I love the way FDAY_D sounds in Adlib. The MIDI or remastered version don't do justice on it. (Because I can't find this song anywhere on the internet except for on here)
Damn this takes me back. There's just something great about how the tracks are so simple, yet still manage to capture the fairly melancholy mood of the game.
I "accidentally" passed by this video today. I'm gonna start a new game tomorrow just because of that eerie feeling this game delivers.. haunting; but it beckons me to play it.
I got this game back in 97 when I was working at an IT shop for holiday funds at age 15. In my country no one would buy it cause of lack of translation so I got it 4 free. Still have the box in my room! Great art. Boy, what did they miss! What can I say...it blew me away. Still play it occassionally to this day. And the music sounded like this all the way on my crap pc! Marvellous Adlib FM magic. Thanks for the nostalgic upload!
Great stuff! So somber and sparse. When I think of medieval art and all that other stuff (what were peoples' minds back then? when random shit just happened and the world would surely stay unchanged after you died?), there's a surrealism there and I regard adlib as being on a similar plane. Hahaha. You put up some clever stuff pertaining to a 20 year old game. Glad I subscribed.
is it possible for you to upload these Adlib versions of these MIDI files? I have a adlib synth I use, and id love to listen to these as I work with opl2 and opl3.
The daggerfall setup uses, well, a "different" kind of sound, if you know what i mean, but I really love these ones in your video. Is there a way to change the "sound" of the songs, but without having to install daggerfall through dosbox (I prefer to use the unnoficial patches and etc)?
You have to run the setup.exe file located in the game's top directory. From there you can change the music card to Sound Blaster 16 so that it will sound like it does in the video.
numidium3 Well, looks like I can't open the file :/. If I try to open it normally, it says that my computer (windows 8.1) can't open the program, and I need to find a version for my PC (I tried compatibility mode, but the same error appears). However, If I try to open the program with Admin mode, it says that my file isn't in my computer, like "Windows couldn't find the xxx/xxxx/xxxx/xxx/SETUP.EXE" for instance .
Defiler Hmm, well there is one way to bypass the setup file completely. Copy this text to notepad and save it to the daggerfall folder as hmiset.cfg. If it asks you to overwrite, click yes, but I recommend that you make a backup of the old one. [DIGITAL] DeviceName = Sound Blaster 16/AWE32 DeviceIRQ = 7 DeviceDMA = 1 DevicePort = 0x220 DeviceID = 0xe016 [MIDI] DeviceName = Sound Blaster 16 DevicePort = 0x388 DeviceID = 0xa009
numidium3 Thank you a lot, my only doubt is, will this conlift with my existing save files? Because i played with them using the "original" sound of the daggerfall setup.
so for me, when i set up daggerfall to use the different sound cards such as soundblaster16, roland, etc, it seems to play different songs in the game, and it likes to leave out some of my favorites. i prefer the older soundblaster sound, but i do want to hear the entire soundtrack when i play, especially the shop or store theme, the tavern songs that were from arena, and the oversnow song. does anybody know which card plays the most or all of the soundtrack? is there a soundblaster version that plays all the songs?
ok so yeah, after listening through this it's missing some of the songs i like. is it a different set of music files in the game directory to be picked up by different sound cards? i wonder if that's the case..
I do not play with Adlib because sometimes some sounds continue sounding even when they had to stop and that is annoying. So I play with the other sound card, Roland or something like that.
As soon as this plays my mind is refreshed by the purity of adlib. It has a calming effect on me.

Sounds like Sega genesis and amazing. They should have redid these with Skyrim(oh here comes a dragon again)borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring.

So melancholy and a little bit unsettling. I love it.

I've started playing Daggerfall again a couple of months ago. The magic is still there!!!
My first install of Daggerfall had these tracks, so this is what sounds correct to my ears. Appreciate the upload.
"HALT! HALT!"

30:02 "VEEEEEEEEEENGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEANCE"
As lo-fi as adlib is, this is really relaxing to listen to
Except for the shop theme which is completely insufferable
there also is one part that kinda adds in a tone because its wonky, cant remember the part but it shrieks!souns like there sustain on it like a mofo

I'm back three years later and still adore this. FDAY, tho.
This brings me back to the first pc we had daggerfall installed on
This is brilliant! Thank you for this man.
Actually pretty good for orchestral Adlib
3:00 magnificent.
It's surprisingly hard to find Daggerfall music without remastered HQ nonsense that half the time sounds just like poor instrument swaps.
+Enmoku or its in MIDI which sounds better than adlib garbage
OH, HELLO THERE I've yet to find it in MIDI format in RUclips without people using custom soundbanks to make it "better".
Disagreed. AdLib is a great tribute to 1970's style use of synthesizers.
is it possible for you to upload these Adlib versions of these MIDI files? I have a adlib synth I use, and id love to listen to these as I work with opl2 and opl3.
overcast is the best song of all time
Idk what this is, but... It's kinda hot :0
31:59 this one just sounds doofy as hell
the very first track almost has Ecco the Dolphin vibes, for some reason. Pretty cool stuff.
is it just me or does 08FM sound like it needs some work? like it sounds broken for some reason
23FM is my jam

I see you are a man of culture

Thanks, man!
Excuse the gloom...
Funny to me how the lower quality chips just use Arena's dungeon music verbatim
FANTASTIC. Thank you!

Cheers dude! Thanks!
For some reason this really reminds me of Runescape lol
