Hi cap. The SUE was a 1970 upgarde plane base on the Etendart IVM. In the nose you have the Agave radar, for naval attack. SEM (super etedanrt Modernise) was the last version of the French Navy. We buy all of her remaining planes and spare parts. Many of the SEM, do not have remaining hours flyable. As far I known, the Frencha didn´t have any spare parts.
Nice to see you guys fly the Mirage ! That delta wing always makes for beautiful shots, especially with Simba leading the pack, losing altitude belly up ! I have seen Mirage pilots training a lot when I was a kid, even breaking the sound barrier and its nice to finally see a full mission with them. Personally, even though getting used to seeing them, I always thought that if I was an enemy trooper on the ground and saw a squadron of Mirage coming up, that delta shaped wing adds up to the "put the fear of God in you" of any fighter jet. And damn that plane is loud ! I once have been flyby-ed by two groups of six (at about 400 feet AGL) and I was totally s**t scared, if you'll pardon my french. Anyway Cap, do not try to "justify"/"apologize" for failure. To quote the great Adam Savage, failure is always an option. I dont think people realize how many planes you guys try to get the mastery of, but it IS impressive. And I guess any real pilot would confirm training regularly is key to success. Switching airframes so often cant be easy and we thank you for trying, and succeeding with such apparent ease most of the time ^^ Also, I'd love to see an air to air skirmish opposing Mirages to US fighters, outside of our beloved Thunderdome arena ;-) Last, but not least, the Rafale is supposed to be a much better, more versatile, more appreciated airplane compared to the old Mirage - although quite expensive, at about the same price per unit as the F35B. Is it available in DCS ? Will it be ? As far as I can recall, I haven't seen it in GR videos... Good hunting !
First precision : 55 mirage 2000D are still in service after modernization and will stay in service until 2030. Second precision : the range of AASM (or Hammer) is 70 km when fired from high altitude and 15 km when fired from low altitudes.
Another Super-E anecdote: as the British fleet was cruising towards the Falklands, they were drilled by french super-Es playing red force for the British so they would what they were up against and how to fight super-Es when they get to the Falklands.
Cap, Etendard is pronounced 'ay ton dar'. Fun fact - the Mirage was the first European fighter to reach mach 2 in level flight I believe. Beautiful design.
28:31 French Chewie didn't say "Honhon!", but did you know that the original movie release had altered many of the names (e.g., Princesse Leila, Yann Solo, Dark Vador, etc.)? Chewie's name in that version was the most ridiculous, having been translated to "Chique-tabac" (lit., Chew-Tobacco)...
I mean, it's the same jet that harassed the farklands, seeing the state of the Black Sea fleet and air defense in Crimea. They might be effective despite their age.
30:47 I heard a click (which I assume was Cap pulling the trigger) when the sight was just short of the target, and then some clunks (bombs released) beyond the target. It would seem there was a delay in the release, and I imagine that's what sent them long.
The bombs didn't release until your path marker was in the bracket (aka you were flying level). That didn't happen until the ccip mark was past the targets, so they fell long
The article I read mentioned the Super Es would/could be used specifically retaking Crimea. Doing a mission to "Finish off the Russian Black Sea Fleet" using the Exocet missiles from the Super Es would be interesting.
@@Onezmhu That is true, but for now they are only mounted on warships' box launchers. Though I suppose it wouldn't be _that_ hard to upgrade them to that standard, I wonder if it would be easier to rig a Ukrainian Neptune missile with far greater range to the Super E
Once the dust up between ED and Razbam is settled and I know they will support the modules, I am getting the Mirage and the South Atlantic map. Maybe even the AV8B. But not until I am sure
hi just wanted to say that there was a mistake in the video . the mirage that macron want to send are the mirage 2000-5F not the C-S ones . it does make a big difference because 5F can carry MICA IR or EM and have a way better radar (here it wasnt that important but still) plus it would have acces to HAMMER as well of GBU and mores air to ground weaponry. also isnt the mirage 2000 iusposed to have a MAWS system thanks to his magic 2 pylons ?
Yeah…at around the 5:40 mark Cap does say that what France will be sending is the 2000-5F variant, but that they would be using the 2000 C-S variant in the sim, because it wouldnt make a difference. Besides, its a GR video, so im pretty confident that even if they did decide to use the 2000-5F variant in the sim, they’d still be using unguided mk.82 bombs, rather than anything fancy like GBUs or HAMMER.
The Argentines never had many Etendards or Exocets. Armed with modern Anti-shipping missiles they could have an impact out of proportion to their numbers.
The old planes might be useful shooting down Shahed drones and cruise missiles. They can also shoot exocet anti-ship missiles, so maybe a Storm Shadow?
Arret radar means radar off -> CCIP is inaccurate. It probably needs to be turned on with HOTAS these days but I don't remember which button it is. Mirage does not have a terrain database and position was off anyway so no way for CCIP to work without it. Plane likely used naive radar altimeter readings for the symbology.
There was talk of sending typhoons, but compared to F-16 it would be a very expensive way to make a small difference, precisely because we wouldn't be able to donate many. We still need (or at the very least want) a certain number for our own defence and it makes much more sense to train for and supply one multi-role fighter when typhoons can't do much that f-16s can't.
