- Point of view test drive video of Mercedes-Benz S-Class 500 Coupé 4Matic year 2014. The S 500 Coupé has a V8 (8 cylinders) 4663cc petrol engine and delivers 456 BHP and a whopping 700 Nm of torque. The S500 goes from 0-100km/h in 4,6 sec and top speed is limited at 250km/h. The S 500 is equipped with a seven speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gear box.
Retail price of test car: 167.750 €. Starting price of S 500 4Matic: 130.922 €.

actually i dont really see the point of going for the 63 over the 500/550. the amg doesnt look as good or elegant ( purely my opinion ) and it has the older gearbox whereas you get the 500/550 with the new 9 speed. the amg also doesnt come with the magic body control that keeps the car level. i guess this is just my point of view since id never buy an s class for driving sporty. i would simply buy it for being comfortable, elegant and refined. but in the end its just my point of view. there are two s63 coupes on my street alone so never having driven one i can honestly just guess haha

I believe that's wrong. The car is equipped with a nine-speed 9G-TRONIC transmission gearbox.
+Don Draper i'm pretty sure the S500 4Matic in the video has a 7G-TRONIC PLUS gear box. I have a fact sheet of the test car and it says 7G-TRONIC PLUS. It also says so in a press release of 2014: "The 4MATIC version of the new S-Class Coupé features the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever."..and "The new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic torque converter transmission is used in the rear-wheel-drive variants of the S-Class Coupé" media.daimler.com/dcmedia/0-921-1721304-1-1709964-1-0-0-1710107-0-1-11702-1549054-0-1-0-0-0-0-0.html?TS=1460198347692 However on www.mercedes-benz.de it says now that the S500 4Matic has 9G-TRONIC gearbox so i assume they replaced between now and 2014.
It seems to be fairly quick and it has a really nice exhaust note? Who Needs an S63 AMG when you can have this one?

You hold your hands on the steering wheel not efficiently (9 and 3) and that's why you have problems to execute stronger turns. Try 10 minutes to 3 o'clock, you will see a difference. Nice video BTW. Cheers!

I've been thinking of this car since it came out, but everytime i said something everyone was like: Its an old mans car and drives nothing like the cars im used to. Not sporty enough, only for cruising, its like a ship.
You stated a couple of times you would buy the S Coupe over most other cars... so i got to ask: how old are you? :D
And how was the drive?
+Baerzilla I'm 34. The drive was amazing, from what i can remember. It's been more than a year. I hope to drive it again sometime :) I feel like it has more to offer than just being a sporty car. I don't think they wanted to build a hardcore sports car. I think it's more about luxury, comfort, elegance and refinement all combined in a sporty car.
Well, I'd actually love to get one, but the company car leasing offers MB has with the S Class compared to other cars of same value are rediculous here. A fully specced Audi RS6 or MB GLE 63 AMG would be just short of 2k a month, a S500 Coupe around 3k, not negotiable. Which is just too damn expensive. :(

I went for a GLE 63 Coupe now, cant wait for delivery. Pretty happy with my descision. Also my friends were telling me to keep my M4, as they are absolute BMW M fanboys. In the end, I'll get to keep both now if I can manage the financial part. Will see :)

+Bee Bee SLK is a lot smaller than S Coupe. S coupe is made on the same platform as S class, so you can imagine the difference in size is very big comparing it with SLK, which is one the smallest Mercedes-Benz cars.

Mercedes need to make a car to compete with the Ferrari FF, with a functional back seat that can can fit adults. Stop with all the gadgetry anf make an FF competitor
Wouldn't the utility space of an E63 4matic wagon be more useful and just as fast on the street? The only time you'll notice the Ferrari being faster is above 120mph and how often are you really seeing those numbers? Nothing makes the FF particularly appealing other than it being the only AWD Ferrari you can purchase.
