    ==June 7th Update==
    I'll leave our original post down below, but want to let everyone know the events which took place after we left the area on July 2nd.
    On 07/02/21 the body of 38-year-old Kevin Carlile has been recovered at Fern Ridge Reservoir. Family members assisting in the search located his body in the water at approximately 12:52pm quite a distance south of where he had last been seen. Sheriff’s Search and Rescue personnel responded and assisted with the recovery.
    Sheriff’s marine patrol and search and rescue resources were required at an unrelated in-progress water rescue incident on a separate body of water that morning.
    At approximately 12:59pm family members to the victim contacted Sheriff’s Office personnel and advised that they had located the victim on the surface of the water in a different part of the reservoir. This was determined to be closer to Perkin’s Penninsula or Signal Island. Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the family’s location and assisted in the recovery.
    ==============
    In regards to our interaction with the Deputy on July 2nd, we are satisfied that a Supervisor with the Sheriff's Office reached out to our organization and apologized for the way we were treated.
    At the end of the day, I personally am chalking it up to "we all have bad days" and hold nothing against the Deputy or the Lane County Sheriff's Office.
    I ask that anybody reading this feel the same and please do not reach out to their office any further via email, phone, or other social media.
    Thank you,
    Jared
    Original Post
    ==============
    "I DON'T LIKE YOU" are the words uttered by the Sherriff's Deputy after returning to the boat ramp this evening after the cameras were off.
    It started out with the Deputy walking up the ramp towards our RV and me meeting him halfway, hand outreached to shake his hand.
    "I'm not shaking your hand"...
    Taken back I ask is there a reason and what I may have done to upset this man I've never met before.
    With no real cause stated as to why he'd have such a negative attitude and conversation with me, I'm saddened to say we will not be returning to Fern Ridge Lake in the morning to continue our search.
    Can I say the target we saw on sonar is or is not Kevin? I don't know for I did not dive, putting my own eyes and hands on the target
    Am I confident that if we had another, 3, 6, or maybe even 12 more hours to continue running out our sonar searches, diving on our own targets to verify, that we'd find Kevin... 100% You Bet!
    At the end of the day, we are here to serve and not showboat or be cowboys. With 3 law enforcement agencies coming back in tomorrow, we can only hope for a quick recovery so the family can move forward from this unfortunate time in their lives.
    We'll be moving a few hours north in the morning in hopes of helping another family during their own difficult time.
    Thank you all for your support.
    -Jared

      Not sure if I should like or dislike your comment? What is the attitude from him, for?? Surely if they wanted to find the body to give the family closure they would have been there for the last couple of days. Instead they waited for someone else to do the Job. Appreciate your videos. You've never l, ever show boated, gloated, or have done anything in any of your videos, and I have watched y'all from the beginning and seen every video y'all have ever done. As well as Sam Sam and Dan! This whole thing just wreaks of being cruel towards y'all and no reason for such actions from them! It's just my opinion and with sadness these unfortunate events take place, and heaven forbid, if anything happens to any of their families, they should be so lucky to have y'all as their search team! Period! Y'all are the best I've ever seen with the least intentions of wanting anything for bragging rights, or anything else to prove yourselves, but to help bring, in Jared words, "resolution"! Don't let them bully you. Y'all are nothing but humble to anyone who you have helped and to any LE, and there have been a few I've wanted to reach through my phone and slap for y'all! Take care and god bless you and your time away from your families to always have the intent to help others in their times of need!

      @@rainman7992 so are the police, undertakers/funeral homes, burial plot owners, morgues, autopsies and so many more people. If they didn't make money, then how could they possibly deal with the dead? If they can't support themselves, just saying; you don't want that, there would be carnage and force the families to deal with their dead themselves. So many people would have to be exposed to death in a way, that most people would prefer not to.
      So i say, good, as long as they aren't being disrespectful with the deceased- which they aren't- then I'm glad they can support themselves as they support the community. Have you thought of that?