Those Mirages look good in Ukrainian digi-camo! Another way the UrAF could use the Etendard is as a buddy refueler for the Mirages, enabling long range strikes against Russian targets in Crimea and/or Kerch. (Could the GR simulate such a strike?) France also retired their Etendards in 2016, don't know the material readiness of them but could possibly be part of a deal for Ukraine or possibly used as repair parts.
The mirage 2k can also carry storm shadows which will probably be its main purpose, the super eetendard if they are sent will probably be modified to do the same.
@@anonymous17367 even still, if the ukrainains can modify su 24s to carry storm shadows, then im pretty sure the french or ukrainians can modify the mirages.
It was spoken of what jets to send... well, I thought about the different marks of Tornado... but I answered my own question: swing wing aircraft maintenance... I wonder what aircraft that was mass produced could be given to them?
I'm loving the channel. One thing I've noticed is that simply getting aircraft off the ground is sometimes a real limit in most scenarios. Although logistically questionable I wonder if either 10 small airfields with 5 planes each is better than 1 airfield with 50 planes. Also, would an airfield with 10 radial runways be better than the usual 2 or 3 straight ones? After all, asphalt is cheap. Keep up the wonderful work, it's fascinating in a macabre sort of way.
believe it or not there was a design proposal for a circular banked runway. But most runways are designed to run in the direction that the wind most often blows. bases that have multiple directional runways are usually in areas where the winds can change direction for long periods of time. jets can actually hand crosswinds pretty well. and Fighters like an F-16 can and more thank you think take off with a slight tail wind depending on the situation.
@@simba1113 haha, just shows my lack of knowledge! Lol. How about a rail launch system like they have on carriers? Somehow I want to reduce it all to a giant baseball launcher.🤓
Nothing to do with this video but have you done any work on how much RAM DCS requires and how much it prefers? Hardware Unboxed did a video on RAM usage by video games and one of the comments was that DCS could use up to 50 GB when modded; I'd love to see your detailed analysis.
I wondered about the number of planes but they do not have many left. So maybe have one small strike group. UK cannot even afford to maintain the earlier version of Typhoon I heard.
IMO ... Mirage 2000 F5 provide top cover while Super Es come in low over the sea. F16s get the ground and pound with glide bombs. Maybe it 's all a feint to sucker those Su30 and Su35 into Patriot range?
The Grippen is the obvious aicraft choice for Ukraine - but there are 85 F-18s suddendly available for the US to send over and I think that is the next best thing...taking off from roads with hardened landing gear, it would be a beautiful sight.
Enjoyed the mission; thank you. If you redo this... perhaps add a standing air patrol... I know the mission is difficult enough... but a couple of Su-27s would be interesting. And by the way: What does a French wookie sound like: le burrrrrrrr! OR la burrrrr respectively...
That’s the whole problem with Ukraine. They are getting odd numbers of aircraft and combat vehicles from numerous countries. Their logistics must be a nightmare.
It wasnt until 2009 that France fully joined NATO, unless the Mirages have been fully updated then interoperability will be an issue, this is a certainty with the Super Etendards. The Fires teams couldnt use the Frence AC for very much in Afghan due to the lack of common systems, gun runs at best with obviously a show of force for all that was worth.
....And now I have something to add to my "Bucket List". Go to a European/UK airshow. 😂 For me, the Super-E is kind of like an analog to the A-6, A-4, A-7, and maybe a bit of the Buccaneer.
Hello my name is melo and I am new to the channel. Not sure if this is something you guys have ever done before. A battle between carriers where the fighter wings can only use guns an laser-guided bombs at altitude . So the scenario I envision a modern US aircraft carrier what is full complement of Fighters are armed with standard loadout of guns and or gun pods also armed with radar guided bombs to eliminate the enemies carrier of Chinese or Russian. No missiles whatsoever no missiles that can lock on to the carriers carriers only defense machine gun based Point defense c, Ram just curious if that's something that has ever been done
How can someone NOT own the Mirage 2000? It is by far the most accurate modeling of any radar or flight (as per the French airforce)…and its the sexiest aircraft in the game after the Phantom
@@tomejkol1 it is not supported at the moment but neither you nor anyone else have any evidence that it will "shortly no longer work" or wont be supported in the future. Everyone needs to calm down with this "All your modules are belong to us" crap. Lets actually wait until ED and Razbam fail to reach a deal first. until then, enjoy the module.
@@tomejkol1 i should add that while i get someone not purchasing a RAZBAM module now, my comment was relating to why he didn't already own it; being one of the most polished in the game.
Warnings the 2000-5 is a pure fighter interceptor. It cannot carry air to ground armement!!! It is not a 2000C which can do both nor a 2000B or D which are bombers
