I was born in Adelaide and went on holiday to the UK at age 6, 44 years later I finally made it home. Those who are bagging Adelaide can’t have watched the video, there were places I haven’t visited in years and some I have never visited but definitely intend to. Yes we are not as big as other cities but we have a great little city and it’s one to be proud of. Thank you for reminding me how lucky I am to live here. And btw definitely a Vegemite lover, nice and thick on buttered toast, yum!

I have visited lots of tourist areas, china, vietnam, japan, singapore.. one day driving down North Terrace I was stunned at how lovely it was, the old heritage area, museum, art gallery etc, then you cross King William and its all modern.. its an amazing transformation. Light Square, Torrens river.. it really is pretty.

      I am the opposite!
I was born in England and moved to Adelaide when I was 6!
We came on a holiday here first and then moved a few months later!
I have only been back to England once but if I go back again, I want to see more than just where my family and family friends are!
I’m 24 now and there are still lots of places in the city and in South Australia in general that I haven’t been!
We are bigger than people think we are and there are so many beautiful places to explore!
I am a vegemite hater though!

Adelaide is usually known as the 20 minute city by other states because you don’t usually need to drive over an hour to our biggest tourist hotspots (wineries, hills, beaches ect). I’ve heard the name thrown around a few times and my family have been here our whole lives as well. It’s just a snappy little nickname, it’s not that serious ❤
This video was so sweet and cute, thanks for showcasing our beautiful city! You should see it during festival season! The fridge is EVERYTHING ✨

I’m from SA but have lived in Sydney a long time and I’ve never heard that. I think it is the 20 minute city because you can see the city in 20 minutes. I find in Sydney you don’t need a car, walking and public transport is a pleasure. In Adelaide you will get frustrated waiting for buses and the most original sites are hour was the city.

I think the idea of the Christmas pageant is to be all things child-orientated. The floats are mostly fairytale or child/family movie themed and there are also plenty of clowns. There are also a lot of marching bands, dancers, etc. So it's definitely not just Christmas themed floats, but it's certainly all stuff that kids love. Really gets kids hyped for summer holidays and then of course Santa at the end to realllly get kids hyped haha. :D

Best time to visit is late winter to early spring as all native vegetation will be in flower, waterfalls in full flow and koalas and roos everywhere. So, come back!

If you ever decide to come back to Adelaide, you should visit some more places outside the city. There's the Barossa which is our state's major wine region (and where I live), Monarto Zoo, Victor Harbour, ANY of our beautiful beaches (which are generally safer and less crowded than east-coast beaches like Bondi), the Coorong and the mouth of the Murray, Mt Lofty, Mt Gambier, Kangaroo Island, Wilpena Pound... and if you're willing to go a bit further I highly recommend checking out the Opal mines in Coober Pedy.

And for those who live in the city or around Adelaide, a less known fact about the Adelaide Arcade is that it's haunted but the spirit of an old security guard. And he haunts the upper floors, and if somehow get into the Arcade when it's closed, it's said he'll run from the upstairs down to you and chase you out yelling at you to leave the property immediately.
Which is interesting because there are no stairs there anymore or at least not where they used to be. Haven't been there in years myself, also the old folk know more about it.

Welcome to Adelaide! You will love it as it is the most "European feel" city in Australia. Once here, make sure you explore the beaches of Henley and Brighton and the hills at Morialta and Cleland! Also, visit Stirling, Port Adelaide, and the sugar loaf at Hallet Cove. A Sunday drive to Willunga through the McLaren Valley (maybe by hiring an electric bicycle from the visitor centre and ride on shared walking/riding path) is also a great way to explore our closest wine region. Enjoy.

Very easy to get around. Hope you can get to live close to the beach or the city. Good roads, easy parking. Everyone pretty chilled and friendly. Lots of beautiful architecture - events all year round. My favourite the Tour Down Under Cycling. Great weather although our winters can get cold (and we don't build our buildings for winter comfort so you'll probably feel colder here) - and summers can get very very hot. But in between beautiful days. Clean air, blue blue skies. Enjoy

Hi guys really enjoy your videos. Glad you’re enjoying our great country Australia. With Vegemite it is an acquired taste. Us Aussies are fed it from babies. The best way to have Vegemite is on white toast with lots of butter and a small scraping of Vegemite. The amount of Vegemite i use depends on my mood. The other great way to eat it is on a cheese toasted sandwich.

The Christmas Pageant is a South Australian icon. Taken from a recent newspaper article about a book, written about the now-defunct department store that originally hosted it (and the family who opened the store), "They opened the first Magic Cave in 1896 and launched the Christmas Pageant in 1933, as a way to lift people’s spirits during the Great Depression". It's generally held on the second Saturday in November, except when that's the same day as Remembrance/Armistice Day as they can't have two parades at once. It was never a tradition in my family, but some make a big thing out of going every year. I guess the non-Christmas floats are supposed to remind us of childhood memories and favourite toys/gifts. They used to have brass bands marching as well, but I don't know how many of the bands still exist.

I've actually never heard of it being called the 20 min city, so you educated me on my own city lol. Christmas parades with a variety of floats is something I've always experienced so it never occurred to me that it might be weird to some people.
I find it pretty funny how Australia is huge on wine but we're more known for beer drinking.
I'm sure someone has already told you this but, meat pies have tomato sauce on them, not ketchup, they're actually different types of sauces.

    • @ireallylikecheesygarlicbread
      @ireallylikecheesygarlicbread 5 месяцев назад

It depends on the person, the traditional way to have it is a thin layer with lots of butter, some people can’t handle the saltiness more than others, plus I wouldn’t recommend foreigners lathering it on as it’s very very yeasty and strong.
      Edit: a croissant isn’t isn’t a bread, it’s a pastry
