- Various stage themes from a shoot 'em up classic I'll never forget, arranged into a single track. There are some really nice melodies in the soundtrack so I'm surprised I haven't seen all that many decent arranges, so here's my take.
To save myself some time having to record and edit game footage, I used Mocarg's Audio React 2 for some nice lookin' effects. Visit his channel:

And while I'm at it, here's a couple of cool Raptor-arranges by other cool dudes:

Such is life for people who can't afford the game and play shareware
@@nicrobe9443 lol pretty much. i played must've played the demo about 10,000 times, lol.
@@nicrobe9443 I piracy it
I've spent the last 3 days methodically going through and listening to all of your music Stone. On repeat. This is by and far the most nostalgia I've felt ever. I love this track. It's in serious contention for my number one song of all time. Remix or otherwise. I could rock to this for the rest of my life.
The game was sweet thats for sure.
listening to this for 7 years, still one of the coolest things I've ever heard
Same! I keep coming back to listen to this every year or so. It's so rad
Nearly 11 years and same 🤘
Same here! :3
Still got it on repeat? I think that must be a world record by now!
@@PhysiKarlz good point. Been* lol
Upon returning to base, you take your helmet off as the blast doors depressurize to balance between the oxygen content inside and the toxic atmosphere of Bravo Sector outside. You look back to watch the ruin of Lithos Petroleum's rig fade into the smoke filled distance. With this, not only have you left your mark, but also paved the way for things to come. Your thoughts drift to the missions ahead, where greater odds offer greater rewards. Fate has offered you a path to glory. The rest is up to you...

Sometimes things I touch turn to poo. I just try not to post those things. ;p
+Stone McKnuckle LOL
+Stone McKnuckle lol that's very honest of you, also where can I request a remix of a certain song?
Any comment field on any video I upload works fine. I'll not make any promises though.
+Stone McKnuckle that's fine, I'd like to see Blaster Master area 6 music remixed it would go well with that excellent area 7.
If they did a remake of the game they should use this for it.
+Draconi Kratosus I load this up to get inspired , and I made raptor
+Scott Host that's awesome.
Hey you actually did! I loved that game so much - it was a big part of my childhood - thanks for making it :)
Wow, you worked for Apogee? They made lots of great classics and this is one of them!
You made a well crafted gem :D

I remember playing the original 1994 DOS edition of this game. Or, rather, the shareware version of it. I had a LOT of shareware games. I got REALLY good at the first episodes of MANY games back in the mid 1990's. 😉
Thanks for this awesome remix!
This was my life in the early 90's T_T
Me too heh. I had a disc that had like 30 games on it, including Monster Bash, Bio Menace, and this game as well. I remember figuring out that in the third level once I got the special missiles, I could exit out and sell them and after multiple times of this, was able to afford the best weapon in the game. After that, it was simple to mop the floor with enemies, especially after adding in some other upgrades. I was never able to find the full versions of these games sadly and still wish I could to this day.
@@MajorTeag FYI surprisingly the game is now on Steam and can be purchased for a few dollars: store.steampowered.com/app/336060/Raptor_Call_of_The_Shadows__2015_Edition/
Same here, only ever had the shareware version of many great games -- those you listed, plus Duke Nukem 3D, Jazz Jackrabbit, etc. There was a brief period of time where you could find the full-version roms on "Abandonware" sites then play them via DosBox or other DOS emulators. When I finally played the full versions more than a decade later, it was like pure nostalgic bliss.
I think this was the first PC game I ever played in like 2004 or 2005 when I was a five year old. This, Sonic Adventure 2 and Tekken Tag 1 are my earliest gaming memories. Funnily enough, the only song I recognize is the Game Over theme... says a lot about how good a 5 year old is at shmups.
Today, April 1st 2014, we are celebrating Raptor's 20th anniversary. Not April Fools. It's completely true. :)
it's almost 30 now