hey, it woudl be cool that you make a second edition but more precisely and realisticly a day or another ! i spotted some errores that would have totaly changed the outcome fo the mission (i think) 1. the Mirage 2000-5 could be equipped with the AASM 250, france already tested it and you can find some picture of them carrying 5 GPS AASM and since the mirage 2000-5 has MFD etc, the integration of the AASM would not be this hard and the most likely to happen i think, im 99% sur the ukrainien wouldn't use the mirage with dumb bomb 2. the AASM loft, so instead of having 25 miles of range IRL it has 45 miles (at 50Kft aproximatively) 3. france will provide mirage 2000-5 not 2000C it make a huge difference in terme of modernity since the mirage 2000-5 has a better radar and AA missiles (not really usefull in this case since there is no air threat) but it could have helped with the bombes CCRP 4. for this one im not sure but i think you didn't well prepared the CCRP in the sens that your radar ground altitude wasn't showed and that there was wrote "arret radar" ("radar stop") on the bottom of the HUD, since the CCRP of the mirage work with the radar ground altitude, the CCRP wasn't showing an accurate target (sorry for my english, the video was really cool tho !)
They could use them as second line aircraft for the super e, for training, or other none front line combat role like interception in west Ukraine ... Even tho they are slow
From what I've read, Ukraine likely will be using the Mirage 2000-5Fs as anti-ballistic missile and intercepts, whilst the F-16s will be more multi-role. But this is fascinating Jet to give Ukraine. It's basically another type of F-16 and they don't have to rely too heavily on the USA for parts. The Super Es is more Argentina trying to do some politics. They likely won't be used, but again more France wanting to offer more planes to Ukraine to help fill a need I wonder if the USMC/UK (if possible) will give Ukraine their older Harriers. Would be a fun jet for them and the S/VTOL would be pretty nice
Maybe the Russians could dust off what Yak-38s are left in mothballs and deploy them to Ukraine because those aircraft were just - so good. (Yes that is sarcasm.)
Our Typhoon airframes don't have much life left so we are scrapping them, although the most likely reason is politics and having the infastructure to support the jets, we can barely train our own pilots for Typhoon!
The thyphoons will remain in british service at least until 2035 more likely 2040 so airframe life shouldn't be a problem. We in Germany still use our tornadoes and they're at least twice as old as the thyphoon. The Thyphoon is too expensive and too maintenance intensive. Also it won't go out of service anytime soon so we'd have no replacement for it if we gave them to ukraine. The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Norway can give away F 16s since they wanted to replace them with F35s anyways. None of the Eurofighter users plan on replacing them anytime soon.
Dear Cap, what if Ukraine will use the F 35 for these Missions? Will they lose just one plane? It's unrealistic but interesting. Maybe escorted by some F22 for incoming SU35? Can you simulate with your team? Thanks in advance
No chance. Why would the GR want to run that scenario? They would destroy every single enemy before the enemy knew they were there. No one would EVER send modern gen 5 aircraft to fight in Ukraine. They're being sent 40 year old surplus stock. Think man.
@@valuedhumanoid6574 nothing is impossible in war... We also send modern Tanks and weapons in the battle. Why any NATO state should not send modern Planes? Ist only a run of time until the will Do. No one want the war in Western Europe
Hey I got an idea: How about "rat pack" teams, where each member is using a different jet and a specific part of the mission? Be cool to see all the jets showcasing their strengths/roles, in the same mission.
Do you realize that the terrain where you're *actually* operating is rather different from Crimea & southern Ukraine? There might not be residential areas modeled in DCS, but it appears the *terrain* is modeled at least somewhat correctly . . . it's much flatter! The NW Caucasus are much (much) more mountainous (as you can clearly see).
I think the Buccaneer is the best old sub sonic ground attack/strike plane and the Jaguar the best super sonic, or newer planes i.e. Tornado must be better than SU-24 although the F/A18 might be the best overall, for Ukraine.
I love the mission, really interesting. Now of course there are a few divergence with reality. SAM cover in Crimea has been severely depleted by constant Ukrainian attacks and, more recently, because Russia had to move several systems back to the Belgorod region, so if Ukraine was to dare such a raid, SAM cover would be weaker. I am not sure Super E could carry hammers even with some modification, but let's assume Ukrainians are really wonder mechs. What Super E could be used for is actually air to air refueling, they can be equipped with special tanks for this purpose. Of course the Mirage 2000 provided are the 2000-5, very much upgraded compared to the old 2000-C, so they could actually carry hammers or GBU guided bombs rather than dumb bombs, and they have much better ECM and radar.
IMHO, the reason Ukraine is getting several different types of aircraft is political. This will make it difficult for Ukraine to have a complete and effective air arm due to different training, different aircraft maintenance requirements, different pilot training and different tactics for each aircraft. This will take a degrees of heat off the Russians who, hopefully, will be less inclined to resort to the nuclear solution. If, for example, Ukraine got the Grippens, pilots are already trained, ground crews are already trained, logistics were most likely, on paper, established and weapons are mostly already on hand. This would and hopefully did cause the Russians to soil their pants. It's politics pure and simple, Gen Hodges is correct in saying, give Ukraine what they need to win and my spin on this is, and watch the mushroom clouds sprout, hopefully not.
Hi, Argentine here. I dont think we will actually send the Super Etendards! they arent in serviceable conditions and are desperately wanted by our navy, so yeah for now you wont really see ukrainian Super Etendards
I understand the anti Russian pro Ukrainian sentiment, but keep it real guys lol, WW2 tech is better then Russian tech in the simulations al of the sudden loll 😂

