Sasha was 1st, Arakawa came 2nd, and M.Kwan was 3rd... When she stayed clean, she was unbeatable! But champion or not, she was a beauty in this sport. Almost no world campion can match her beautiful style in skating. Her spirals, and spins were out of this world.
And if you look at the Russian girls post-Irina Slutskaya it's pretty obvious all of them were patterned after Sasha Cohen. Unfortunately, no skater after her has had the same exquisite lines as she did. None can even hold a basic and correct layback position or a non-COE arabesque spiral like Sasha did these days even with all the flexibility they have which is kinda weird.
It's a real tragedy that she didn't skate with this consistency more often, because this type of talent deserves to be rewarded with many world and Olympic gold medals. Her amazing gift is that, even with mistakes, she STILL can pull you in. That is so rare with skaters.
Well said. And, I agree, even after all of these years. I STILL love to watch her many programs, and repeatedly! I can't say that about very many figure skaters, even those who have won gold metals. And I've been watching skating for years and years.
I was lucky enough to see this in person. It was an incredible performance. I wish she could have pulled off performances like this when they really counted.
Wow, you're so lucky to have seen her in person. This was absolute perfection! There's no one who could match her iconic spiral sequences, scratch spins, and pure artistry. ❤
I thought Robin seemed very nervous, and that was how the nervousness manifested. That being said, it also seemed as if that was her personal style, that she was 100% all in, and very much FOR her coached athlete. Nothing wrong w that! She's someone I'd def want in my corner, I think!!
I really think I have found my figure skating soul mate! It's so great reading your comments and insight about this beautiful sport. I don't know why Cohen always had glitches in her skating; some say she was too wrapped up in being perfect, others say her edges weren't as strong and solid as, say Kwan (which is true). Like I've said, if you could combine Cohen's spins and flexibility with Kwan's consistency and fire you'd literally have the perfect skater. Cheers from America :)
so what if she chokes...nobody can sill match the beauty and artistry she has and how perfect she is when she does all these techniques/elements in skating...and this program just goes to show that she is unbeatable and is the best when she doesn't make a mistake and skate a clean program...
killin' moves!!! both of those triple salchows r fantastic! and i cant find anythin' wrog in the combination spin, my favourite is the layback spin! but her split jupm and charlotte spiral r not as good as usual...
Why on earth couldn't she do this more frequently?! I mean, wow! The choreography is incredible, the jumps are exactly with the music, the spiral works with the music as do the spins. SUCH a shame... I know I shouldn't say this but she was a bit of a wasted talent (I know others will disagree) but 2006 Olympic Gold was hers for the taking...
Eddie Rivera A victory is a victory!!! Regardless whether it is a home event or international. After this event Kwan was 3rd at Worlds and then....Before this, Slutskaya and Hughes kicked Kwan's ass at Worlds and Olympics!!!!
Ok, lol, a win is not a win sorry. yes, Sarah kicked ass at the OLYMPICS, lol, but just 1 event. And Sluts and Kwan kicked each other's ass all the time, however, we are not talking about that because each won a MAJOR title, not a fluff comp...

her skating speaks for itself, she was the best!

Her spirals are legendary! And such amazing musicality 💖
Swan lake should have been her 2006 olympic LP
yep. The most elegant program of her career. Just stunning!
Dick Button's reaction of "Oh Golly Gee!" at the end kills me 😂
when shes on like this shes unbeatable :D
amazing!!!
YES! One of the CLEAN programs Sasha ever did!!!!1
How to put the biggest smile on somebody's face (by watching that) Thanks for sharing :-)

that spin at the end was awsome

This wasn't the only time. And even if it was, so what? Her splits, her scratch spins, her spiral sequences..absolutely iconic!

Fantastic! Perfect.

amazing spins.
perfect !!~ wooww !
This event is proof that the only thing Sasha needed to beat world and/or Olympic champions and reclaim her own was to stay on her feet.
Robin is so touchy freely as coach! She is over the top affectionate. She is all up in Sashas personal space. Dayum!

it looks cool when you press 7.
i love sasha cohen
Hey Everyone . This is stunning . Thanks everyone.
The only time Sasha got perfect 6.0s was when she was with Robin Wagner. Under her tutelage, Sasha was at her most exquisite and refined.

I love the sound her blade makes at 0:26.

Wasted? She's such an inspiration for so many! Her footwork and spirals are mesmerizing. Sasha is a legend.
press 7 to start the best part of it :D
The only two times Sasha beat Michelle Kwan in competition for 1st place, she did it convincingly!!!
When was the second time? I know of this one.
Eddie Rivera This one is actually the second one!!! The first time was at that season's 2003 Campbells. Thanks.
lol, meh, lol, it really means nothing. When you can beat a legend at a MAJOR event...then you have room to gloat or celebrate...
