I have the Sarb035. I love it. It has a special X factor. It seems anyone who sells their sarb regrets it. I would think the Seiko will come out on top here. There s no way Jody is getting rid of that Sarb. 😆
I bought both of these same watches ! I think the SARB is a bit “dresser” and the Tissot a bit “sportier”....so I’m keeping them both 🤪. (And we wonder why our wife’s keep saying, ....”all your watches look alike !? “ ) 😆
Dimitri Biemond I think the Tissot takes it in the jenesequoi department, at least for me,AND it’s $100 cheaper, AND it’s cosc certified, AND it’s Swiss ( though I love Seiko and have a bunch of them).
I agree, mostly because every watch from seiko I've ever owned has been horrible off in terms of accuracy. I know they're cheap watches but I've had 3 seiko 5s, all 15-20 seconds fast. I've also had a turtle that was 16 seconds fast, that's a $300+ watch. When my hamilton khaki auto is 4-5 seconds fast with a higher beat movement, frankly I expect better from Seiko. They get all the love in the watch community for sub 1k watches and while their ascetics and brand history are compelling, they just always seem behind in the movement game for the price point.
@@trevorhsu-mdh-5684 Old Seiko 5 like SNK809 or SNKL23 use some old movement that's why the poor accuracy. If you want the best use of your 80 dollars, buy NH35 Alixpress "ripoff" specials. They are much more accurate by far than seiko 5 for same dollars.
I have both watches and I agree with you in every category, except Lume. While it is true that the Seiko has a brighter Lume, it doesn't last as long through the night as the Tissot. Maybe it's because of the wider sword hands, but the Seiko lume blurs, while the Tissot's hands are still distinct after a few hours of darkness. Accuracy may not be too big of an issue for those of us who love mechanical movements, but this is where the Tissot really shines. I have a couple of PowerMatics that are consistently within +/- 3 seconds/day. Honestly, they are so accurate, it is difficult to tell if they tend Fast or Slow. My Seiko came out of the box averaging -25 sec/day. Since that is slightly out of spec, I sent it back to the factory for tweaking. It came back -4 sec/day! HOWEVER, that didn't last: after a few months the watch returned to -25 sec/day. So, if accuracy is a big deal, the PowerMatic wins hands down, if you'll pardon the pun. I agree that the Seiko dial is nicer. Those sword hands are awesome vs. the Tissot 's stick-like hands. But the Seiko bracelet, as you pointed out, is very limited in terms of adjustment. I could not get a good fit. (I saw one on sale on Ebay, and the Seller said he was selling because he couldn't get a good fit). So, I had to go for an aftermarket bracelet. The Tissot bracelet was easily adjusted for my wrist. Having both watches, I wished for a compromise: Tissot accuracy with the Seiko sword hands. And I found it! Tissot came out with a black dial PR100 with sword hands that rivals the look of the Seiko, with the "cachet" of the Tissot logo. But, I like all three watches, and interchange them frequently. I got my Tissot at a reasonable price.I own many Seikos but between those two watches the Tissot is hands down better overall if you take price out of it its like comparing an 87 honda with a 2020 Vette!
i have 4k omegas with worse finish than sarb033. ... and your statements clearly indicate that even tho you might own a couple of seikos, you dont own a sarb, so clearly you dont know what youre talking about since youve never seen it in real life. comparing sarb line with normal seikos is stupid. it should be compared to higher end presage line and lower end GS line. tissot pr 100 is not even in the same ballpark. as for your analogy - the true statement would be - sarb 033 is a 69 mustang. iconic design with iconic style, high quality and cultural importance and on ok engine. tissot pr 100 is a 2019 audi A4.... nothing iconic and special about it. it goes fast , costs alot of money and it also looks nice. but nobody will ever say - damn that audi a4 2019 really was something. ... its just a car. a nice car but theres nothing special about it and it will be replaced with 2020 model as soon as possible... everyone would still love to have a 69 mustang.. i rest my case. you do you