Thanks!
Switching airframes so often cant be easy and we thank you for trying, and succeeding with such apparent ease most of the time ^^
Also, I'd love to see an air to air skirmish opposing Mirages to US fighters, outside of our beloved Thunderdome arena ;-)
Last, but not least, the Rafale is supposed to be a much better, more versatile, more appreciated airplane compared to the old Mirage - although quite expensive, at about the same price per unit as the F35B. Is it available in DCS ? Will it be ? As far as I can recall, I haven't seen it in GR videos...

Thanks! For some reason I couldn't get any more range out of the Hammer.

Um that's what happens when you let the all American peoples champ lead the way. that American war fighting doctrine all the way.
30:47 I heard a click (which I assume was Cap pulling the trigger) when the sight was just short of the target, and then some clunks (bombs released) beyond the target. It would seem there was a delay in the release, and I imagine that's what sent them long.
I observed the same

Can we get this miz file?
The bombs didn't release until your path marker was in the bracket (aka you were flying level). That didn't happen until the ccip mark was past the targets, so they fell long
The article I read mentioned the Super Es would/could be used specifically retaking Crimea. Doing a mission to "Finish off the Russian Black Sea Fleet" using the Exocet missiles from the Super Es would be interesting.
Yeah, it's what they were made for so I think by far their biggest impact will be multiple weekly Exocet strikes on the Black Sea fleet.
Exocet is really old, it would have a tough time in a modern scenario like this
@@totalNERD-eo7wx modernised versions exists
@@Onezmhu That is true, but for now they are only mounted on warships' box launchers. Though I suppose it wouldn't be _that_ hard to upgrade them to that standard, I wonder if it would be easier to rig a Ukrainian Neptune missile with far greater range to the Super E

