@8:05 THIS is just what I was hoping you'd say at some point. Thank you so much for cutting through all of the "You could do this, or this, or you could try this." A lot of us who watch are hobbyists and are looking for what is the starting point. That simple 3 step explanation is so amazing. THANK YOU!
I love the stuff you use, but the cost get a bit out there for me, so I decised to use Megwires polishing compouds, and I use Harbor Freight Pads and Foam pads, its been working for me, but then, I'm not a professional. But I have learned alot from your tutorials. Thank you, God Bless.
I'm not going into the boat detailing business. I recently bought a 26' World-Cat Catamaran. I live in Florida around Crystal River area. I just want to take good care of my new boat. I never used a buffering machine. Thanks for the tip on Dawn detergent. However it is to late for me. I clean my hull with a sight mixture of Dawn. Now, I want to put the shine back on. Can I use a 6" pad on a 7" inch machine? One of your videos, I saw you use a Microfiber pad to apply and remove product.. I think I'd like to use that method.
What are your thoughts on replacing the yellow wool with the lake country purple foamed wool on a rotary? Could you get decent results in just a two-step? Old boat, just trying to bring a little shine back. I have a lot of small areas to do and the 9 inch yellow wool is just too big. I can’t seem to find a 6 inch yellow wool
I know this is an older video, and i might be too late to leave a comment. I started a boat detailing business on the NC coast. Love your videos and have learned so much from your content. My question is what backing plate do you use on your rotary? I am using the stock backing plate and cant seem to get my wool pads to bend and move the way yours do in the video. Any advice would be freatly appreciated. God Bless!
Hey bro! The reason your wool pad doesn’t bend like the ones you see me use is because I use a double sided wool pad with an extension on the rotary spindle. Double sided pads: shinesupply.com/collections/pads-applicators/products/copy-of-buff-and-shine-wool-pad-7 Spindle extension: www.amazon.com/TCP-Global-Extender-Adapter-Polishers/dp/B016ANXVLA/ref=asc_df_B016ANXVLA/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693600373374&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9589604259119288474&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9015328&hvtargid=pla-569694434120&psc=1&mcid=dc8f8555e10132719c8b381f2f7ace9b&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInrjtquvehQMVdlz_AR26IQYREAQYBCABEgJZnfD_BwE It’s just a lot easier to weave in and out of places with the double sided pad than the single. It minimizes your chances for buffer burn marks.
The Jarred does not replace the medium cut compound, just car is just a straight sealant. After your final polishing stuff is when you apply the Jescar.
Hey I'm 39 and I live in Miami. Do you have a course for beginners? Should I start working for a marina to get some experience before I start on my own? What's your take on the Miami Market? New to usng compound on my White catamaran . Usng an ordinary Rotary polisher . What product are you supposed to use with the newly suggested yellow wool pad to get rid of swirls before applying boat polish? Using 3 M compound ( heavy oxidation) + white wool pad, and have Starbrite boat polish with polymer in it. Thank you for any advice.
I would use shine supply chop top on the yellow wool pad, it’s a great swirl remover! www.detailusupply.com/products/shine-supply-chop-top-32oz?_pos=1&_psq=chop+top&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Thanks!

Huge fan here as well. Question: Do we need to buy the makita buffer or can we use the da v2 m8 instead or I have to buy the makita rotary buffer? Thanks!
It depends on what you are do with it. Are you going to be doing heavy cutting or light polishing? If you need to cut away heavy oxidation then you need the rotary and the. The DA to finish out with lighter polish. If you boat is already in good shape and bait needs a wax or light polish then you will be able to get away with a DA
Unrelated to this video, I’ve been using your system for years but I haven’t used a ceramic. Would you apply ceramic over a sealant or vice versa or do you have to choose one or the other?
A good coating (especially multiple coats) will outlast a polymer sealant by about a year and a half/two years depending on the location of your boat. It’s whatever the customer is paying for and if they want more of a long-term solution
I just bought the Makita 7" polisher and got the white and yellow wool pads...what pad would I need for sealent or wax with the velcro backing pad? I love your videos and keep them coming.
Hey love all your videos learn alot from you. I work detailing on a factory line of brand new boats. I know with car detailing they have a clearcoat readers for scratches but I wanted to know if you can do a video on knowing if a scratch is to deep into the gelcoat where you do not try sanding it out as a detailer.
Another informative video as usual. Quick question as I am about to order some products again for my 2021 sportsman which is still in really great shape after a year of use. I have a few really small scratches if you even want to call them that and was wondering how the slick back plays with sealants like hyper hold and Jescar as a first step?
hey Drake just stumbled across your videos and have been thinking about starting this as a side business. I saw in one of your videos that you used jescar as a sealant do you still use this and if so when would you? Much more to than I originally thought there would be.
So, the MAXSHINE has orbital diameter of 5 ", but the pads your selling Lake Country CCS are 5.5." is it ok to have wider pads then the diameter of the machine???
Another awesome video from Drake. Quick question. I have been getting more requests for gel coat corrections on RV’s and travel trailers. Would a heavy cut microfiber pad on a DA be a better option for that rather than a rotary? I’ve heard mixed reviews on how much gel coat you have to work with on a travel trailer so more aggressive is not recommended. Any input would be awesome.
I would Use a forced rotation for an RV’s gelcoat with a heavy cut foam pad and see how that cuts, it that does not cut it then you might have to step it up with a rotary
Would you make a video pertaining to polishing and coating a boat NOT using a rotary polisher? I have just a harbor freight DA polisher because I don’t want to spend hundreds on something I’m gonna use maybe two or three times
Drake I find myself more and more using the LC purple foamed wool on my rotary as a follow up behind traditional white wool and also as a one step with a medium cut
But with durability tho how long does the LC foam wool last ? I just did a 31ft class C with that as my second step turned out amazing but seems like I have one use left in it
@@tylerdominiak3210 with the purple wool I usually use multiple pads similar to how I would change out foam pads so I’m not wearing them out. They work really well on a forced rotation as well
Yes, I’d there is good enough oxidation. You just need to be a little more cautious than on a gelcoated boat. Paint, jsut by the nature of it is thinner than gelcoat