I have hundreds of watches spanning all price ranges and i can say with absolute confidence my sarb033 is not the best finished watch i own. i have mico-brands with better quality control. Seiko is notorious for quality control issues. You may have " the one" thats ok. I have 3 skx's and all have misaligned chapter rings. I love Seiko but to say they are better finished than an omega or even a entry level swiss piece like tissot is nonsense. i love seiko dive watches but i wouldnt buy another dress watch from them.
I will second that I like the sarb more, I just I could get one for the price they were going for 3 or 4 years ago. They were half the price they're going for now. At $275-350 this watch was amazing. I don't think they're quite the value now that they're going to 500-700
Let me start by saying I am a big fan of SEIKO. I own an SKX007, a Monster, 2 Turtles, 2 Samurais, a Sumo, a solar PADI, and a Velatura Yacht Timer. I owned a SARB for a short period and sold it. I own 1 Tissot PR-100 with the PowerMatic 80 COSC movement. I think Tissot has more brand cache than SEIKO in most people's eyes, not that I give a rat's ass what people think of my watches. Most people don't know the difference between quartz and automatic. I think the Tissot, in this case, is a little more dressy and sleeve comfortable than the SARB. The Tissot is a little more "minimalistic" in its design. Some people like that approach. As for lume, no one beats SEIKO. But to my eyes, it was pretty even in the test here. Although the Tissot has much less lume, they disappeared at about the same time. I have to disagree with the bracelet evaluation. The Tissot (at least mine) has no rattle to it and is very solid. I don't really get the dislike of the stamped clasp. Once it is on my wrist, I don't feel it. And we all know that most SEIKOs use stamped clasps, too. Now do an Oceanus review!
As much as SARB033 is a brilliant watch, PR100 COSC Automatic wins. Its COSC certification, Powermatic movement with 80hr power reserve, and Swiss build quality at a cheaper price (especially due to SARB's inflated price) are too significant to ignore. PR100 white/silver dial version with an alligator leather strap can comfortably hang with the dress watches that are more expensive by multifold.
Swiss build quality... with stamped clasp? and rattling bracelet? Knowing global corporations, I bet you about 40% of that watch was made in China. lol
@@PT111111 Yes, it's true that PR100's bracelet is of a lower quality. However, the importance of a watch is more on the watch itself, not the band. The band can be easily be replaced, and often for the better and cheaper. Furthermore, there's often disproportionate quality differences between watches and bands they come with. Therefore, watch purchases should prioritize more on the quality of the watch itself, not the band it comes with.
@@PawsleyDirt That's definitely one of the biggest shortcoming of its design. It's especially odd because Tissot have done a circular date cutoff before. However, it's likely to be a cost saving measure of production because the non-COSC variant also has a rectangle cutout. The reasoning is also likely for the same bottom text between automatic and quartz COSC variants, when the automatic COSC could've had "PR100, Chronometer, Powermatic 80" instead.
I’ve owned both Omega & Tissot. I have to say my tissot prs516 holds just as well as the Omega Semaster. Great value in the watch world to be had in tissot. Swiss watchmaking is second to none.
Tissot all day long. Once I see less than 3 microadjustments I move on. Tissot more versatile and COSC swiss made adds some credence. Finally, if mon-fri watch no reset for Tissot on Monday.

