    See we know there's a difference between having clever jokes that have to do with dark or controversial subject matter and saying the most offensive thing you can think of for attention as though you are a middle schooler trying to impress your friends with the bad words you know.

    • @ct5625
      @ct5625 3 месяца назад +27

      Yeah, saying something that's uncomfortable and turning it into something funny is not the same as, say, Kevin Hart admitting on stage that if his son came out as gay he would beat him, and backing up that "joke" with a litany of homophobic tweets, a confession that he DID beat his son, and stating in an interview when asked about that "joke" that he wouldn't tell it today, not because he recognized that it's abhorrent and child abuse, but because the audience is "too sensitive".
      There is a BIG difference between a talented comedian masking the negative with humor, and a violent abuser using their "comedy" as an excuse to perpetuate hate and violence against others.

    • @SmickyD
      @SmickyD 3 месяца назад +3

      @@ct5625 nope.. a joke is a joke no matter what the words. If it's in the context of stand-up comedy it is a joke. That's it. The end.

      @@SmickyD You miss the part about it NOT BEING IN THE CONTEXT OF STAND-UP COMEDY.
      You should read the whole comment, and take note of the homophobic tweets, the admission of beating his son in an interview, and the confession that he didn't think this was wrong.
      That's not "in the context of comedy", that's in the context of the way he thinks and acts.

    Or you can just say "venligst" like "kindly", such as "kan du venligst flytte?" which is "could you kindly move?". In English, 'please' is just another way of saying "kindly", so essentially, there is a Danish word for please, it just doesn't translate the same exact way.

    Someone will always find some reason to be offended no matter how much you self censor. Keep staying true to your art. You have to gently test the limits to find them as they are always in a state of flux in the comedy world. What was cancelled or kept from large public consumption 40 years ago is now mainstream and the pendulum is always swinging. Don’t worry about trying to hit a moving target, as long as you don’t do anything you do mean spirited with the intent to offend. I feel a shift coming. Your comedy is great, keep your cool when heckled, and you’re insanely clever in both settings. Love it, keep it up!

    You should tour South Africa man. Your jokes will be hit here the same way they did in the Netherlands. People here are open and love to laugh about life. I myself am disabled and I use my disability to entertain myself and those around me. Kinda like you. You're just way better at it. Love watching your stuff. Keep it up good man :)

    Way to go Drew! Love your work ❤! I'm a guy with a pretty broad sense of humor. And I'm of the belief that all humor is supposed to be subjective to some degree and that it's not supposed to be taken seriously. To that end, there are a few things I know I don't find funny and things I know I won't laugh at. But in the spirit of comedy, I never take anything personally because then that defeats the purpose of me trying to enjoy comedy. Unfortunately not everyone believes the same things I do and that's ok. I just feel like people that take jokes personally need to practice governing their emotions and reactions a bit better so as not to ruin everyone else's fun.

    I didn't understand number four, but overall I didn't find these jokes offensive. I think some of them tread a fine line, but hey whatever. I'm leaving number 6 up to the lesbians

    • @Spiderwolfer
      @Spiderwolfer 3 месяца назад +3

      I think 4 was the weakest but it was still pretty funny. To really break it down the joke is that to get that fat you’d have to spend 100k or to fully transition would also cost 100k. I think what makes it weak is that by saying “there’s 2 ways to spend 100k” makes it seem like maybe he was talking about how it’s hard to spend 100k but that context wasn’t shown in the clip if it exists. It makes the punch line seem a little rushed. Also I don’t know how much the area in Europe he was in understands the local politics of the states. For example he mentioned the states but without knowing that Alabama has the incest joke reputation or Texas being very politically conservative or Florida being batshit crazy I don’t think it has the same impact. I’m Canadian and even for me the connotations to the states was enough to be implied in the joke but I think if you knew the states first hand it would be much much funnier. I honestly think it would’ve been a joke funnier to Americans as they could probably relate to it. The rest were bangers though.

    None of those jokes were 'harsh' in the slightest imho. In general, the line sits waaaay further away than that for Europe. We can handle quite a lot and are far less sensitive in that perspective. Europeans are in general very chill and also very self-conscious and usually have a very good ability to put things into perspective.
    eg. If you look up Belgium stand-up comedians like Alex Agnew, (also performs in English btw) he often touches that imaginary line, yet fills big venues as big as a concert arena time after time.
    Another famous Belgium comedian is Philippe Geubels. He has a completely other style than Alex, but he too can be very hard. And again, is very successful in the low lands (Belgium, Netherlands, ...).
    Yet another complete different style is Geert Hoste. Another famous big comedian. He too is often very hard but in a far more subtle way.
    Your humor, as depicted in these examples at least, is extremely soft in comparison. Which isn't a bad thing though!!! Different people like different things. But it would be no problem at all to make it A LOT harder, if that is your cup of tea at least.
    Bottom line: you really should not be afraid to 'offend' Europeans. They can handle A LOT. So, when doing skits in Europe, no need to cut jokes just for the sake of being too aggressive, offending or harsh 😉

    I heard the first joke and chuckled. I literally forgot what the video was about so I was surprised about the sudden cut. Then I remembered and I'm once again baffled by the fact that Americans think they have more freedom of speech. I've heard jokes on shows that went way further over the line and they just caused more laughter than less offensive jokes.
