    Certainly a pity you didn’t choose the performance with Corlea Botha , . However, I loved your comments William & look forward to many more Amira reactions.
    I have asked on a couple of occasions for your reaction to a couple of performances in particular, so if I may, I’ll ask again.
    …. … Sound of Music medley at the age of 15. Amira sings one octave above the original by Julie Andrews & absolutely nails it.
    …. … When you Wish Upon a Star at age 17. Absolutely beautiful & her lovely speech to start shows what a beautiful human being Amira is.
    Cheers Graeme

    Ah William, you should have picked the performance with Corlea Botha as the mezzo. The two of them harmonise so closely, they blend as one, even the vibratos merge. It's in a theatre, so no wind, and a show piece, so no chattering. Having said that, there is no faulting the singing of either of these two, and thank you for coming back to Amira again.
    There are a handful of rehearsal videos from this show, funicula funiculI is another, they are good fun.

    Hello William, thank you for another great reaction to Amira! Just in case you wonder why there are so many people talking in the background, that's because this was the rehearsal and not the actual performance.

    Sad to say, the audio I was hearing was so bad it only came thru as screeches. I was gritting my teeth in agony. I have watched Amira several times singing this same song with Corlea Botha and it sounds a thousand times better.
    Glad to hear, sir, that you rank Amira amongst the top sopranos of the opera world. Thank you.

    This is a rehearsal for a performance in an open-air venue at Vergelegen (a 200 year old wine estate at Somerset West, near Capetown), recorded on a cell phone, early in 2018. The concert was known as "Starlight Classics" and was an annual event, pre-Covid.

      @@BangkokVoiceCoach The actual concert performance is also on RUclips, but it's awful. They've changed everything. They lowered the volume of Amira's microphone and raised that of the mezzo. The camera pretty much only shows the mezzo, even when Amira sings solo. Terrible.

      @@BangkokVoiceCoach I had a lot of trouble with my original comment - could not complete it. The performance at"Lexus Classics" in 2017 was a far superior recording, though Amira had progressed further in the meantime. jorgechaves's comment is correct; I suspect the sound desk operators were still finding their settings on this performance.

      This does not seem a rehearsal to me, with audience and the beautiful dresses. Maybe so. Registration is not always done well especially in Amira perfomances or the uploads are from amateurs .She is such a sweet and humble person. I think she don't mind! (sorry for my English, I am Dutch😅)

    Hello William. I have deliberately stopped commenting for a while whilst Amira makes the difficult transition from a magical child with amazing talent to a young adult. She has recently shown she is still magical and has not lost the surreal abilities she has. I made a chance discovery in 2014 (HGT ave maria) I am now looking forward to experience Amira standing in front of a large orchestra alla Andre Rieu or Classics is groot last time this has happened is 2019.

    • @BangkokVoiceCoach
      @BangkokVoiceCoach  Год назад +1

      It’s a REALLY difficult transition and a lot of people can’t make it. Child talent is supernatural and beyond explaining. But as adults we are much more self aware and self critical.

    This is so, so beautiful. And it is so special to hear your reaction on these songs/aria's: someone who knows 'the ins and outs' from the art of singing. By the way, something completely different: do you like French Chansons? Recently I came across a 15 year old Dutch girl, Emma Kok. She did the Chanson 'Voilà' and a good quality video is to be find on André Rieu's channel. Emma has a serious illness. Because of that she can't eat the normal way and all her food has to be given to her via a permanent infusion, which she has near by with in a bag. But she loves singing and is very good at it. In fact she sings so well that André Rieu has invited her to take part at his World tour, next year, in 2024... Back to Amira: When Amira had been 15 at the time she performed with him (in 2014 that was) I have no doubt he had given her the same chance, but she was just much too young at the time. Next year that will be 10 years ago, so who knows what is in store....

    How do you define Amira’s unique talent? I think it’s not one thing but a combination of things: she seems to combine the vocal range of Sack, the pure vocal beauty of Agay and Hallstein, the effortless power of Lanza, and Callas’s ability to ‘inhabit’ the role she’s singing; that’s what makes her performances so emotional to the audience. It’s a physiological, rather than psychological reaction - and perhaps why people say “why am I crying? - I don’t even like opera.”

    I think you had some finger trouble with the re-upload. Cecilia Rangwanasha is the mezzo. She did very well at Cardiff in 2021. However, the duet with Corlea Botha and Amira is excellent too. Their voices blend wonderfully. My sister who lives in the UK asked me yesterday "What's with the pipeline of African sopranos from South Africa"? The answer to that is excellent training, at the universities. At this event the use of microphones can be excused because it is a huge venue. But Amira should really let go of the microphone now. I saw her live in a small theatre and I don't think the microphone did her any favours.

      The microphone tends to take up shrillness without the acoustic reverb you get in a classical hall.

    Honestly? This is BS.
    They aren’t together a lot of the time. They didn’t even start together. It’s not great singing from either. Intonation is bad too. Relying on microphones isnt opera or accomplished singing. Singing with mikes just allows them to listen even less to each other. There’s no proper balance or blending.

    • @jorgechavesfilho
      @jorgechavesfilho Год назад +3

      Operatic singing was developed during a period when there were no microphones, so special singing techniques had to be developed to overcome the orchestra in a large hall. So let's not use cameras either? And not use electric stage lighting? Honestly? It is because of this archaic and elitist mentality that opera is not appreciated by the general public. Andrea Bocelli wears a microphone and his minimum fee is US$ 1.5 million. Amira brought tens of millions of fans to enjoy opera arias.