Good video Judy! I'd go for Tissot as a brand, got a powermatic 80 seastar 1000. Swiss made usually worth the extra in this case. Not sure how much they were at the time but $450 AUD now. Lose and squeaky Reminds me of the Pagani designs stainless steel but they are good for the price. The Tissot Gentleman would be better for a bit more cash
COSC certified under $300 is a rare find. One cannot expect that. I bought both of the SARB’ds in this video (and a few more), but sold them all. Good watches, all of them.
This comparison is a perfect example of how better specs on paper don't necessarily translate to a better watch. I've had the SARB035 for one year, and it's such an alluring watch. I have tried on the Tissot PR100 and it didn't speak to me, I find it very dull. I suggest you take a look at Orient Star, great proposition at a similar price point! I have one and quality wise it trumps both of these.
Thanks for the video, I went ahead and bought the Tissot with a white dial and gold accents. I think it looks way better than the black dial. #1 reason has to be the movement and the COSC certification.
Spot on with this comparison! I have both of these watches and knew exactly where you were going with each of your ratings. The difference with my Tissot is that I have the silver face version which I think makes it a little less plain, or at least doesn't advertise the plainness.
Jody, I have to take issue with your lume scoring because the Seiko wasn't twice as good as the Tissot. It lasted mere seconds longer which would be a few minutes at best. They both went dim at similar rates and I think that while the Seiko had lumed indices, the blue is far prettier than the green. I would have given it to Seiko by a score of 8-6, not 8-4. By your logic, the Swiss Chronomter should have had at least double the score of the Seiko movement but you only gave it a lead of two. I also believe that a Swiss-Made Chronometer is a much bigger X-Factor than anything from Seiko that doesn't begin with "Grand".
I have the SARB033, and love everything about it except for the movement, which runs 7 minutes slow per day. Yes, you read that right. My SKX007 and 173, my NH35s, 4R36s, and my vintage ('72) 7006-8110 run spot on (as do all my ETAs), my 4Hz Seagull-powered Rider (albeit absolute crap winding feel that clicks and crunches every 10 or so winds), Starking 4Hz in-house, etc. Everything runs better than this SARB, so Jody is absolutely correct in warning everyone (my Alpinist 017 runs well though, so it's a bit of a hit and miss game). I'll be attempting to regulate and demagnetize it, but my current example just might just end up in my local classifieds (I'm therefore on the hunt for a pre-owned replacement, that I'll check out thoroughly before purchasing). If anyone has any ideas, send them along.

I'd find some of their build quality issues laughable if I weren't slightly OCD, including chapter rings that miraculously line up at the top, but not at the bottom... how is that possible on a circular watch?! I suppose I should be grateful to Seiko for helping me overcome my need for absolute alignment haha
Funny watching this one year later. You can buy 5 Tissot for the price of 1 seiko. I just can't get over the price of the seiko now, mind boggling. Great review and I'm never selling my sarb

Nice comparison. Sarb033 all day, that's my daily driver. I do wish is had anti-reflective coating and knock on wood the movement is going strong. Totally agree on the x-factor with the Sarb.
That Seiko movement is a stinker in my experience. Jody turned me on to the PR 100 and I bought the COSC quartz version. Yes, the Seiko looks better, but there is elegance in accuracy. Less than $200 for a Tissot is a winner for an office watch.
My own 033 out of the box gives me +3 per day which is no problem, I can assure you there are more good 6r15 movements sold than bad ones, cosc on a quartz is as pointless as tits on a bus, my Casio royale for under £30 will match that and has bags more charm, character and elegance than the Tissot.

Bought a sarb033 with a bad movement in it. Lost more then 10 minutes every 2 hours. Had to return it and never bought another since the price flew up. Pretty happy with my Seiko 5 snzg13 as it only gains about 0.5 second a day. Been wearing it everyday for the last 2 years and still love it.
The Seiko SARB has a very nice design and the perfect size, but that 6RXX movement is crappy. Seiko 6RXX movements are not very accurate, not to mention not too dependable either. I would rather have a slightly dull looking watch than an unreliable one. So the Tissot for me.

The new tissot logo looks like it was made by someone who does their designing with Microsoft word. No matter how nice the tissot watch the logo makes it look no better than a Chinese special. The visodates do look nice with the old logo

Seems to me like the Tissot is a little better value for the price, but I can’t get over how much better the Seiko looks. I love that aesthetic, and the Tissot looks a little too casual, plus that ridiculous sloppy looking cyclops. I can’t help but prefer the Seiko despite the price (even though they’re now over $400). Can’t really afford either of them, though, so it’s a moot point.
Tissot is a better brand than Seiko? How many iconic watches has Tissot made? Did James Bond ever wear a Tissot? Was Ripley wearing a Tissot when she defeated the Alien Queen?
Atticus As a Tissot owner, there’s something vanilla about a lot of their styles. Unfortunate really, because often times the movements are build qualities are great values.
Never mind the plastic and lower beat rate, a COSC simply must be a 10/10 movement at this price point. Overall I got to say I prefer the Seiko though. If it was all about specs you’d just get a quartz or a smartwatch. The SARB has so much character - it’s a watch to love - while the Tissot doesn’t really do anything
@Marcquise White I didnn't say I didn't like them. I've got several, just bought a new one. But Hamilton is the low end of the price range for the Swatch group. Which is why I own Hamiltons and not Omegas.

