The larva in the waters is an Odonata larva, suborder Zygoptera (damselflies etc.). The mantis (likely Hierodula patellifera) is a presubadult female, meaning she has yet to molt twice to reach adulthood and get wings! She won't eat much until she molts, since she was almost full before being added :).

Watching the cricket approach the mantis while feeding made me fondly recall when I would feed my leopard geckos. There was never a shortage of oblivious crickets but sometimes there would be that one brilliant cricket that was a mastermind of not being eaten. Out of respect, i would set those guys free in the wild for a chance to live their life, and maybe make future smart cricket babies. :D
Your vivarium is beautiful. The narration of its progressive ecosystem is the cherry on top. I appreciate your keen eye for the smallest happenings, and thank you for sharing it with us!
this is so well done on all fronts, amazing camera work, amazing writing, amazing voice over, amazing tank, amazing work with the insects/animals, just amazing. this is spectacular.
Hey AC! Regarding the small insect you found underwater at around the 22 minute mark, my best guess judging from some of my work with other insect larvae is that that is a mayfly larvae still rather early on in development, and probably did come in accidentally with the plants you purchased. Lucky find!
22:15 To me it looks exactly like a damselfly larva. There might be a mayfly species that looks very similar, but I’m pretty sure it’s a damselfly. I accidentally had one in my aquarium too once, but since the room temperature was warmer than outside it emerged during winter instead of summer, and died shortly after, because my living room hadn’t the correct conditions (no prey and probably to dry) and it was way to cold to put it outside. But it was fascinating to see a damselfly fly in winter (probably not as weird in a tropical country). It will probably not grow big enough to eat your fish or shrimps like some dragonfly larva can (maybe their babies) but mine survived somehow with guppies and neocaridina davidi in the tank (just like in this case), idk never saw it eat. So maybe we’ll see a damselfly in one of the next videos.
I think it looks way more like a damselfly instead. The 3 appendages at the end of the abdomen, whatever they are called, look more like of a damselfly larvae too
As an entomology aficionado my whole life (I'm 46 now) I can't begin to tell you how excited I was when I saw my favorite animal in the whole animal kingdom, the Praying Mantis, been introduced into Pantdora. By the way, I believe that was a female since I spotted 5 segments on her abdomen instead of the 6 you usually see in most male species. Hope to see more of the tigers of the insect kingdom in future episodes of Pantdora. Keep it up.
You can use a slab of wood 🪵 like disc this way it’s distributes your weight when you step in so you don’t compact the soil as much, where the bugs 🐜 are living or place they placed their eggs 🥚! Great episode!
So glad to see the marauder ants back! The acrobats crack me up every time. They don't care how big you are, they're coming for you! Amazing as always...
I used to be an avid viewer 9 or so years ago when I was six until the age of ten, and watching this series has been giving that same childlike curiosity and interest I had when I was younger: mesmerizingly watching your Asian weaver ant colonies, the fire ant empire, golden sugar ants, titan ants, and even celebrating your play button successes with you. This series is bringing back those memories I had, as I’ve been loving seeing how this ecosystem develops. Thank you for both bringing back this feeling, and the moments I spent watching your videos as a kid.
Ants Canada, I am a 14 year old fan of yours and have always been interested in the life of ants, plants, and other animals in this vast world we live in! I've always wanted to work in the science of plant and animals, and how we can save their biodiversity for years to come. Your channel has made me even more inspired to continue this dream of mine, and has even inspired me to create a mini isopod terrarium! Thank you for all that you do!
Im a bit worried about Kermit and Miss Piggy once that mantis molts a few times. They regularly take on hummingbirds, a little frog would be an easy snack
I have only recently come across your channel and I am 100% addicted! I am not an insect guy but I do love animals. I am very glad that I somehow stumbled into this realm and I must say the content quality is as high as it gets in my mind! Great camera work and quality... It makes me think allot more about how this globe we live on keeps itself alive but then it also reminds me of how careless and self serving man has become. This is very refreshing!
Im innthe same boat. Im more of a freshwater and marine biology guy. Though Insects are easy to keep and easy to study in captivity. Lots of more "complex" animals like mammals behaviour changes when you cage them. For a variety of reasons.
Holy moly. I think I have a new favourite insect. Preying mantis are actually terrifying, yet also perfectly balanced by the elegance and modesty. I think the best moment, was when we saw the marauder ants which actually brought me to tears.
That poor cricket can't get a lady :( You've truly made me develop a love for certain insects with your videos. I am notorious for HATING any and all bugs, asking for them to be killed on sight. However, I now TRULY love crickets and marauder ants. They are just....amazing. I'll watch them all day and wish for their peace and happiness during their lives (but I still don't wanna touch them lol)
I know it sounds crazy but me and many others have independantly encountered mantis-like creatures during extreme psychedelic experiences, I have never looked at them with the same eyes since. They spoke to me of the past of the earth and future of species, including humans, producing incredible Meso-American art to tell their story. They were also rather annoyed that I had invaded their realm and said it wasn't time for humans to come to them except for special reasons, recreation and curiosity not being one of them. Then they threw me into a void and I woke up on the floor, totally traumatized but those mantis sages were an incredible encounter (I'm not saying this is a real experience, but it felt completely real, despite probably just being a product of my mind. But why do so many people encounter mantises when they take "heroic" doses of psychedelics? (heroic is a term within the community, it just mean megadoses that make you lose all connection to reality and stop seeing the real world around you, you are transported to a realm deep inside your mind, but it can be incredibly traumatic)
I'm so invested in this series, and pantdora as a whole. Despite being pretty averse to all insects, they are fascinating and this vivarium is an amazing way to study their behaviour.

