Apparently there was another update (I’ve never been able to find it) which revealed the history of OP’s parents with Ashley’s parents and Kyle’s parents. According to second-hand info from this update, all three spouses were swingers in the past and all three couples have had sex with each other. This is why they’re all so close and why OP’s mom was so adamant about maintaining the status quo. After OP’s dad filed for divorce, OP’s mom confronted Kyle’s parents in public, aired their dirty laundry and blamed _them_ for everything bad that had happened. This is how OP’s mom has lost all her friends, and I believe Kyle’s parents got a RO against her.

Kyle sounds like a TERRIBLE person! Imagine having a perfectly good lover right in front of you, going out to a party, getting that persons best friend pregnant, just to never apologize or explain the situation to your original lover, and then marry the affair partner when the original lover runs because the situation YOU caused became too much. The OP is the pushover child of the family. Her feelings, needs and priorities are never considered by her family. Everyone else knows more about her life than her. I agree! There's no explanation/apology that will make OP feel better. Excuses could trigger those old memories/feelings. If Kyle and Ashley feel like shit people still after 15 years so be it! OP is not obligated to give her forgiveness to them. I think OP's leaving was the right consequence and self-care/preservation move for her. It's unfortunate that she lost her relationship with her little sister but I understand that she needed to completely remove herself from that situation/family.

Were I in OP's shoes, I would have just agreed to speak with Ashley and Kyle and tell them to fuck off. The mom needs to be institutionalized, not appeased. If they’d confessed immediately, maybe it could be forgiven as a drunken lapse of judgment. But to keep it secret for so long and, in Ashley’s case, actively mislead OP was a deliberate choice. IMO, this is a case where the cover-up is worse than the crime.

When someone betrays you really bad it can happen. It's even happened in other stories and personally had a partner cheat on me and the moment I found out, exactly that kind of thing happened. I was just done with them and all interactions felt like just talking to a stranger.
It's happened to me a couple times before. It really sucks when it happens and I'm sorry you're going through it. I truly hope you find better friends that will return your love and respect.

Damn. That was a lot to say the least. This was kind of turning in to one of those stories where I would get pissed at the OP for even asking if they were the ahole if they clearly weren’t, but I think that was for the best this time. So much happened that I wasn’t even mad at her. I was just sad. They turned teenage drama everyone gets over by the end of college into the albino twin of one of the siblings the family keeps in the attic with JUST HOW MUCH EFFORT they put into preemptively heading off OPs right to react to things that affect her.

The mother wanting things to go back to the way they were, 15 years is a lot of time that can't be undone, seems like she couldn't wrap her head around that. Also seems like a lot of people wanted this person's permission, not forgiveness, to have it be okay that they snuck around behind her back and kept their unfaithful relationship from. Can't imagine why someone would be okay with two whole families keeping that a secret from her (that last bit was sarcasm, in case it wasn't obvious).
Usually these "accidental" drunk hookups are never accidental. One of them had a crush on the other and that party was just good timing and an excuse for later. And it seems that Ashley was the one who had a crush on Kyle.

Original Poster posted this after the 2nd update when someone asked her about whether or not her sister was bullied on the 12th July 2023: -
"Hello! She was never bullied before really, it started after she got pregnant. Our state is pretty conservative, so it wasn't well received that she was pregnant, unmarried, and without a partner. There was no physical violence, people were quite mean and kept reminding her of her mistakes. I don't know if people knew that he was the father, I always just assumed it was because she was pregnant.
I've learned from my dad that apparently they weren't hooking up with each other before (but that could be a lie), but apparently she did like him, so it wasn't really just an awkward, drunk one-night stand with just anyone. Knowing this fact would probably kill me back then, but I sort of assumed without being told. Her ex suspected it. They didn't date anymore at the party, but I think he also never liked K, so seeing them together like that was a red flag.
I wasn't a party animal, nor was she, but idk they just went that day. I don't remember if they went together or separately, but I'd assume the latter. She did have other friends after all, who enjoyed night outs. The drunkness part. I really don't remember them being that heavy drinkers. At least I never saw her drunk to the point that she was reckless or had a ''loss of memory''. So I never really believed that part much, but I wasn't there. And really it doesn't matter, drunk or not, it was a betrayal.
I read some of Kyle's texts back then. I never answered any of the phone calls or anything. I never spoke to them after I learned that he was the father. I kinda regret that now, maybe it would have been more beneficial for everyone if I gave them a good earful, expressed all the pain, and gone no contact after that, but I just wasn't in the right state of mind and I was sick a lot back then. This current letter is from her and I haven't read it yet.
At this point, I believe that my mom is grieving the lost of a tight family/friendship unit that we had when I was younger and some other relationship. She has yet to realize that none of HER five kids speak or see her. None of her grandchildren see her. None of us (as far as I know) speak to her. That in itself would be the end for me. I can't imagine what emotional state she must be in. We all agree that we need psychological or psychiatric help. She refused. Dad and eldest brother tried, but you can't convince someone like that."

Why is she in contact with any of these people? Evan if some are more to blame than others, there is just so much history between them all that i would have just cut them all off forever. Siblings, parents, all of them. I don't know how they can claim to love her after every thing they did. I'd say there lier's if they do claim to love her. It's unfortunate but if it were me i'd have told niece after the first email not to contact me ever again. These people undid every bit of progress she made in therapy. If the niece had an email she could use to contact her aunt, her siblings could have as well. They didn't. I agree with people here that everyone of them are monsters.

Sometimes in life you are utterly surrounded by enemies who are supposed to love you but they don’t care at all-they only love themselves. They only look out for themselves. Lord knows, this has been my experience with family and old friends too. You have to recognize when you are on a sinking ship and everyone on that ship has every intention of watching you be the first to drown. They mean you harm simply by not caring enough about you. That is when you must jump ship and save yourself because no one is looking out for you, only for themselves. Stop rearranging chairs on a ship that’s going down and give up on the whole thing. Save yourself, get away. And NEVER look back, no one is worth it when it comes with that much pain and suffering to even be slightly linked to them. The sister blamed OP for not being there because then she became the scapegoat that took the heat from psycho mom-so even SHE was more worried about herself and what happened to herself than she was about her sister’s well-being or safety.
