Thanks for the video! I successfully installed one strut on the wheel side using the screws with no protrusions. There are solid plastic “feet” that make the sidewall much thicker. So far one strut does me just fine and I did 2 cases for $30
I have two of these cases on the custom roof rack I have on my Lx470 Overland and for sure I am going to do this mod. It's a pain to keep these open one handed while balancing on the site steps! I love these cases, they have been on my roof sitting in the sun and weather for 3 years and ZERO issues. I got them on sale for like $145 each! can''t beat that ever!
I keep a tool roll with some basic sockets, screwdrivers and wrenches. Tire plug kit, inflator hose and some recovery stuff along with a hammock just in case. Nothing really valuable but nice to always have.
You installed them upside-down. There's oil inside that's keeps the piston gasket from dry rotting. Just a heads up.
I've pinned this comment for everyone else to see! Thanks for letting me know, I've already fixed mine.
If im doing this, i use bolts, licking nuts and rubber washers on inside and out. Dont want water getting in. Nice vid!
You could have replaced the screws with pop rivets. Stick them through the outside of the case with the heads on the outside of it.

You have a photo?
Awesome! Good to find a video on something Ive been wanting to do on our apache case. good stuff!
been there done that with the VLB tap winder. I think I will use bolts instead of screws
Great mod, Idea !!! ROAM cases are not all that anyway.

I've had 0 issues with it so far, you're right, value can't be beat!
Except when you get em for 99 🤣🔥🔥
@@willjohnston3449 I know HF had a special over Christmas ! I had to get two more….
I would highly recommend using machine screws and nylon locknuts with washers on either side. Those baby screws will not hold up for the long haul.
Rivets! Not screws!
Thanks for video!!!! How do you like your case? The Roam cases are so expensive. I'm thinking of doing this.
I love it! It keeps everything dry and has given me 0 issues.
I used 550 cord
Nice but I think I would have put struts on the outside so when you drill the screws the ugly is inside . But good idea
What all do you keep in there? Thinking of getting 1 to downsize as my truck toolbox. Good or dad idea?

Thanks for the video and the reply.
pop rivets would have worked .....i think
Make a vid of what’s in your case?
Nice videos 👍 👌
Thank you!
amazing idea - gonna plagarize you this week.
Goodbye water proofing
Doesn't the silicone help keep it waterproof?
@@luminari_productions It should.
