I really like these videos that you guys are doing where the artist just gets to ramble on and show his methodology and techniques without any heavy-handed editorial comment or product focus that is found in some other types of channels.
Couldn't agree more👍
More like tiny desk than sales desk
Totally agree, this is a much more enjoyable interview style
true words - there's nothing against that. How I would love to see such a video of Ricardo Villalobos in his studio
absolutely agree!
Scott, you're a Genius! I hope your family knows, you are still connecting and resonating with people all over the World
Please shoot more like this. The cinematography is amazing and so is the techno.
Glad you enjoyed the video. We‘re gonna release a lot more studio features in the future and we actually already shot a few of them :)
Deadbeat rules. As next please Pole!
Great suggestion!
I like some free-style talk, Deadbeat is very passionate about music and tech in general. good job!
Love to see this, deadbeat is a great inspiration!
Absolutely stellar, thank you for this. Scott is a legend.
I'd love to see a project with both of you guys! That would fit pretty well, I guess
Can't agree more on the philosophy and the T-shirt.
Scott's energy is so special, that I felt myself like talking to him in a room (or a space?). Great to see him doing what he does best, healthy, inspired and with shining eyes. Mine do shine too, watching him talking and recording with passion throughout the years.
Great vocoder trick!
Thank you, Scott!
We are loving these videos! Thank you Thomann and Deadbeat, I really enjoyed
More of these. Please. Every day! Thanks
More is coming!
That moment when you subscribe for a giveaway and realize this yt channel of a big biiiig online store ACTUALLY puts up in-depth and interesting music-production content. Ha!
Brilliant Scott. LOVED IT. Thank you 🙏 so much sir! GREAT technique!
What a lovely and inspirational guy
THAT WAS TOP. I love the Drawn and Quartered album.
This was incredible, so many gems of wisdom! Deep gratitude to you and Deadbeat for making it happen 😊🙏
Hey! Thank you so kuch for this! The vocoder technique was unknown for me and that gives me the last missing type of sound/groove i was looking for! 🎉🎉🎉
Dub techno represent!
nah, looks like you're just trolling the genere with your narcissism...
So inspiring!!!
Absolutely loved this - thanks to Deadbeat for sharing his work flow, and for yourselves for filming and sharing!
What a great guy. Never new this was him. Truly love his music.
A master! Thanks for this incredible admission into his studio and process!
you definitely can do everything ITB these-days, software is incredible and you can do more with it than hardware. Where software falls down for me is when you want to jam and practice playing chords etc, just switching on my Nord, Virus, Analog keys or Sub 37 and jamming away tweaking aimlessly is so easy to do compared to software.
100% agree. But where hardware then loses ground again to software is in the ability to revisit that jam days later and tweak the composition / performance slightly without losing the original sound.
Although the specific synths you mentioned are actually some of the best at facilitating this, due to their tight software integration. Virus has Ti, Elektron has Overbridge, Sub 37 has a great Vst and comprehensive MIDI implementation. Don't know about Nord, but I assume it at least has full MIDI CC output (it better at that price point). But even with these, you still have to take nontrivial steps to capture the starting point of all parameters before you begin your jam session.
What a fantastic video and what a lovely guy Scott is. Thanks for the video! And I feel really lucky to have seen Scott live (Nachtdigital, I think 2015?)
Inspiring words SCOTT!!!! thanks for that piece of philosophy on hardware vs software...and I also LOVE your t-shirt!!!
Keep them coming!!
that was super interesting! keep these coming :)))
Big up yuhself Deadbeat!
thanks for sharing your great tricks Deadbeat! amazing stuff! Scott and Thomann you rock!
Its cool to hear him say you can do everything in the box. I stopped using and buying hardware 10 years ago and never looked back. I sold off everything that had been collecting dust two years ago. Don’t miss it. I use a vocoder to make Dub chords sometimes. I send drums through it. Sometimes just play chords through it. His technique is interesting too. Might give this a try.
Awesome! Also, that painting on the wall looks rad.
Love these videos!
This was really great, thanks.
Dub Techno ❤
Love this
love this !
Thanks for the tips, tricks, and insight!
Very nice! Thx a lot!
Great video, thanks!
Really Good!!!
great presentation! thanks!
MASTER 🙏
The vocoder trick is so cool. I knew it’s all about filter+phaser+delay but what a cool way to add interesting rhythms to the chords
Dub chord masterclass! Nice.
Doing Dub Techno for years and i never thought about using a vocoder. Thanks for this.
Get some lovely handsome chords out of Arturia vocoder
@21:31 Love when he explains the air pressure being changed in a room and how it applies to sidechain because at some point, it’s not adding or even removing instruments that makes a track great. The concept of playing with negative space is one that fascinates me. Would love to know if you use this in other ways than sidechaining Scott.
Absolutely. I think on a mix level it is great to create a tactile situation whether with a physical mixer or midi controller to move through parts and try different volume settings, also with fx levels. I think the more organic, human-driven decisions made during the arrangements and mixing process the better
Love the nerd out!
very cool and inspiring clip.
inspiring what you said about dynamically changing the trigger of side-chain.btw, with plugins like Gatekeeper you can perform envelopes (by trigerring them with midi controller)
Cool stuff!
Fascinating peak behind the curtain Dr Scott.
This video is great and I'd love to see more like it. I also love that he's just using Ableton stock plugins, which I feel like get WAY overlooked, it's all in how you use 'em.
Respect 🙏
what a master
Such amazing video! Who is the Brazilian Sound Poetry artist that was mentioned? I'd love to hear more!
sick technique with the vocoder
Wait a second is he in T.Raumschmiere's studio?@
Oh he is they share a studio! XD
Wow thank you Deadbeat and Thomann! Question: how do you usually process your sub bass?
not at all!!! subs are the foundation, just set them at a level that sounds good and don't touch them until you can hear them coming through a proper club sound system and have that channel with a fader to adjust to the room
Cheers for this..that vocoder sounds very Dave Clark REDDISH..lol..
krass, deadbeat!
Midi 2.0. I'll believe it when I see it, it's been rumoured for about a decade.
Hello, good Video. What Audio Interface is been using? Does it Multirecording?
I thought the Open Sound Control protocol or OSC for short was the midi 2.0.
Lovely video. Typo in the title screen tho - should be “breathe” not “breath”.
Good catch, we fixed it.
Has anyone an idea if Scott uses a plugin for Congas or if he just used a recording of real ones?
Where is the link to the artist page ?
I want / need a CRACKHAUS reunion. Any chance this can happen on my next birthday?
why it looks like t. raumschmire''''S studio??
.......please don't forget the German dub techno pioneers.... ........
Kind of results
Hi
In the future we'll be able to automate the production of dub techno so humans don't have to do it anymore. ;)
we dont have to make music. we want to make it ourselves.
I freakin hope not pal as it would make life pretty boring. Can we not automate things like food production, killing viruses, and turning lead into gold instead? :D
mouth synth is as analogue as it gets
😂
It's all about pushing air 🤓
やばすぎー
paused the video @4:44 and there’s 111 likes 👀 wut

Äääh, äh,. Äääm, ääääähh,...
Dub techno “composition” lol
Let me guess, you are a jazz/classical major in first-year university and don't see electronic music as true composition? :D
I tried I’m sorry but It was difficult to listen to 34minutes straight of “ uuuuuhm….aahhhhhhhm”
I love his aesthetic, view on sound design and overall enthusiastic and creative approach to music in its many forms.
It was just hard. But I’m just in one of those moods maybe.
