      He honed his craft in the Glasgow shipyard’s where some larger than life characters had so much untapped humor, and Billy saw a chance and took it. The stories he tells seem far fetched but extremely funny, no one’s safe from the razor wit of his genius. I don’t think he’ll ever tour again but we must respect his health, he couldn’t have the stamina he once had. It’s a long evening on stage alone at his age, a glimpse of him now and again being interviewed certainly fulfills my needs, because you know he won’t do it straight, it’s in his blood. Keep on keeping on Big Yin, you’re the tops❤️❤️🕊️🕊️🕊️👍

    My Dad told us he knew Billy from school and from the pubs in an area of Glasgow called Partick and me & my brother were like yeah yeah... Until one day we were sitting with my Dad in the Smiddy bad in Partick and in walks said Mr Connolly. He spies my father and greets him and my Dad nods and says hello back. You've never seen 2 sons eat such humble pie in ur life.😂

    Years ago, ironically in Glasgow (I'm a proud fellow countryman of Billy's) a car once told me to respect its personal space. In shock, I actually said "pardon?". And found myself having a conversation with a car, from a place of inferiority. Until the owner came out and screamed for me to get away. I replied "WE WERE HAVING A CHAT!"

    I love Billy Connolly - Can't help remembering two people who were crushed to death though, a local woman crushed by a big wagon reversing - she pushed her baby's pram out of the way in time but she was trapped - and a 7 or 8 year old kid when I was that age got run over by a bus reversing at the bus station so after that someone had to watch the buses reversing from behind (so they got run over instead I guess lol) I thought they would have CAMERA'S instead of loud warning noises.

  • @stephenhodgson3506
    @stephenhodgson3506 Год назад +1

    I think political correctness began when 'No Win. No Fee' lawyers came to the fore. People began to fear getting sued for the most trivial thing and so companies and people began to introduce things in an effort to ensure they didn't get sued or threatened with legal action. As companies introduced new 'safety' features the lawyers just went a step further and the implied thought of getting sued just made companies and people spiral down. The fact that you get a packet of nuts with the warning 'May contain nuts', shows just how far it has gone. It didn't take lawyers too long to realise they could then start litigation procedure for hurt feelings.

    • @irbennett
      @irbennett Месяц назад

      My first experience with political correctness was at school when it was decided that white chalk on a blackboard was racist, which is bollocks. The name was changed to chalkboard accordingly. Also the introduction of the word chairperson, even though you had chairmen and chairwomen. Nobody was consulted about any of them.

    • @stephenhodgson3506
      @stephenhodgson3506 29 дней назад

      @@irbennett I remember a case a few years ago when a customer accidently spilt hot coffee on herself at a McDonalds restaurant and sued because she and her lawyers claimed it was too hot. She won and it cost McDonalds a fortune. After that everybody got scared, not only out of a fear of compensation pay outs but also the cost of litigation so they sought to do damage limitation to prevent it even happening. So then the stupidity kicked in with everybody thinking of whatever possibility there could be for getting sued.
      Her lawyers knew that if they got he case before a jury then they would win because every member of the jury could relate to it happening to them and if it did they too would want a substantial payoff. I'm actually shocked that somebody has not sued a company for their coffee being too cold.
      It should not be called political correctness because in reality it has nothing to do with politics but rather fear of litigation. Maybe if it was renamed protection against frivolous lawsuits, not only would people see the cause but it might make people think twice about where their anger should be directed.

    in 2021 nearly a quarter of all deaths involving Workplace transport occur during reversing. Many other reversing accidents do not result in injury but cause costly damage to vehicles, equipment and premises. The numbers before the reversing alarms are not known but lives saved are in the thousands. However since the 90's pedestrians had become so used to the ‘beep-beep’ sound of reversing alarms that they were often ignored. It was also discovered that drivers tended to lose the perception of responsibility for being vigilant behind the wheel, relying too heavily on their alarms for avoiding collisions. New less annoying sounds that carry less far are being explored.