hi just wanted to say that there was a mistake in the video . the mirage that macron want to send are the mirage 2000-5F not the C-S ones . it does make a big difference because 5F can carry MICA IR or EM and have a way better radar (here it wasnt that important but still) plus it would have acces to HAMMER as well of GBU and mores air to ground weaponry. also isnt the mirage 2000 iusposed to have a MAWS system thanks to his magic 2 pylons ?
And unfortunately mica are really badly modeled physics wise
You need to give us a run down on the planes before each mission because I can not remember this stuff...
"Everything's going swimmingly Boys" Cap. Tonight. Here we go.....
Those Mirages look good in Ukrainian digi-camo!
Another way the UrAF could use the Etendard is as a buddy refueler for the Mirages, enabling long range strikes against Russian targets in Crimea and/or Kerch. (Could the GR simulate such a strike?)
France also retired their Etendards in 2016, don't know the material readiness of them but could possibly be part of a deal for Ukraine or possibly used as repair parts.
I won't be surprised if they Super Entendard are effective.
Irl they will more likely be Super Retarded 😂
The mirage 2k can also carry storm shadows which will probably be its main purpose, the super eetendard if they are sent will probably be modified to do the same.
That's the Greek, uae, and possibly the Indian version, not the French -5f
@@anonymous17367 even still, if the ukrainains can modify su 24s to carry storm shadows, then im pretty sure the french or ukrainians can modify the mirages.
It was spoken of what jets to send... well, I thought about the different marks of Tornado... but I answered my own question: swing wing aircraft maintenance... I wonder what aircraft that was mass produced could be given to them?
The only relevant type that is available in what you might call "mass-produced" numbers is F-16 variants

Hello valued RUclips content producers
I guess they might be useful as aggressors in training?
I wondered about the number of planes but they do not have many left. So maybe have one small strike group. UK cannot even afford to maintain the earlier version of Typhoon I heard.
Both are okay for ground attack but they would be no match for the Flankers.
Not every mission will be a victory, that's how war goes. Fun episode though!
@simba, you can fly them until they brake, but what if they break over enemy territory....
free planes right.

Warnings the 2000-5 is a pure fighter interceptor. It cannot carry air to ground armement!!! It is not a 2000C which can do both nor a 2000B or D which are bombers
hey, it woudl be cool that you make a second edition but more precisely and realisticly a day or another ! i spotted some errores that would have totaly changed the outcome fo the mission (i think)
1. the Mirage 2000-5 could be equipped with the AASM 250, france already tested it and you can find some picture of them carrying 5 GPS AASM and since the mirage 2000-5 has MFD etc, the integration of the AASM would not be this hard and the most likely to happen i think, im 99% sur the ukrainien wouldn't use the mirage with dumb bomb
2. the AASM loft, so instead of having 25 miles of range IRL it has 45 miles (at 50Kft aproximatively)
3. france will provide mirage 2000-5 not 2000C it make a huge difference in terme of modernity since the mirage 2000-5 has a better radar and AA missiles (not really usefull in this case since there is no air threat) but it could have helped with the bombes CCRP
4. for this one im not sure but i think you didn't well prepared the CCRP in the sens that your radar ground altitude wasn't showed and that there was wrote "arret radar" ("radar stop") on the bottom of the HUD, since the CCRP of the mirage work with the radar ground altitude, the CCRP wasn't showing an accurate target
(sorry for my english, the video was really cool tho !)
They likely won't be used, but again more France wanting to offer more planes to Ukraine to help fill a need
I wonder if the USMC/UK (if possible) will give Ukraine their older Harriers. Would be a fun jet for them and the S/VTOL would be pretty nice
Americans call every triangle shaped aircraft Dorito. It's annoying. It was fine for the A-12, but they cancelled it.
B-2 is a Dorito too imo
Maybe the Russians could dust off what Yak-38s are left in mothballs and deploy them to Ukraine because those aircraft were just - so good. (Yes that is sarcasm.)
It’s a GREAT DAY!
If only DCS still used the original LOMAC map, which had at least Crimea modeled with houses and runways and stuff.
Only 85 Super Etendards were built.
None of the Argentine EMS are operational! maybe only one but without cartridge for the seats...believe me, I'm Argentine
Think man.
5th gen planes are so good in DCS compared the 4th gen that we don't really like running it. It's just impossible for the 4th gen planes.

It's obvious why the bombs missed...."Reasons".

Mission Failed but big mouth

The reality is that these jets will likely be destroyed on the ground by Russian hypersonic missiles. Cool demonstration, though 🧡