Thank you for revitalizing my enthusiasm for nature and reminding me how entertaining it is, this is hands down one of my favorite channels.
❤️🙏🐜🌿
Watching the cricket approach the mantis while feeding made me fondly recall when I would feed my leopard geckos. There was never a shortage of oblivious crickets but sometimes there would be that one brilliant cricket that was a mastermind of not being eaten. Out of respect, i would set those guys free in the wild for a chance to live their life, and maybe make future smart cricket babies. :D
Your vivarium is beautiful. The narration of its progressive ecosystem is the cherry on top. I appreciate your keen eye for the smallest happenings, and thank you for sharing it with us!
Ty! Ant love forever! ❤️🐜🙏
It's amazing to think that you probably own very rare footage of insect mating strategies! I'm very invested in this series! Keep up the awesome work
Glad you like them!
What a relief to see the marauders trail again!!
Love your videos, I'm always looking forward to the next one!
More to come!
Nothing like the little doggy at 29:07 wanting to know and see what’s inside. Love frenchies
That acrobat ant is a gigachad, threatening a mantis, fighting off like, 6 ants at once, its wild
🤣🤣🤣 Seriously!!!
You are becoming quite the story teller. "you choose death, if you come any closer" Love this. 🦗🦗🦗
I read this as he said it😂 had to go back to make sure I heard right
The cricket serenade was good too 😊
Sitting here suddenly thinking to myself....did I just watch 10 episodes of a tank full of bugs??? lmao
this is so well done on all fronts, amazing camera work, amazing writing, amazing voice over, amazing tank, amazing work with the insects/animals, just amazing. this is spectacular.
Thank you for being part of Pantdora's journey! Ant love forever! 🙏🐜🌿
Hey AC! Regarding the small insect you found underwater at around the 22 minute mark, my best guess judging from some of my work with other insect larvae is that that is a mayfly larvae still rather early on in development, and probably did come in accidentally with the plants you purchased. Lucky find!
22:15
To me it looks exactly like a damselfly larva.
Wow I was just at that part when I found this comment
Keep it up.
Ahhh I keep misgendering the animals! Thank you! Ant love forever!
@@AntsCanada my pleasure.
You can use a slab of wood 🪵 like disc this way it’s distributes your weight when you step in so you don’t compact the soil as much, where the bugs 🐜 are living or place they placed their eggs 🥚! Great episode!
Rocksteady was trolling! 😂
Lmao the beetle pushing the cricket off the vine
Ants Canada, I am a 14 year old fan of yours and have always been interested in the life of ants, plants, and other animals in this vast world we live in! I've always wanted to work in the science of plant and animals, and how we can save their biodiversity for years to come. Your channel has made me even more inspired to continue this dream of mine, and has even inspired me to create a mini isopod terrarium! Thank you for all that you do!
Hope there are more like you in the world to help undo the damage the past 3 generations have done to the Earth’s ecosystem.

🤣🤣🤣 Right!!!
I’m so glad the marauders were ok. Also I like to think it’s all the same acrobat ant just causing chaos and I just love it
Im a bit worried about Kermit and Miss Piggy once that mantis molts a few times. They regularly take on hummingbirds, a little frog would be an easy snack
Crazy when you look at the size of them, he couldn’t even finish one cricket
I have only recently come across your channel and I am 100% addicted! I have watched hour after hour of your videos dating back 6-7 years and every single vid is more entertaining and educational than anything on TV. You really have a gift for storytelling and narration and your love and respect for all your creatures is absolutely amazing and I couldn’t have any more respect for what you do! You have a new life long fan from the UK AC! Thanks 🙏
I think i was in the first 10k subs back when he was still in Canada. Im a little jealous of you because you have a big back catalog to watch!
The song the crickets sang was so funny😂😂😂😂
I’m 23 now, but I was a fan back when I was a sophomore in highschool! He truly never misses with his videos, his commentary, filming, and everything in between is just top notch for a RUclipsr!
21:12
-Pushes off cricket
-has a laugh
-goes back the way he came from, so he literally accomplished absolutely nothing other than bullying the cricket
This is the best series over all on the whole youtube platform, truly amazing and easy as good or even better then many discovery or other made for tv productions. We owe you such gratitude for giving us the opportunity to watch and learn about insects and such. Thank you very much greeting from Sweden
Glad you enjoy it!
I've only recently discovered you're channel, don't know how I've not seen it before. I really enjoy you're episodes. All the work and knowledge put into this project alone is immense. Very educational and entertaining. I get so wrapped up in watching these, enjoying the slight comedy and suspense of the show I almost forget I'm learning a lot I never knew. Thankyou for making you're videos and sharing with us. Amazingly done. Like being told a story with great visuals.
Thank you for being part of Pantdora's journey. 🙏❤️🌿🐜

