Joe was so smart as well as so good and what I always appreciated about him was that he was so “down to earth quote: he was so good that he could have been “haughty” but he never, ever was!!
Joe Pass accompaniment starting at about 2:29 is almost better than his improvisation part - just amazing - proving that Joe was a master of both soloing and accompaniment (which should never be underestimated, although most newer artists do). He was truly one of the greatest ever.
As a guitarist watching this, all I can think about is... what would it be like to be soloing, and the guy who is feeding me the chords is JOE PASS. Holy Smoke. Cowabunga.
My little Jimi Hendrix tribute band has almost as many views that this has. What the hell is the matter with people? What does it take for people to appreciate this level of talent?
Joe's such a simple person. A good example of 'your average joe'! hehe. He could be your neighbor with whom you'd have a BBQ with every now and then. I belive this is reflected in his playing, I love it!
Country/Jazz fusion actually seems more natural to me than Jazz/Rock or Blues Fusion. The emphasis on a clean tone and playing through changes links them...I wish Lenny Breau did more things like this.
This is great stuff! I never had an appreciation of Roy's abilities and knowledge of the fingerboard until I was around him a couple of months out of the year for several years. The big difference between him and Joe is that Joe knows intellectually every move he's doing...Roy does not. And that is not a dig at Roy in the least. Roy does what he hears in his head, much like a singer. Instinctive is the word I'm hunting for, I guess. And Joe? He was the master of time and space on six strings. Add some bacon grease and five string banjo to Joe and you have the great guitarist Jerry Reed!
Great.
These GREATS are just that!! Two of the greatest guitarists I have ever heard!!
absolutely gorgeous tones they make together
