always known Weezer to have taken a major influence from Pixies, but if you asked, I’d have trouble describing exactly how. But now, after hearing “Caribou” for the first time, it all makes sense to me. “Holiday” off of Weezer’s debut album practically sounds like a rip-off of this song!
hey! frank black, been trying to meet you... mhmm mhmm mhmm must be a devil between us
repent
Oh!!! thanks y espero q t guste el resto d los videos :)
Frank Black is god
Thanks mate! This is really something else. I just loooove this band. Finland

Birth of Nirvana
FUCK YOU!
shut the FUCK UP!
Kim being autistic AF (I love her)
Oh is she autistic she reminds me of me
I was born on that day! :)
Hey is the only song from Doolittle in this set; rest of the stuff is from Come On Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa. Doolittle hadn't come out at the time the Pixies played this show. Weird.
this be blowin my mind up right real!!!!!
fuckin awesome!
Damn, that shit cramps your hand!
... Caribou is a song that speaks to me Pixies are THE BEST 😎🫵🏼
If you like the pixies check out the gun club...you'll realize what makes Francis as great as he is, they are a bigggg influence
