@@josue5888 - it might well be. But like everything else he wrote, it is full of Gallic wit and polish. Very little destruction in it. The 4/4 at the end is lost on the listener. if we are looking at it from that standpoint, it is a failure, and I'm glad it is.
The size of the Simon Bolivar orchestra in this piece is astounding! That sai, they gave an outstanding & magnificent performance that rivals any other major, established orchestra in the world. Gustavo Dudamel needs no introduction (anymore), after having become the music director and main conductor of [our] LA Phil, but I'll bet that his proudest achievement will always be conducting the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, and more so than ever in this complex, energetic, and mind blowing composition , La Valse, by the great Maurice Ravel. Many kudos and Bravos to all! Thanks. Also many thanks to the videographers and editors who did a superb job, showing close ups of the players when they were soloists etc. Thanks all.
I've been a fan of this Ravel piece ever since I first heard it, and Dudamel embodies to the orchestra here the way the waltz descends (or ascends?) into madness.
The apotheosis and the destruction of the classical Viennese Waltz. What a statement by Ravel. Memorable.
I don't think it's the destruction of anything. Rather, it's the culmination of the form in a very French way.
@@lagunagreg4019it is a conceptual piece, the destruction of a Viennese Waltz. Ravel himself confirmed it. That's why at the end you hear 4/4.
