Great work! You don't get that kind of enthusiasm with older musicians. Youth Orchestras are highly under-rated. Most of us can't chose who we work for, and although I've never appreciated Dudamel or the recent governments of Venezuela, this performance seems like a good fit; it also helps the young musicians.
60 Minutes did a story about the Simon Bolivar Orchestra and Dudamel. They talked about how the parents in the area were dying to get their child or children in the orchestra because it gives them purpose and keeps them out of trouble. My favorite conductor is Leonard Bernstein. My second favorite is The Dude. Both gentlemen are overflowing with passion!
Sorry but I am coming up to 70 and I can!! No offence meant of course but a chamber orchestra I played with recently did a jig (or a gigue?!!) by Bach and danced around the Church in a most undignified manner! Some of the audience were in tears!!!

There were no jigs, but when I was in a panic to find a prelude or postlude for the upcoming church service, the Hokey Pokey came to mind. I thought I had lost my sanity. When I mentioned that musicians don't always have the freedom to chose who they work for, I mostly meant historically, such as with Bach and Haydn.

I remember well the feeling that "El Sistema" had and how everyone turned a blind eye to the outcome of the Venezuelan socialist system. Today nobody wants to know about it. At least Dudamel is very rich and happy.
