I remember it as the general MIDI. And compared to that version, none of these sounds seem to sound anything like they're supposed to XD. I like this version but I think it's ironic bc Soundblaster/adlib was supposed to be better than general MIDI, right? And yet all the sounds just sound like straight up synth sounds. The MIDI version has a mock-grandiose element where some of the instrument sounds sound pretty close to orchestral ones, and the "electric guitar" from wave one in MIDI always sounded pretty awesome in this synthy guitar way. This one sounds great (I'm not a hater), but it just sounds more straight keyboard. Also, why is there literally like no snare at all in Adlib? I mean, that's kind of important XD. I'm just weirded out that anyone would make a sound system with these deficiencies and then claim it's better than MIDI. But maybe i'm wrong about that claim... could be I'm remembering it wrong!! So oops if it is!! Don't get me wrong, MIDI has less proper synth sounds if I remember right, but idk, to my ears it just sounds closer to like a real live instrument soundtrack. But hey bro, it's all how you remember it. Each person has their own version they remember and to them that will always be the best version. So rock on.
@@starvio97 Adlib OPL3 is a simple but programmable synth. You can make a lot of different sounds, but they all sound like blip-blop. Do you guys remember not hearing the music any more because everything around you was exploding and you tried to reach the end with almost no health? Loooooooong ago..........
I also wondered why I remember those two very well then I realized I did so much farming for Dumbfire Missile (I think?) so I kept hearing that soundtrack for hours on end while farming.
First game i've ever played along with my dad. He passed away in 2009 and hearing this soundtrack reminds me the good old times spent with him playing Raptor 🥲
Me and my cousins would play this together as kids. One of us would control the jet and the other would fire weapons lol so goofy but fun as a kid back then.
there's one multiplayer game out now that allows you to replicate what you described in part... it's called Marauders... it's a first person shooter game... but once you get out of the "space station" there's this section of the game where you gotta drive your spaceship back to your home station
in these spaceship sections, when you play the game in Multiplayer Cooperative mode, player 1 controls the ship and player 2 controls the Weapon Turret up on top... it reminded me of the story you said 👍
it's called Marauders... interesting game... a bit too tense at times (it's not one of these games you can play while listening to music for example) but interesting game concepts nonetheless 🤘
Imfromtheearth - what about 12:54, with the death ray ships that randomly appeared and immediately took your shields down by 25%, again and again? Evil levels..
@@joelbell6075 you mean landing in the hangar, yeah that was cool, as well as the oil rigs burning and the ship exploding in the forest, its in every final level
It appears to be a rather popular sound. Every other year I'd be watching something and notice it. I think I even heard it in a documentary once during a 'dramatic' CG animation. I'm sure there is a WAV of the original high quality sound somewhere but I have not been able to find it yet.
What I love about wave 1 music (well and I guess technically all the level music) is that because the level scrolls at a constant speed, you begin to associate changes in the song with certain incoming enemies. LIke for me 5:51 makes me think of the section where the ships that drop money come across diagonally in groups of three : /
There are actually several of those dates according to a forum post on VOGONS. These are: February 27th, March 12th, April 24th, May 16th, August 28th, and October 2nd. These appear to be birthdays of developers of the game, yes.
Game Over track brings back so many memories I forgot about. I sometimes used to goof off and play this game back in High School, die in a boss fight a few times and then contemplate life as I sat staring at the screen. Hearing this test gives me a eerie weird urge now to study for a non-existing math exam :D.
almost all the other videos of the soundtrack aren't the classic adlib. this is how i remember it.
Me too, man. Me too
2 dislike, who is it?
Yes! wish I could hear piano cover before I die

Wave 1 and Wave 6 still gives me chills. So awesome.
I also wondered why I remember those two very well then I realized I did so much farming for Dumbfire Missile (I think?) so I kept hearing that soundtrack for hours on end while farming.
I'd probably want Wave 6 played at my funeral lol

from 1994 straight into 2022 release... you were ahead of time 👍
The track from 10:00. When i first heard that as a kid i was thinking "damn... now it's gonna get tough!"
Imfromtheearth - what about 12:54, with the death ray ships that randomly appeared and immediately took your shields down by 25%, again and again?