Tissot is a sponsor of the NBA, I don’t think Seiko is a major sponsor for any sports in the USA. So to the average person, I think Tissot would have more of a luxury image
If only the Tissot had a color matched date wheel and no cyclops. Regardless of anything else, the looks would keep me from buying the Tissot. Having said that, Tissot does make some very nice looking watches.
the movement is legit. you only have to watch for 6r15 D --- it needs to have D in the end. it has a new "spron" spring and it doesnt have any issues. i owned it for 2 years now and i dont have any problem. also 6r15 is already a higher market movement , comparable to tissot and it can be regulated ti cosc specs if not better.
Jody, I really like these kinds of reviews. I have a lower tier of Seiko with the same problem. Only two micro-adjustments I can't get a proper fit. I can swap the bracelet out, I just have not done anything as I have too many watches as it is and have kept it on the back burner. There are a lot of complaints on the Seiko 6R movement. Kind of a worry. I think the Tissot is a better deal, if only they used a better clasp rather than that ugly stamped one they use. I totally agree the Seiko has a much nicer dial and what a strange date complication the Tissot has.
Great head-to-head, thanks for this. I have the SARB and was looking at the PR100 (mainly for the movement) with an eye to picking one just like in this video. I think instead I'll get the white PR100 as that will negate some of the dial shortcomings in my opinion and I'll have two watches with two looks to rotate. I really liked this comparison. The Powermatic 80 has always been intriguing to me, especially in the Ballade. But I also own a a SARB033 which I think is fantastic. I think it would have been cool to have a Versatility category. Because the SARB is a strap monster and can be paired with tons of different strap options to suit several different occasions. And even looks great on aftermarket bracelets from like Strapcode or Watch Gecko. I’m curious how the Tissot does with different straps, can it easily be dressed up or down, what aftermarket options exist? And how would it fare against Seiko I such a category?
I agree with all your points. While the Tissot is great I would be happier with a SARB overall. However a big factor for me is the snap back. I had a Tissot Visodate with a snap back and i would’ve kept it if it only had a screw down case back. I’d much rather have a screw down case back and if possible a screw down crown, but the case back is a must. That’s more important to me than a sapphire crystal if they had to cut costs somewhere, so for that main reason I would avoid the Tissot, personally.
If not for that crummy clasp and and weird date cyclops, I'd consider getting the Tissot. I think a better Swiss piece would be the Hamilton Khaki King!
The internal circular cyclops over the non color-matched date wheel takes a boring watch and turns it into a flat-out disgusting one. Seriously, what were they thinking?
Hi Jody. I was wondering what your experience was like when comparing the clarity of the sapphire crystal and visibility of the dials on the sarb 033 to the sarb 035. I own the 035 and depending on the light and angle I've found that the crystal can appear a little opaque sometimes. My sarb 017 does a better job in that regard. I wonder if it has to do with the cream dial on the 035 in conjunction with the lack of AR coating. Maybe the warm cream dial doesn't reflect light as clearly as the dials on the 017 or the 033. Just wondering. Cheers!
On that price point I´d decide for the SEIKO anytime..... just love them. What I personally like about ALL of your reviews... they are straight forward, no fuzzing around for "a brand". You chance a Seiko against a Swiss Tissot. That´s a bold task. I like it.... 😉

For me, a mechanical movement must be serviceable. For a throwaway design, we’ve had quartz for 50 years (some are very good are serviceable as well). I’d buy one if it had an ETA 2824-2 with it’s usual 38h power reserve.

Yes, the SARB033 represents what Seiko used to be. Solid movements, thoughtful design, great value for money. Sadly, in the last few years, the beancounters have taken over and aggressively eliminated the nice movement, low price, well designed pieces. Reduced quality, raised prices, killed the brand. Used examples of older Seikos are selling for more than new ones. It's sad, really. About the PRS100: the same watch with a little thought to the dial and case design would be a world beater, and wouldn't cost any more to make. Everything is a bit worse today, and a lot more expensive.