The frogs and fish try population control. Oh, and the marauder ants being food for black crazy ants. I'm involved 😊
A generational shift is coming for us, might not be this generation but we’ll start feeling the effects of humans in our floating rock soon enough
Insects are animals.
Holy moly. I think I have a new favourite insect. Preying mantis are actually terrifying, yet also perfectly balanced by the elegance and modesty. I think the best moment, was when we saw the marauder ants which actually brought me to tears.
*Praying
@@Poeticfloetic very sorry for my grammatical mistake XD, thanks for correcting me
That poor cricket can't get a lady :(
You've truly made me develop a love for certain insects with your videos.
I am notorious for HATING any and all bugs, asking for them to be killed on sight.
However, I now TRULY love crickets and marauder ants. They are just....amazing.
I'll watch them all day and wish for their peace and happiness during their lives (but I still don't wanna touch them lol)
You're narration top tier!! I am cracking up over your cricket "love song".😂😂😂
😂Those singing cricket's! That had me cracking up.
Ya boi needs to work on those lyrics!
🎶 🎤🦗🎶
I came here just to say that, hilarious 🤣
That Pray Mantis curb stomped that ant to death while continuing to sway and blend in as a leaf.....that's some gangsta sh*t
Haha those cricket love songs are a great gag
Plus, the Mantis in this environment is totally playing the Xenomorph role
❤️🐜🙏
I’ve been watching you since almost the beginning!! I’m a 57 year old woman who’s a retired tattoo artist of over 35 yrs, a biker, punk rocker, volunteer, and semi pro rodeo competitor in barrel racing. lol Yep, you’ve got all walks of life in here. Great work! ❤
Wow! Love it! You definitely belong here. Ant love forever! ❤️🙏🐜

You sound like a lady who has many wonderful stories to tell. You have ticked boxes I could only ever dream of doing. Sounds like the makings for a bestselling book or box office hit movie one day. I am a Corporate Chef🥴🥱🥲😂 Rock On Sis😍💡🔥💅👌♥️👑
Cringe
I'm a 64-year-old woman, retired after 37 years in commercial union construction, a dog breeder, former deer hunter, and a flower gardener who starts my seeds indoors. I'm in awe of the passion, knowledge, dedication, and work this takes, the technical knowledge for filming and editing, and the witty and sometimes lyrical narration. Wonderful.
The grim reaper was so badass
6:30 that was crazy how that cricket just covered her ears
My 4 year old son and I have been watching every episode together. He flinches at some of the predatory scenes, but it's been helping my wife and I teach him about the circle of life. Thanks for the bonding opportunity, Mr. AC!
Pandora is by far you best work. I would watch 100+ eps on this alone, plus any future vivarium content. I have adored your ant content for ages, but this ecosystem study is far and above the most interesting yet.
Petition for a full Ants Canada cricket album
Antscanada is the musical artist i didn't know i needed. Can't wait for your cricket song album to drop bro
😁
The way that praying mantis at 10:22 turned his/her head got me dying 😂😂
All the little sound effects he adds...
Yeah this thing is made out of nightmares.
Definitely a damselfly nymph! Very cool.
I'm so invested in this series! Fascinating.
So cool! I hope it wasn't eaten by the guppies!
I usually don’t like bugs but I like tarantulas and snakes and this had been wonderful watching and getting so involved with. Love to see more. Would also love to see butterflies with milkweed
Glad you enjoyed it!
I hope we see the acrobat ants colony in a next pantdora vid!
My friend there are a lot of YT creators that could take a master class in video production from you! What you put out is by far the best I see on YT. This is the ONLY channel I turn notifications on for. Your story telling and editing are hands down better than anyone else on this platform. Why you dont have something like 30 million subs is beyond me. I tell everyone I know about your videos and they often watch them with me if they are here when I am watching. This series in particular has generated so much conversation and planning that it influences me far more than anything I watch on TV or stream. So much so that myself and several others are planning on doing something like this, but encompassing my entire back yard which is roughly 1/2 acre. We have already started digging treches along the perimeter to make the base for the barriers that will completly enclose my backyard.
This sounds so cool! Hope you upload videos about the process and the results. I'd definitely watch that.
