Riverlea is South Australia's largest housing development, situated 32km north of the capital of the state of South Australia in the new suburb - Riverlea Park.
Riverlea is proposed to cover an area of 450 hectares and with a population of up to 40,000, with 40 hectares of waterways. Completion is expected by 2036. Some critics are concerned about the isolation from the rest of Adelaide and the threat of flooding. Many environmental factors - including the potential of flooding - and mitigation measures to deal with those factors are required to be addressed before final approvals are granted for each stage. The project was first supported by the state government in 2007.
Riverlea Park is a northern suburb of Adelaide in South Australia. It was created by excluding part of the suburb of Buckland Park in February 2022. Buckland Park is named after an early pioneer homestead in the area. Market gardening is the main activity as the soil is predominantly on the flood plain of the lower Gawler River. Buckland Park is one of the sites of the Adelaide region weather radar.
The northern boundary of Riverlea Park is the Gawler River, and its eastern boundary is Port Wakefield Road.
Riverlea Park contains a large urban housing estate under development by Walker Corporation. The main entrance is controlled by a new set of traffic lights installed on Port Wakefield Road. At the time the suburb was created, 605 lots had been sold for housing. The remaining part of Buckland Park remains predominantly rural.

Thank you, this was fascinating, I didn't realise there had already been so much construction in the area.

30/40,000 people in an area with minimal rainfall??? Its now August 24, and we will be in drought conditions this summer, no real rain this winter😢😢. But thank you for a look at the place 👍

Yes, I think the aquifer is going to get a work out - if there is any water left. No problem, thanks for watching.

Hi again. This development has to be up there for ' the ugly award'. Those plaines north of Adelaide are hot, dry and have no appeal whatsoever. The wind factor is horrendous. During a hot Adelaide summer, those houses are going to literally bake.
This site was controversial from the start.
Thanks for showing us in person.

Hello. Yep, I agree. Adelaide is scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as land suitable for large housing estates in the north of the city goes. At least it was not good farming land being built on. Also, will probably have flooding issues in the not too distant future...
      Thanks for watching.

@@bangusmashwalkingtours Funnily enough, just after I made that comment, there was a news article about how they are having to 'physically' deal with the sewerage by trucking it out !! Obviously not something they thought through/ planned adequately for.

This housing development is built in an Aboriginal burial site! Kaurna people, the traditional owners of the land. Our burial site was desecrated to give you all somewhere to live! 😣😱

I wanted to buy here, but after calling the sales office I think I'll go elsewhere, nothing for 2 months, only 30 blocks to be released, and a settlement time of up to 18 months, 17 months more than I like to wait, I can't handle another 3 years of not having a house, and not to mention all the other issues there. It looks nice but a pass, and too expensive for where it is.