Thanks for the shoot out, was great fun and informative as always, only thing I'd take you to task on is wear rating for the 033, I know on your original review of the 033 and on Insta comfort has been one of the things you have heavily praised the 033 for what happened since then?
The non COSC version of the pr100 looks tidier imho, no cyclops less print etc. I got the rhodium dial one, which - again, imho - looks way more interesting and has a stunning sunburst effect.
At 400$ i would expect at the very least a well refined 3hz movement which the tissot provides and the seiko does'nt even come close just like the rest of their watches that look great but have a clunker under the hood. The tissot all the way unless you could put the powermatic 80 in that seiko👍
Hands and dial look cheap on the Tissot. Face facts, at the end of the day it’s the dial and hands you look at and live with, the rest is nice but if it doesn’t make you smile just nod then it’s a dud.
It's so weird to see the sarb033 being quoted at $400 new because it's ballooned in price like crazy. Exact opposite can be said for the Tissot. You see them advertised under $230 all the constantly.
Interesting comparison! And if the Tissot is very comfortable on the arm, it's not difficult to imagine how comfortable the titanium version is with much lower weight! Unfortunately Titanium is only available fo the quartz version.

All the Sarb033 replacement have something missing from the dial. None of them uses the needle style Seconds hand counterbalance

Today the answer is clear - Tissot Powermatic 80 Silicium. Black dial is classic, blue is stunning, silver-white is just deep and beautiful.
I think being a Swiss brand, Swiss made, Swiss ETA movement, Itself is still a no-brainer for that price level.

as for your analogy - the true statement would be - sarb 033 is a 69 mustang. iconic design with iconic style, high quality and cultural importance and on ok engine. tissot pr 100 is a 2019 audi A4.... nothing iconic and special about it. it goes fast , costs alot of money and it also looks nice. but nobody will ever say - damn that audi a4 2019 really was something. ... its just a car. a nice car but theres nothing special about it and it will be replaced with 2020 model as soon as possible...

I have hundreds of watches spanning all price ranges and i can say with absolute confidence my sarb033 is not the best finished watch i own. i have mico-brands with better quality control. Seiko is notorious for quality control issues. You may have " the one" thats ok. I have 3 skx's and all have misaligned chapter rings. I love Seiko but to say they are better finished than an omega or even a entry level swiss piece like tissot is nonsense. i love seiko dive watches but i wouldnt buy another dress watch from them.
Tissot is better and more for the money but I like sarb more, I would rather wear that sarb every day then pr100
I will second that I like the sarb more, I just I could get one for the price they were going for 3 or 4 years ago. They were half the price they're going for now. At $275-350 this watch was amazing. I don't think they're quite the value now that they're going to 500-700
All down to personal taste, of course, but I would go for the Tissot every time. Love the channel, by the way!
Let me start by saying I am a big fan of SEIKO. I own an SKX007, a Monster, 2 Turtles, 2 Samurais, a Sumo, a solar PADI, and a Velatura Yacht Timer. I owned a SARB for a short period and sold it. I own 1 Tissot PR-100 with the PowerMatic 80 COSC movement. I think Tissot has more brand cache than SEIKO in most people's eyes, not that I give a rat's ass what people think of my watches. Most people don't know the difference between quartz and automatic. I think the Tissot, in this case, is a little more dressy and sleeve comfortable than the SARB. The Tissot is a little more "minimalistic" in its design. Some people like that approach. As for lume, no one beats SEIKO. But to my eyes, it was pretty even in the test here. Although the Tissot has much less lume, they disappeared at about the same time. I have to disagree with the bracelet evaluation. The Tissot (at least mine) has no rattle to it and is very solid. I don't really get the dislike of the stamped clasp. Once it is on my wrist, I don't feel it. And we all know that most SEIKOs use stamped clasps, too. Now do an Oceanus review!
As much as SARB033 is a brilliant watch, PR100 COSC Automatic wins.
Its COSC certification, Powermatic movement with 80hr power reserve, and Swiss build quality at a cheaper price (especially due to SARB's inflated price) are too significant to ignore.
PR100 white/silver dial version with an alligator leather strap can comfortably hang with the dress watches that are more expensive by multifold.
Swiss build quality... with stamped clasp? and rattling bracelet? Knowing global corporations, I bet you about 40% of that watch was made in China. lol
@@PT111111 Yes, it's true that PR100's bracelet is of a lower quality. However, the importance of a watch is more on the watch itself, not the band. The band can be easily be replaced, and often for the better and cheaper. Furthermore, there's often disproportionate quality differences between watches and bands they come with. Therefore, watch purchases should prioritize more on the quality of the watch itself, not the band it comes with.
That cyclops and date window though. Ugh!
@@PawsleyDirt That's definitely one of the biggest shortcoming of its design. It's especially odd because Tissot have done a circular date cutoff before. However, it's likely to be a cost saving measure of production because the non-COSC variant also has a rectangle cutout. The reasoning is also likely for the same bottom text between automatic and quartz COSC variants, when the automatic COSC could've had "PR100, Chronometer, Powermatic 80" instead.