Bruh, same chills man
I just love how this track continues even through the ending cutscene of the level!
awe 32

Hangar is absolutely fire 🔥
Hanger should have played between each wave.
wooaah yeah
Its a hanger
So many childhood memories playing this game with my dad.
Hangar and Wave Music 3 have been stuck in my head for years.
me too
You're not the only one
I like hangar
@@ai4b4cjp6 It's an example I'd point to of good Ablib music. One of the classic things about this game.
An example of music which was meant for Adlib, GM version doesn't sound well
GM might sound like crap, but it sounds pretty good on my Sound Canvas
This game had hands down one of the best sound tracks for shoot em ups, except maybe for R-type and Tyrian.
Definitely!
You might love this one then : ruclips.net/video/G7sBuntObOw/видео.html :)
Raiden has a great soundtrack too, I must type.
Only the sound when the 'Cygnus Studios ' image appears is missing. That's is also the same sound when the bosses of the waves are introduced.

The Cygnus Studios logo is silent.
That Game Over theme is quite strong...
Just some of the best PC gaming music ever.
I like how the hangar music loops for 3 minutes.
I've been looking for these... This is how it sounded for me ;-;
"Not a dinosaur game!" You don't say?

"vvvrrrrp" , "vvvrrrrp" , "vvvrrrrp" , "vvvrrrrp"
just like Wave 3 music immediately makes you think about the green Ground Targeting Missiles 🤣
I like it better than Tyrian...
you will go far in life!
Isn't there a special version of the Apogee Fanfare that plays when you boot this game on a certain date? Like on Scott Host's birthday or something?

I dunno guyz...Wave 4 sounds utterly, totally sad and depressing. What's _your_ opinionz?
I don't know, Wave 3 just makes me think of Ground Targeting Missiles 🤣🤣
1:45 самая серьёзная тема. на трубку себе поставил
Tom Scot is remaking this game and streaming it live on yt, pretty good.
I remember playing this when it came out. The wave 2 theme especially stuck with me, and hearing it again now just brings those memories back.
first time hearing the tune for the night time missions, i knew shit got real.
Cool tunes from good times. Has anyone tried to modify Wave 3's music file and amplify the organ little bit which starts at 7:54?

mmm that wave 4 bgm
Memories. Back then adlib Musics were best available. Midi sounds were great. Love them. Thanks for sharing.
This is how it sounded at ours :)
Raptor and Tyrian.
The very beginning of Game Over sounds like When the Spirit Slips Away by Thin Lizzy
This music means so much to me, great memories 😊
1:44 - That's how I remember the hangar
Classic.
I like the main menu music. that fm sound at 0:48 is so classic and nostolglic.
Reminds me the sweet childhood memories
Yes
Number 6 is similar to Starship troopers ost kalendathu drop
Those night levels were cool as fuck when I played this as a kid.
Wave 2 gives me chills
Sounds more like an OPL2 soundtrack.
the patch bank is opl2. its excactly the same patch bank as used in doom
nice, this is exactly how I played it first time
4:44 Yeah this is it, the Final Stage One
1:42
9:34 damn that's some old times
OMG! MAIN SCREEN, HANGAR, WAVE 4, 5, AND 6!!! HANGAR FOR MY STUDYING MECHATRONICS, WAVE 5 FOR PROGRAMMING!!!
Wave 1, 4 e 6, amo!
E nois pai galo
Why doesn't this game have a sequal?? Freaking miss it. Played this multiple time as a kid and a few times as an adult.
1:44 Dirty Diana
I love wave 6. It's a suicide hero type of track, if anyone feels me.
A true endboss game
best game ever
gracias
Hangar. omg
