    Adele's voice has a lot of power and clarity, even with the damage she has sustained. The quality of her voice works for the style of music she performs.

    Btw that performance is from 2016, not from 2020
    The 2020 one is from a gig on SNL from last October

    To put this into perspective there's 2011 Brit awards and the recent one is from Adele's 2016 -17 world tour

    First of all the second clip is from 2016 not 2020, all you had to do was check the date.
    It’s from her tour where the song is in the end and she has already been singing for almost 2 hours.
    The 2011 is literally a month before she went into surgery her vocal chords were literally bleeding in the first clip.
    So it’s very funny that she herself said she was hurting while singing and you’re like “omg it’s so effortless”
    Well you shouldn’t be surprised that she doesn’t do the don’t forget me part cause she literally never does it like the studio live (she’s done it like 10 times live sand all after her surgery all in 2016 so none before when for you it was better) she has said she doesn’t like how that sounds.
    Lastly the Someone Like You singalong is the only time during her show she lets the crowd sing cause they pretty much sing along with her during the entire song.
    She’s more expensive in the first clip cause it was a televised awards show performance to promote the song. The 2016 one she’s already sang the song 200+ times by now and it’s more for the people.
    After her surgery she said she can sing higher that’s why her last album has higher notes.
    Also the last part you couldn’t be more wrong since Adele has released 2 albums in the last 10 years and only did one tour in 2016. She’s literally not the one to get sucked into this for the fame she’s literally been away for 6 years now so yeah.
    Anyways there is a 2020 clip you could have reacted but it’s a skit so I say we’d rather wait for her to come back properly and react then

      First of all, I’m a huge Daydreamer but you need to stop being so defensive. This woman is just giving her opinion. Secondly her vocal cords were not “literally” bleeding during the VMAs, if they were she would’ve needed surgery a lot sooner. The VMAs were in August 2011 and her surgery wasn’t until around October.
      It’s obvious that singing this song was much easier for Adele back then even compared to SNL and Adele doesn’t have great technique and sometimes sings from her stomach as Adele has said which can be part of why she has had vocal damage twice. Adele still sounds great but you need to understand people are gonna have their own opinions.

    • @ellieg91
      @ellieg91 3 года назад +1

      @@_NickRyan_ which she did need surgery earlier but didn’t bc they had to do the promo spots she literally said so herself?
      I’m not being defensive I’m pointing out mistakes in dates and actual things that are said in the video that are wrong.
      Lastly snl shouldn’t be the one y’all are judging on... and again if you were a massive daydreamer you’d know that tone was the closest to 2011 Adele. Anyways ...

    • @_NickRyan_
      @_NickRyan_ 3 года назад

      @@ellieg91 She definitely should’ve rested sooner but still her vocals cords weren’t bleeding at the VMAs. What does her tone in the SNL skit have to do with the point I’m making or being a daydreamer, those two points aren’t correlated. 😄
      I’m saying it doesn’t sound as effortless as it was in 2011, and sounds more forced. But obviously sounds great nonetheless.

  • @vertigo0105

    Why would you say "she's a little sharp here, but it's live". Sharp is good, regardless of live or not. Flat is not good, but sharp is. Autotuning sharp vocals on recording is wrong...leave the sharp note in, they sound more natural and have more feel. Notes that are perfect pitch aren't always best and can sometimes lose the feel of the vocal.
    You are saying she has more breathiness in the 2020 vocal, yet the 2011 and 2020 vocals are completely different sound systems, EQ'ing, mics, etc. The highs in the breathy frequencies are not coming through in the 2011 vocal, likely due to the mic and lack of proper EQ'ing. The 2020 has a lot more highs EQ'd up in the breath frequencies, so this is like comparing apples to oranges betweeen these vocals. Some of the things you are saying may be more due to the sound systems than the way she is singing.
    Also you have it wrong. The 2011 vocal is at her peak of vocal damage (just prior to having surgery) and the 2020 is long after the surgery when she has healed...you seem to have that backwards.
    Singers (live) don't just stop singing and have the audience sing (while holding the mic out to them) because they are resting their vocals. Maybe sometimes, but often it's to engage the audience's participation and interact. Freddy Mercury and others did this all the time...
    You mentioned again over 3/4 way through, she's sharp (as if that's a bad thing), but then so many seconds later she is slightly flat and you didn't say anything. Flat is bad!!! Sharp is often good...

    I can definately hear the difference in her voice. That being said, power singing in over 200 concerts a year for 8 years will have an effect on most singers.
    I prefer to just do 10 concerts a year.

    Thank you, Freya. You're helpful and inspiring as always. Maybe you'll find it interesting to analyze Lera Lynn sometime. I think she's an amazing musician, and her last album "On My Own" is pure art. Before this album she tended to sing pretty low all the time, but now she explores the upper part of her range, and she doesn't sound perfect (I'm not sure whether the breathiness is always intentional, and I can notice some strain), but she sounds so authentic. In her case high pitches are not used to showcase that she can sing high pitches - they are used to support the message of the song, to express the emotions better. My favourite example is this video ruclips.net/video/uZXHOfAN_-M/видео.html from 6:55 (What I'm Looking For)

    Hello Freya, I would like you analyze and react to Diana Navarro´s voice and her song (”El perdón” - The Forgiveness) ruclips.net/video/PaYwXNyIeOc/видео.html, the official video clip is a master piece. It is indescribable how much pain and emotion, she transmits in the video. Her voice and expression pierces your chest and reaches your heart.
    Diana is amazing and quite versatile in music. She is versatile and a master of La Copla, Flamenco and Saeta Spanish genres. Could you react to any of her songs? "Adiós" audio ruclips.net/video/jKadgEgyqok/видео.html, “Cuplerías” Gala de los premios Ceres 2012 ruclips.net/video/emaHE1vU4dk/видео.html and Romance de la otra" (Plácido Domingo´s tribute concert) ruclips.net/video/Xz4egeUgeFk/видео.html. It's hard to say these things because I love Adele. But yes, it was evident more in the 2020 one then in the 2011 one that there was a lot of problems. I definitely think having a voice teacher she'd work with regularly would help. She does have a beautiful, clear tone, but it's just from not having regular coaching on her instrument that I think has caused the problems.

    I don't feel adele's singing, it's too mannered, too placed. You can see she is placing each note in her head before singing it. Sometimes you see her fingers place the notes too in the air. It's not effortless or easy going. So much training that it shows. If you compare her to effortless Aretha Franklin or Whitney who make it look effortless and easy going. What do you think of the legendary Lebenese singer Fairouz? One of biggest selling artists in the world. What makes her so special? What kind of voice does she have and whats her vocal style? Songs like "Saaltek Habibi" and "Nessam El Hawa" are fine examples to analize.