I’ve owned both Omega & Tissot. I have to say my tissot prs516 holds just as well as the Omega Semaster. Great value in the watch world to be had in tissot. Swiss watchmaking is second to none.
Tissot all day long. Once I see less than 3 microadjustments I move on. Tissot more versatile and COSC swiss made adds some credence. Finally, if mon-fri watch no reset for Tissot on Monday.

Good video Judy! I'd go for Tissot as a brand, got a powermatic 80 seastar 1000. Swiss made usually worth the extra in this case. Not sure how much they were at the time but $450 AUD now. Lose and squeaky Reminds me of the Pagani designs stainless steel but they are good for the price. The Tissot Gentleman would be better for a bit more cash
COSC certified under $300 is a rare find. One cannot expect that. I bought both of the SARB’ds in this video (and a few more), but sold them all. Good watches, all of them.

This comparison is a perfect example of how better specs on paper don't necessarily translate to a better watch. I've had the SARB035 for one year, and it's such an alluring watch. I have tried on the Tissot PR100 and it didn't speak to me, I find it very dull.
I suggest you take a look at Orient Star, great proposition at a similar price point! I have one and quality wise it trumps both of these.
Ouroboros: There’s a RUclips touting Orient Star as having a lot of Grand Seiko qualities (for a small fraction of the price of course.)
Thanks for the video, I went ahead and bought the Tissot with a white dial and gold accents. I think it looks way better than the black dial. #1 reason has to be the movement and the COSC certification.
That Tissot is about as nice as the people who work at the Swiss customs department between Freiburg and Basel.

Spot on with this comparison! I have both of these watches and knew exactly where you were going with each of your ratings. The difference with my Tissot is that I have the silver face version which I think makes it a little less plain, or at least doesn't advertise the plainness.
Jody, I have to take issue with your lume scoring because the Seiko wasn't twice as good as the Tissot. It lasted mere seconds longer which would be a few minutes at best. They both went dim at similar rates and I think that while the Seiko had lumed indices, the blue is far prettier than the green. I would have given it to Seiko by a score of 8-6, not 8-4.
By your logic, the Swiss Chronomter should have had at least double the score of the Seiko movement but you only gave it a lead of two. I also believe that a Swiss-Made Chronometer is a much bigger X-Factor than anything from Seiko that doesn't begin with "Grand".
Lumes don't look that different. But that nasty clasp fold of Tissot is a real turn down.
I have the SARB033, and love everything about it except for the movement, which runs 7 minutes slow per day. Yes, you read that right. My SKX007 and 173, my NH35s, 4R36s, and my vintage ('72) 7006-8110 run spot on (as do all my ETAs), my 4Hz Seagull-powered Rider (albeit absolute crap winding feel that clicks and crunches every 10 or so winds), Starking 4Hz in-house, etc. Everything runs better than this SARB, so Jody is absolutely correct in warning everyone (my Alpinist 017 runs well though, so it's a bit of a hit and miss game). I'll be attempting to regulate and demagnetize it, but my current example just might just end up in my local classifieds (I'm therefore on the hunt for a pre-owned replacement, that I'll check out thoroughly before purchasing). If anyone has any ideas, send them along.
I have a long history of just every Seiko I but being not that accurate. It's starting be a real disappointment