    I live just 20 minutes from Fern Ridge (otherwise known as "The dirty ditch" to locals) and have spent many summers in our boat wakeboarding along the dam in this same location. In fact, my first time on a boat was at this lake. My heart was in my throat the entire time I was watching this video. I am so sorry for the loss of Kevin and I appreciate all you do to help so many families find their loved ones. I am sorry that you two were treated the way you were by the LCSO....Bad day or not, there was no excuse for it. I've watched enough of your videos to know that you don't do this for kudos, you do this for the pure love of helping people, so I'm ashamed that you were treated that way by one of our local Sheriff's deputies. Thank you for the constant reminder to wear a life jacket. If there's anything to come out of this, I can assure you that my two boys will learn this from a very young age and we will lead by example EVERY SINGLE TIME we are in, on, or near the water. Sending you much love and appreciation from Eugene.
    RIP Kevin. I hope your family and loved ones find comfort and peace in the midst of your loss. 💔

      I grew up spending a lot of time on the water with my dad. I absolutely hated wearing our life jackets, and took every opportunity to remind my dad about it. He was great... It was fine for me to hate it, as long as I was wearing it. He taught me from an early age that accidents happen, but you need to plan ahead as much as possible... So I wore the stinky, uncomfortable vest and was safer. 😁

    That is not the attitude a person that serves the people, should have towards ANYONE trying to help! He needs to be taken out of that job, and replaced! You know, if the family was upset that you had a camera, all they had to do, was to say so! I hate to say it, but I think the family might of complained, which mystifies me, as if it was MY brother, I'd want anyone, and everyone trying to find him, even if there were cameras! Maybe HE wanted the recognition for finding him, which he should of said! And if they found him, why wait? And who looks at a stump for fifteen minutes? The whole thing is weird! Based on the reaction by the family on the boat and the fact that they didn’t go back until after Jared & Doug found something, leads me to believe there is a much different story then what came out on the news. There is a reason they didn’t want Jared to do the dive and I believe it was to hide the truth, but since Jared & Doug went out there and there became so much public knowledge they felt they had to suddenly go back out or too many questions would be asked. I am a huge supporter of law enforcement but there are A LOT of questions about this situation sadly and they were wrong for how they treated Jared and Doug.

      Especially our PD's are experts at hiding things more often than exposing things. Money talks, power influential. With all that, mistakes are made that make police, not just look bad, but incompetent. The same powers that be, shut down LivePD. Don't know about others, but I saw "a lot" of excessive force and prejudice within the PD's.
      I bet anything, that this particular case of drowning you'd find that somebody associated with the family have an intimate relationship with the local PD on some level. Our PD's are grasping for situations that make them look every penny, worthy of their hire.

    I just found this site yesterday and then this lengthy episode, which in all honesty sort of freaked me out and brought back some long buried memories. I came very close to drowning at Fern Ridge way back in the summer of 1972, and some of the shots, particularly those showing the sun going down over the lake were eerie to me. Late afternoon/early evening 4 of us (all teens) decided to paddle across the reservoir in a homemade 4-person fiberglass canoe. Starting at a canal/slough area that is a wildlife preserve on the east side of the lake, we ultimately paddled onto the reservoir and began crossing at perhaps its widest point east to west (I'm guessing maybe 2-3 miles across.) Of course, being 16-18 years old, none of us wore life jackets...and worse, one of us couldn't even swim. To make a long story shorter, we ended up tipping the canoe over after some horsing around...approx halfway across. Making sure to grab our non-swimming friend and holding onto the canoe we were confident we could tip it rightside up again but after an exhausting 20-30 minutes of trying discovered we couldn't...the thing was just too heavy. The boat had two air pockets (front & rear) and one collapsed almost immediately, leaving 4 increasingly alarmed kids swimming in tight circles around the single front tip of the canoe...and it was getting dark and the wind had picked up, creating small whitecaps on the lake. Anyway, there's more to the saga but once realizing we were in serious trouble we began yelling for help because to this day although I think I could have made it to shore, there was no way our non-swimmer could have, and we were all so tired by that time, I don't think any of us could have helped him make it ashore. Thankfully, someone on shore heard us and called the sheriffs dept, who came and saved us after about a half hour of dod-paddling, towing the heavy canoe in. All told, we were in the water for about an hour and a half and what started as fun and horseplay almost ended in total tragedy. I've remained friends with all those in the lake with me that night and thinking particularly of the friend who can't swim, sometimes consider how all our lives (his future wife, kids, and family) would have changed forever that night and it gives me the chills. I live in Washington state now and raised four boys of my own but that incident made me crazy about making sure they never went close to water without life jackets and they all learned to swim at a very early age. Anyway, seeing this video (it all looks the same) with the sun going down was really strange. And, oh, yes...the sheriff was not the niceest guy either, but he had good reason not to be...that said, the guy in this video shouldn't be in law enforcement. Sorry, too long a tale but it's still a vivid experience even after all these years...and these guys are true heroes for the work they do to help grieving families through some awful moments in their lives. So sorry for the loss of life here...R.I.P.

