As a mom to a child who has done gymnastics with a male coach I demanded to always be present and they would tell me I was the only mom who had an issue. They would also go behind mats and bars where I couldn’t see them and then I would walk over to see them and they would tell me I wasn’t allowed to be “on the floor”. Guess what? We stopped going there and went to another place where parent can have full view. If anyone is accuse you of being overprotective, nope can’t be too careful with predators.

No normal non-degenerate coach would ever say that or "tickle" a small child, especially wearing a form fitting leotard. There is no logical reason for something like that to ever happen. Have you seen all those online videos of Biden touching kids he doesn’t know…he has no boundaries around children, a sign of a child predator. His kids are probably abuse victims, especially since Ashley Biden has now confirmed the diary was hers where she said she showered with her Dad and she thinks it was inappropriate looking back. There's no way I'm allowing an adult male to train my child daughter in gymnastics.
I remember being very young, watching the Olympics, and wondering why so many men were into coaching girls gymnastics. I sensed something unnatural going on.
Depending upon where you live, you may not have a choice. Besides,building skills of discernment & knowing ' good/bad touches' is an ongoing conversation with your child. You also just make it impossible for anything untoward to happen when your child is with other adults. Most predators won't let their guard down if they know the child has a stable home situation, friend groups that align with parent groups &/or # least one parent is available during trainings. Groupings of students based on age & skill levels usually occurs organically & naturally & often leads to camaraderie, & much like carpooling, can be switched up for who is at the studio with the students for safety.
As much as we love our children & don't want ANYTHING BAD to ever happen to them, we can't be helicopter parents & have them fitted with a cloud & bubble wrap. These "break-away" techniques are good skills for both parent & child to engage in, & build confidence while helping to ensure safety.

It is horrible to conclude from this "the solution is: don't let your child do sports". Why should our kids not be able to have freedom and pursue their talents/ skills/ interests?? It's outrageous to think we would limit our child's lives for the sake of predators. Unacceptable. I refuse to take such abuse for granted. As a society we must not. Kids shouldnt do hands on coaching sports, i dont believe any woman or male gymast should get into coaching because its too risky. Even if you did everything 100 by the book, a child could simply say you touched them and even if its untrue, your name is forever related to that claim…so…why would anyone do it? If that means kids dont get training…oh well. Then have the parent train them..if they are not an athlete, oh well…

It’s so tough these days. People have to be wary of everyone. When I was in primary school, we had a couple of school bus drivers (John & Bob) who were really really nice & caring & they loved their jobs. They were never creepy but just fatherly or even grandfatherly & they let us do stuff that would never be accepted today, like standing right next to them when they drove. Once when a girl got sick & vomited all down the centre aisle, Bob drove off the route & carried her into her house to her Mum. We’d even give them Christmas gifts at the end of the year & they’d give us lollies. It’s so horrific that paedophiles have destroyed that innocent inter generational caring friendship that used to be possible.
This is what I always think about, it’s why we can’t have nice things or as easily, it’s so much more complicated to be able to actually help our young ones when we’re just trying to be human. The wicked want to destroy our freedoms and take everything while they can get away with actually hurting the innocent.

My sisters ex was a gymnastics coach to children....while he was sleeping she went through his phone finding many child photos on there with children in suggestive positions in gymnastic suits. He freaked out and they got into a fight, my sister beat his ass and she ended things reporting all of it. I only wonder and become scared what he did to the children he taught when he was in that position. He also had many hard drives and towers in his room, each one had its own server. My sister and I later speculated he had that many not for games but for indecent images of children. Nothing came about our reports and she has a restraining order on his as of now. He began hacking into her accounts and emails, sending things to her address (A NEW ADDRESS BTW) he was stalking her and that's what let to a restraining order.

One of the teachers at my secondary school was an athletic, swimming and gymnastics coach. It turned out that he was a “friend of Jimmy”, abusing one of the athletes he trained. From what I heard, he got three years in prison. He taught me history in my second and third year (now called year 8 and year 9).
I think it’s common that parents drop their kids off for practice, run errands and come back after. And I think coaches take advantage of parents not being there.

The gym my kids went to had cameras everywhere but the locker room/bathroom and there was an area for parent to view their child practice.
When my son was a little boy, he was in karate. The whole place was made of glass. Where the students practiced. We were able to see the whole gym. The students were never out of view.

My daughter played field hockey for over 16 years…they know how to use a stick. We were blessed to have coach’s over the years that treated the girls as if they were their own. Parents very involved, yet allowed them to do their jobs. Children these days are the most victimized in our society.

I don’t have kids, I’m 41 and I have a neice and nephew but all my homies and cousins kids call me uncle Teez, I’m like that cool uncle, and one thing he said that threw me was that he tickles the kids to make them more comfortable and bring they walls down, I tell all my nieces and nephews the exact opposite, keep your walls up at all times, just cuz u kno im safe, dont let that get u comfortable cuz not everyone is good! Also, my blood niece said these old men was tellin her they can’t wait til she turns 18 so they can get a piece of her and she was 12, I make sure to let them all kno I don’t care who it is, even if I say something to that u think sounds weird u go tell your parents, and u tell another adult!!