I'd find some of their build quality issues laughable if I weren't slightly OCD, including chapter rings that miraculously line up at the top, but not at the bottom... how is that possible on a circular watch?! I suppose I should be grateful to Seiko for helping me overcome my need for absolute alignment haha
Funny watching this one year later. You can buy 5 Tissot for the price of 1 seiko. I just can't get over the price of the seiko now, mind boggling. Great review and I'm never selling my sarb

Nice comparison. Sarb033 all day, that's my daily driver. I do wish is had anti-reflective coating and knock on wood the movement is going strong. Totally agree on the x-factor with the Sarb.
That Seiko movement is a stinker in my experience. Jody turned me on to the PR 100 and I bought the COSC quartz version. Yes, the Seiko looks better, but there is elegance in accuracy. Less than $200 for a Tissot is a winner for an office watch.
I got the quartz COSC Tissot for $180 from Jomashop and it's the perfect grab and go watch!
My own 033 out of the box gives me +3 per day which is no problem, I can assure you there are more good 6r15 movements sold than bad ones, cosc on a quartz is as pointless as tits on a bus, my Casio royale for under £30 will match that and has bags more charm, character and elegance than the Tissot.

Bought a sarb033 with a bad movement in it. Lost more then 10 minutes every 2 hours. Had to return it and never bought another since the price flew up. Pretty happy with my Seiko 5 snzg13 as it only gains about 0.5 second a day. Been wearing it everyday for the last 2 years and still love it.
My Seiko SARB033 packed up after a month. Rubbish movement Best avoided
The Seiko SARB has a very nice design and the perfect size, but that 6RXX movement is crappy. Seiko 6RXX movements are not very accurate, not to mention not too dependable either. I would rather have a slightly dull looking watch than an unreliable one. So the Tissot for me.

COSC in that price is quite pros.
cosc means nothing. it just means that the wathc is already regulated.. or you can pay 20 bucks and regulate your seiko and you have the same specs

I have the PRC200 (blue) and I really like it, I find it very interesting. I love my SARB035 more though.

The new tissot logo looks like it was made by someone who does their designing with Microsoft word. No matter how nice the tissot watch the logo makes it look no better than a Chinese special. The visodates do look nice with the old logo

Seems to me like the Tissot is a little better value for the price, but I can’t get over how much better the Seiko looks. I love that aesthetic, and the Tissot looks a little too casual, plus that ridiculous sloppy looking cyclops. I can’t help but prefer the Seiko despite the price (even though they’re now over $400). Can’t really afford either of them, though, so it’s a moot point.

Atticus As a Tissot owner, there’s something vanilla about a lot of their styles. Unfortunate really, because often times the movements are build qualities are great values.
I gave my father a SARB 035 for Christmas and over time it developed some issues as well , but Seiko fixed it for free
Never mind the plastic and lower beat rate, a COSC simply must be a 10/10 movement at this price point. Overall I got to say I prefer the Seiko though. If it was all about specs you’d just get a quartz or a smartwatch. The SARB has so much character - it’s a watch to love - while the Tissot doesn’t really do anything

Tissot is a sponsor of the NBA, I don’t think Seiko is a major sponsor for any sports in the USA. So to the average person, I think Tissot would have more of a luxury image

If only the Tissot had a color matched date wheel and no cyclops. Regardless of anything else, the looks would keep me from buying the Tissot. Having said that, Tissot does make some very nice looking watches.