03:35 onwards... You are... out of this world, McKnuckle. You are a golden talent. A hero. A demigod.
I know I am repeating myself... But this is a true masterpiece, both by the creator(s) of the original soundtrack and the man who made the remix. How can it throw so much emotion at me I do not know but I think this is the best out of all McKnuckle's remixes. I can only hope he remixes Shadow of the Beast soundtrack someday.
I keep finding myself coming back to rewatch these videos.. you truly deserve all the praise you get from your subscribers. You are the ONLY channel i have with notification bell on. Keep it up!
Wow one of the best remixes I've ver herd awsomeeee
The guitars and bass are Shreddage products by Impact Soundworks. Very affordable and high quality stuff, highly recommended. Drums are Drumkit From Hell by Toontrack.
TANGO SECTOR
Imagine not including this in the 2015 remaster. People are so lazy sometimes.
1:08 If the Duke Nukem and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers themes had a love-child.
Hell Yeah, great observation. I wonder if it builds on you if you loved and played both games. 2:05 / 2:08 Is the start of what does it for me.
2017 and this game is still one of the most action packed, laser blasting, ass whooping games I ever played 10/10
3:58 is honestly the most underrated part of this entire track. Bravo Wave 2 for life, yo.
Bravo 1 and 2 are my favourites!
I hope you're well, @hackn001.
This is one of the most righteous remixes of one of the most righteous game soundtracks. Raptor is awesome. Fire this thing up and fly any video game fighter craft.
I'm just now finding this, I'm so happy about it. This was my favorite PC game as a child and man, absolutely absurd. I dunno if you'll ever see this and I don't usually make requests of musicians but you should look into The Journeyman Project by Sanctuary Woods, all 3 games had some amazing music in them.
Thanks for the tip!
Great sound and feel.
I like the way that acoustic sounds are mixed with electronic gives amazing energy!
Reminds me a bit of Dream Theater!
same for me. feels like listening to dream theater.
Excellent. Superb. Flawless Victory.
this track starts out as "yeah!" then slowly morphs into "oh yeah!" and quickly develops into "HELL FUKKEN YEAH!"
Deeeeeeewd! How f@cking awesome is this remix. I still play Raptor with dosbox as a timewaster. Well done man.

The tears... they won't stop...
are you really feeling it?
They probably do. I know I do. '94 man. A piece of my childhood alongside Tubular Worlds, OverKill, OMF2097, Zone66, Tyrian, and many great ones.
Omg Zone66, I remember when my uncle got that on a set of Floppy disks and ended up giving it to me... so much fun, and the music was so great. Such a challenging game but so rewarding in just the right ways.
Dave Smolanowicz Music by Kenny Chou who also did OMF2097's tracks.

The rendition of "Death" is absolute music mastery.
Holy shit, this is badass.
WOW am I glad to be alive to hear this.
Even though I'm 10 years late. Lol
This EASILY could've been a submission for OcRemix!
Maybe. I might actually just remaster this whole thing and possibly add more stuff to it, 'cause whenever I go back to listen to it the shoddy mixing makes me explode.
yes please, I've had this on loop for seven years and need something fresh.
@@Hebdomad7 ... i respect it
I liked this so much I made my own version with a fixed frequency response from the bandcamp FLAC, it doesn't even need to be remixed just a corrective spectrum filter curve and it sounds great. I suspect most of the 'issue' was mastering on cheaper speakers/headphones at the time which is easy to reverse out of the audio.
I would never be able to play RCOTS to this music... I start rocking out to hard (headbanging, air drumming, etc) to sit and play the game.
Such glory never have I heard til this day! To you sir, I tip my hat deeply. In other words well done, this is awesome indeed!
I have to say .. this is the best thing I've heard in years. Would you consider doing other games from the DOS era like One Must Fall? Zone 66? DooM? .. I would love to hear your rendition of those classics.
I've never played Zone 66 and there's already tons of awesome Doom material out there, but OMF is something I've actually already tried - and failed - to remix before.
It'll probably happen eventually. I played that game a lot as a kid, and the main theme is incredible.
Nice .. I would love to hear your rendition of OMF if/when you make it. I particularly liked both the main theme and power plant stage music from that game. Did you ever play Terminal Velocity? I think that's another lesser known dos era game with good music, especially the title and first stage songs.
Dark Tenka Yep, played Terminal Velocity, and yeah, it absolutely has some awesome tunes.
Zone 66 had one of the best soundtracks of all time
Zone 66 had AWESOME music.
Dat 1:48 doe.

