I recall being sceptical when I first heard that Branagh was going to make a cinema version of Henry V. I thought there was no way it could possibly match the iconic Olivier/Walton version. I was SO wrong. Patrick Doyle's soundtrack score is very fine indeed and is, I believe, as powerful in its own way as Walton's.

Hi Max, hope you're well. Like you, I was sceptical about this enterprise although I think my scepticism had more to do with fear of this new one overshadowing what was one of my favourite films. I should have known better because Brannagh was never going to fall into the trap of doing a carbon copy of the Olivier version; he surrounded himself with a fine cast and, for the music, employed someone whose first time it was (I think) to write a cinema score. Like Brannagh, Doyle carefully avoided any references to Walton and the score is devoid of Waltonian medieval pastiche. The result was a first rate film with a truly wonderful score and the whole enterprise compliments Olivier's classic.
As an aside, there was a BBC tv series called 'The Hollow Crown' which produced the Shakespeare history plays. The version of Henry V in this stars Tom Hiddleston as Henry and it's very good.