the movement is legit. you only have to watch for 6r15 D --- it needs to have D in the end. it has a new "spron" spring and it doesnt have any issues.
i owned it for 2 years now and i dont have any problem. also 6r15 is already a higher market movement , comparable to tissot and it can be regulated ti cosc specs if not better.
Jody, I really like these kinds of reviews. I have a lower tier of Seiko with the same problem. Only two micro-adjustments I can't get a proper fit. I can swap the bracelet out, I just have not done anything as I have too many watches as it is and have kept it on the back burner. There are a lot of complaints on the Seiko 6R movement. Kind of a worry. I think the Tissot is a better deal, if only they used a better clasp rather than that ugly stamped one they use. I totally agree the Seiko has a much nicer dial and what a strange date complication the Tissot has.
Sarb at $400 is silly. You can get Hamilton Khaki king for less, even on a bracelet.
Great head-to-head, thanks for this. I have the SARB and was looking at the PR100 (mainly for the movement) with an eye to picking one just like in this video. I think instead I'll get the white PR100 as that will negate some of the dial shortcomings in my opinion and I'll have two watches with two looks to rotate. Thanks again for this video as it pushed me to my final decision.
I really liked this comparison. The Powermatic 80 has always been intriguing to me, especially in the Ballade. But I also own a a SARB033 which I think is fantastic. I think it would have been cool to have a Versatility category. Because the SARB is a strap monster and can be paired with tons of different strap options to suit several different occasions. And even looks great on aftermarket bracelets from like Strapcode or Watch Gecko. I’m curious how the Tissot does with different straps, can it easily be dressed up or down, what aftermarket options exist? And how would it fare against Seiko I such a category?

I agree with all your points. While the Tissot is great I would be happier with a SARB overall. However a big factor for me is the snap back. I had a Tissot Visodate with a snap back and i would’ve kept it if it only had a screw down case back. I’d much rather have a screw down case back and if possible a screw down crown, but the case back is a must. That’s more important to me than a sapphire crystal if they had to cut costs somewhere, so for that main reason I would avoid the Tissot, personally.
my Seiko is the best , keeps time never have to wind or use batters , had it for over 10 years with out any issues .
If not for that crummy clasp and and weird date cyclops, I'd consider getting the Tissot. I think a better Swiss piece would be the Hamilton Khaki King!

Hi Jody. I was wondering what your experience was like when comparing the clarity of the sapphire crystal and visibility of the dials on the sarb 033 to the sarb 035. I own the 035 and depending on the light and angle I've found that the crystal can appear a little opaque sometimes. My sarb 017 does a better job in that regard. I wonder if it has to do with the cream dial on the 035 in conjunction with the lack of AR coating. Maybe the warm cream dial doesn't reflect light as clearly as the dials on the 017 or the 033. Just wondering. Cheers!

Just get the PR100 Chronograph, the dial is less bland which elevates it another notch.

For me, a mechanical movement must be serviceable. For a throwaway design, we’ve had quartz for 50 years (some are very good are serviceable as well). I’d buy one if it had an ETA 2824-2 with it’s usual 38h power reserve.
This is why I'm keeping the Sarb033. I wont.even wear it but I adore this piece.

Yes, the SARB033 represents what Seiko used to be. Solid movements, thoughtful design, great value for money.
Sadly, in the last few years, the beancounters have taken over and aggressively eliminated the nice movement, low price, well designed pieces. Reduced quality, raised prices, killed the brand.
Used examples of older Seikos are selling for more than new ones.
It's sad, really.
About the PRS100: the same watch with a little thought to the dial and case design would be a world beater, and wouldn't cost any more to make.
Everything is a bit worse today, and a lot more expensive.

The non COSC version of the pr100 looks tidier imho, no cyclops less print etc. I got the rhodium dial one, which - again, imho - looks way more interesting and has a stunning sunburst effect.

At 400$ i would expect at the very least a well refined 3hz movement which the tissot provides and the seiko does'nt even come close just like the rest of their watches that look great but have a clunker under the hood. The tissot all the way unless you could put the powermatic 80 in that seiko👍
Hands and dial look cheap on the Tissot. Face facts, at the end of the day it’s the dial and hands you look at and live with, the rest is nice but if it doesn’t make you smile just nod then it’s a dud.

It's so weird to see the sarb033 being quoted at $400 new because it's ballooned in price like crazy. Exact opposite can be said for the Tissot. You see them advertised under $230 all the constantly.
Issues with the movements should not be at this price. Makes you want a bulova high frequency for reliability and a smooth sweep.
Interesting comparison! And if the Tissot is very comfortable on the arm, it's not difficult to imagine how comfortable the titanium version is with much lower weight! Unfortunately Titanium is only available fo the quartz version.