Anyways, don't know why I haven't left a Like yet ... lemme fix that
Awww, yeah. I damn near shat my pants when I saw the RotT reveal trailer. Regardless of whether it's going to be an actually good game, the entire soundtrack arranged into metal alone makes it a day 1 buy for me. I actually have a couple of RotT arranges sitting around myself - in very much the same style as the soundtrack in the new game - but they're not all that great compared to the originals unfortunately.
Raptor's soundtrack is my favorite in all games and you gave him second life!
Here because I played and loved the game in the 90's. Stayed for the great renditions. Couple of moments remind me of a swedish band called KPist. Anyone who likes this may enjoy them. I say this not because I think this is derivative, but kpist combine videogame music with heavy rock, so there is going to be some natural sonic similarities.
This is some of your best work, top quality.
Oh my god this is so good. Could you do a full version of the song that starts at 4:14? I think it's bravo sector two.
Liked and subscribed!!
Just spent a good hour archiving songs and whatnot and pressed upload. Every single upload failed. Yeah, not doing that again.
Pure awesomeness. Brings back good memories in a refreshing new way.

Truly awesome rendition. I especially love the hangar track.
It would be even better if you could please make full remixes of each of these tracks individually.
Please upload to your channel on Spotify, along with all your other tracks. As of now, only one track is there.

Sure. Can't anyone do that though? I'll go check it out.
1:49 Level 1 :D!
I first heard about this game in an eGames collection on CDrom back in 2002. Don't ask me how it got featured on there, cause I don't know.
Hey yall just checkin bak in to say i made an rc foam Version of that sexy ass fighter . twin 70 mm 12 bladed ducted fans ..its a bullet for sure
Last track has a bit of a Macross feel to it. This is amazing, used to love this game.
Aaah, the sort of Enter Sandman/Game Over music at the end is amazing!
Everything I post here is downloadable from my soundcloud account. I should probably start putting the link to it in my video descriptions...
This game deserves a reboot.

probably drop d but don't quote me on that since I'm a super fake guitarist

I always thought of this song as the theme to raptor
+Scott Host hahaha that's more than a little flattering
+Stone McKnuckle I sent this to matt the raptor music guy he loves it

+Scott Host I wanted to make an RPG ... why I added store to Raptor . long story
Holy shit! Best harmonics I ever heard! Please more with delay!
i think rott will be great. it looks and plays like a golden age fps. the alpha build gameplay footage kinda makes it look like ut3 but im sure they'll rectify that. anyways, you should post RotT arranges too. its only fitting now that rott is coming back.
with apogee and interceptor finally releasing a new rott, hopefully more reboots of apogee games will be coming in the near future, with this game being in the top of the list...
You should have included a link to buy the game too - you know, for those not in the know about Good Old Games

This might be a stupid question, but do you actually record the guitars, or are those "artificial" as well?

Hello McKnuckle. It seems my first comment to your works regarding Shadow of the Beast soundtrack was here in this video 7 years ago. Seven. Whole. Years.
I keep coming back to your work when I code. I need something familiar, without lyrics, to lubricate the gears of my mind when delve deep into the code.
This one in particular is my favorite amongst your work. YET.
Still waiting for your opus magnum, which I hope you'll find in SotB.
I hope you are fine, and may you find your muse always.
My uploads are so scarce I unwittingly forced you to return 7 years to the past? I feel guilty.
I always thought that the music from Raptor was far too gentle and slow-paced for such a frantic game... and you have corrected this in the most spectacular way! Is this all digital?
Intriguing news about a sequel from Scott Host below, as well :)
DavidXNewton Yeah, all of this is digital.
DavidXNewton hey at the time .. it was da shit, a sequel is in the makings .. beware of a fake
I had a lot of fun with the shareware version years and years ago - that's fantastic news about a sequel, I'll be watching!

the way you read the mouse in windows is a bit different then old dos days when you had direct control of hardware .. it is same math and programing as in the raptor dos programing .. latest DotEmu release has a tweeked control fix ( also disable any windows mouse acceleration )
As for soundtrack ... I was always into electronic sound .. but the original music guy Matt said he is in for doing songs for rap 2 ... he is more of a guitar guy and I more of a keyboard guy ..
Just a matter of getting it done now ...

kickass man. That brings back so many memories.
Also, any chance you can release tabs for this?

Finger positions are pretty screwed up, none of the bends or palm mutes are included, and all the notes that fall down to drop D tuning are mysteriously missing. It should be a massive help regardless if you actually want to learn how to play this.

I'm a fan of Bobby Prince, so it's not impossible. I've gone and gotten myself a huge backlog thanks to the computer crash, so I definitely won't make any promises, but I'll keep it in mind. I may not have been a fan of the original Duke, but I played a lot of Duke2 and Duke3D back in the day. ;>