They had to come back and have Jared relocate the car for them. Talk about having egg on their face! I thought that guy was a big enough man though to come back and apologize after the fact.
    I hate that this happened; this isn't the first time you've gone through this and sadly, I'm sure it won't be the last time. I just buried my 20 yr. retired police officer brother-in-law, Ken. Jared would probably say this also, don't lump all the good police and sheriff officers and their departments together with the really small amount of total JERK individuals.

    I unfortunately was unable to watch the live so I'm watching now. I'm at 1:21:33 where they are talking about people asking why are they doing this and not allowing the Police Departments do it. As they were saying not a lot of PD's have had the adequate training and if you are a follower of this channel they have touched on this many times. I'm going to speak on something people may not want to hear and that is everyone is so quick to jump on the bandwagon of defunding the police departments. What do you think is the first things to go??? The water rescue teams and any other departments within the PD's that can save money then its the staff. Also, I don't even have a clue on this answer but I would like to know how many PD/SO's even have a water recue unit or access to one. I'm sure its not as great of a number that we all wish it was. AWP is providing an amazing service to this country. And, no I'm not with or have family members that are in law enforcement. I just observe and listen. There is no way most small counties or towns can have access to water rescue. Most can barely keep the doors open. I want to ask those who are so quick to jump on here and question these amazing men to please stop and think about what you are about to say and then think about it again. They are giving up time with their families to help bring loved ones home. I can't even imagine having someone missing and not have a team like AWP to turn to. Thank you Jared, Sam, Dan and everyone else involved with AWP for what you have done, what you did in this video and what you continue to do. Keep up the good work.

When we took our boat out to the inlet water a few weeks ago, he got out of boat to put stern anchor out, the current was so strong he had to hold on to the anchor rope to keep from being swept out to the Atlantic. And we were in water just below the waste at an island. So don't think because you can reach and are in shallow water nothing will happen, it can. I appreciate all you guys do.

    Oh and by the way the person I was with he drowned. You don't ' need to know how to swim. If you can bicycle your legs and move your arms that's swimming. That will keep you afloat. Just move your legs move your arms. You don't have to move them around wild just move them. Pick a spot in the horizon and swim towards it don't take your eye off the target. That's the advice my friend gave me before he drowned. And it saved my life

    I was in a very serious boating accident many years ago we did a lot of stupid things that led up to the boat sinking well that's kind of besides the point. Best advice I would give anybody is get control of yourself and do not panic. Panic will kill you. I panicked at first and then got a hold of myself. Panic will keep you from thinking. All I needed to do was swim. And that's what I did. But panic seriously I would have drowned . No doubt I would have drowned if I had continued to panic. Keep your wits about you.

    Just to let you know I'm happy y’all are talking about safety and wearing life jackets. So very important. I remember a time when I was a teenager and I went with my friend and her family on a vacation to the Rio Grande. We begged her mom to let us go down to the water and she only let us go after we promised not to get in the water. Well being teenagers we started wadding in and the current started pulling us both further out. We started screaming and her family had to come in after us. My friend had three older brothers and they along with her father had to come help us. It's something I'll never forget. The current pulled me one way while pulling her another. Her family went after her first and then me. I'm not sure how many times my friend was pulled under but I know it was at least 3 times for me. I just kept kicking and fighting and it finally pulled me down to a part of land I could get up on, then I waited for them to come get me with the boat. We were both lucky to be alive along with her father and brothers. So very thankful and know God was there for us. Needless to say though we left to come back home the next morning. I think it messed up her dad's health after that. I love the water and not afraid of it but sure have a greater respect for it. Thank all of you for teaching a strong support for life jackets. Love your show and all yall do. ❤

    Here's a thought too.. when the sheriff said leave you should've said ok give me my anchor and buoy and line. It's my property and it's not needed if it's only marking a tree stump.. right??? Hell it's not needed if it's marking a victim either. If it's your property take it with you and let them drop there own sheriff department anchor and buoy and marker. If they tell you to leave, fine leave and take your stuff with you.. it isn't needed, unless they tied the victim to it! And listen, who says other people can't search for a missing drowning victim? You mean to tell me some sheriff is gonna tell me I can't have other dive teams go search for my kid or dad or brother if they drowned somewhere?? I'd tell him to go pound sand up his ass quicker than anything. There ain't no law prohibiting anyone from helping search for a victim and If their IS some law it needs to be changed. And if some sheriff ever tries to tell me I can't have some dive team help locate my family member he'll be looking for a new job because that's bullshit.
