    The word "underrated" gets tossed around freely and needlessly these days. But if there was ever a reason to use it, then Bruce Broughton id definitely one. This is one of my favorite scores by him. It truly captures the heroic and adventurous nature of the Wild West film genre and it never sounds hokey. It's so good that it could be symphony-concert-hall-good. Another one of my faves by him coincidentally is from another western, Tombstone; then there's his amazing Young Sherlock Holmes; and Lost in Space.

      One of my all-time favorite scores. It's brilliantly written and orchestrated. Sweeping, and full of the romance and power of the Old West.

      I had not seen Silverado till recently, I always assumed it wasn't a great movie or Western and was wrong on that account, but I recognized the music the moment I heard it, as did my girlfriend. Underrated is correct in this case, even if people know the music and associate it with Westerns they don't know the composer. Hell I didn't realize he did Tombstone till I read it here!

    As the time for American western movies was past during the 80’s, director Lawrence Kasdan took the risk to portray a galloping adventure: “Silverado”, starring Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner and even Monty Python’s John Cleese as Sheriff was a big success. A success surely also caused by the magnificent musical support by the then relatively unknown Bruce Broughton, earning him an Academy Award nomination. Enjoy this joyride!

    A fantastic score, no matter what you think about the movie. One of my favorite non-Goldsmith scores from the 1980s.

    Might be the best score in my lifetime. And I'm getting long in the tooth now. Goddamn gorgeous brass scoring, with equally gorgeous woodwind figures and string power. Just a fantastic piece of cinematic music.

    Love this soundtrack. It’s one of my all-time favorites. I took this along with me on my morning walk. 😃 I don’t know what it is about Western-themed music, but I love it. There are a couple places in this Soundtrack that always give me chills. The music is so stirring. Thanks for sharing Soundtrack Fred. You just made my day better. 👏🏻😃

Wundervoll!

    Is this one of the best scores? The Big Country is another and The Unforgiven (Burt Lancaster/Audrey Hepburn) as well. I listen to it as often as I replay the film dvd! I can visualize the scenes vividly the score is just that great. Thanks for showcasing this.

    One of the few western movies that I love! Saw this when it came out in the 80s. The beautiful cinematography and this amazing music soundtrack, are what impressed me the most. I actually have this soundtrack! Thank you so much for this suite! You perfectly melded all the themes together so perfectly! I love how you do that! 😀

    I used to watch this with my dad when I was a kid... It's still one of my favorites, and I still quote some of the lines here and there :)
    Cavalry Sgt. : How do I know this is your horse?
    Paden : Can't you see this horse loves me?
    Cavalry Sgt. : I had a gal do that to me. It didn't make her my wife.
    Classic stuff.

    Dear Fred, You've done it again for me I love this film and the score. This film has a great cast and is a fun movie. Where is Lawrence Kasden he did some fine work such as Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon also has a great score. My favorite scene is when Danny Glover goes to the cave to get Scott Glen the music is so awesome. Thanks, Fred❤❤❤

    I always get this confused with the theme to Galaxy Quest. I was even whistling it one afternoon, and my partner says to me, "Hey, that's from Silverado, isn't it?" "Nope," says I. "Galaxy Quest, you idjit!" I have yet to live down the ignominy.

    This music serves the movie well, which was in its day refreshing and a bit daring. But on it own, the score is clearly derivative of Williams and is pretty generic. It sounds like the music from that movie you just can't quite remember the name of ...or maybe it was that other film...

    • @magcorchny599

      You do know that the score you're snottily dissing was nominated for an Oscar for best original score, right?

    • @mikesmovingimages
      @mikesmovingimages 3 года назад

      @@magcorchny599 Oh no! You don't say! I have once again failed to correlate my opinions with those of the Academy from decades past?!? How could I let that happen? Perhaps you can teach me to look at things like you do where one simply looks up how AMPAS voted in lieu of listening, thinking and reasoning in the formation of an opinion. Brilliant!

    • @Stevarino1020
      @Stevarino1020 2 года назад

      @@mikesmovingimages All music is derivative . You could say John Williams borrowed from Aaron Copland and Elmer Bernstein who used traditional themes. There is creativity and complexity in this Music and it deserves every bit of its nomination.

    • @mikesmovingimages
      @mikesmovingimages 2 года назад

      @@Stevarino1020 Some music must be more derivative than others. Besides, I never took issue with the AMPAS nom. To me it is irrelevant. AMPAS has nominated plenty of dogs, and passed over many a gem. I listen with my own ears and don't look to award shows for validation.
