  • This is an HD small game hunting video. This is a video of me shooting grouse and rabbits in central Wisconsin in 2016. My GoPro battery died half way through my hunt so I did the best I could with my camera phone after that.

    First dogless grouse hunt I've seen on RUclips. And excellent video. I hunted grouse for four years in Central NY but I didn't bag a single one. Flushes were rare (generally one per day, and I covered a lot of land. Our state forests have much denser brush and trees than you show here. Birds were gone in 1/4 second. Only bird I managed to drop fell in the middle of an acre sized patch of chest high thorns. I tried to get to him, but got torn up something fierce.

    Young man it does my heart good to see some young adults out hunting as well as trapping and fishing. My Dad moved us out of town and into the farm country. I started hunting, trapping and fishing on my own at age thirteen and I would do it all over again and never change a thing. I'm 66 and I still hunt and fish and would trap if I had the place to do so. Keep hunting, trapping and fishing and you'll live a fulfilled life.

    From one hunter to another: Great job!!! I share the same sentiments about hunting as you do. I've passed it on to my son and now working on my 7 year old grandson. Thanks for all the effort you put into making this video for us to enjoy. Cheers from Dixie!

    Never had that kind of luck in CT. Grouse are sparse now and I'm too old to beat the bush. Congratulations! Years ago I hunted ducks and pheasants along the Rock River around Ashputin (un-incorporated, 1972,1973). Wisconsin had it all over CT.

    One of the best videos I have seen on small game hunting, even if the GoPro failed, and you didn't get any birds on the wing. Thank you for the experience.
    I wish I could hunt where you do. I started hunting 5 years ago, in Central NY State, and have yet to get a single bird. I NEVER find any rabbits. They don't seen to exist here. Like you, I am hunting without a dog. I don't know anyone who will let me hunt on their land, so I hunt state forests. It is RARE when I see a bird, and then for only 2/10 of a second, max. More often I hear them take off, and never spot them. I'm very quiet, but they generally flush 40 to 50 yards in front of me. They are always within 5 to 10 feet of DENSE DARK WOODS or BRUSH, and they are in it before I can raise my gun. By dense I mean it makes the area you hunted in your video, look like the wide open plains.
    My efforts aren't helped by the fact that I have bad health problems. In fact, I am wondering if this will be my last season. Sure would like to get a bird before I go.

      I had a little bit of difficulty finding time to go when I lived in the Portland (OR) Metro area. This last year, however, I moved to Alaska and I went hunting at least twice a week this fall. Got tons of grouse, a few ducks, and a moose. No rabbits yet though.

      @@chrisvanek7877 - hell ya man, that’s awesome….Alaska is one of the best places to life if your a hunter! I can’t decide if I want a 12 gauge or 20. It’ll be just for weekend fun shooting clays, rabbit hunting and home protection. Nothing fancy, just a simple pump action. I feel 12 might be overkill for rabbits but I know you can get pretty light loads.

    • @petenrock

      Head. I recommend wearing it on the head so that it captures everything you see. gun mounts and chest mounts miss some action.

    • @packbadge
      @packbadge 8 лет назад

      petenrock That I agree with. And I have done all three but I am bad about being conscious about the camera. I forget its there when I am doing things so when ever its on my head I am looking all over the place and theres ALOT of movement in the footage. Thats my problem though, I just need to be more aware haha. I am posting a video tonight of a pigeon hunt that I did and if you get a chance to watch it you will see that I had the camera on my barrel and I forgot to keep it pointed at the birds while they fall because a few of them I shot and right away brought the gun across my chest haha

    • @petenrock
      @petenrock  8 лет назад +1

      +A True Wisconsinite I'll check out that video and yeah the head movement is tough and even if your conscious of the camera it's still bothersome in the videos. Just the time spent trying to capture footage costs us game and fish when we're messing around with cameras. A lot of times I just leave the cameras home but then I miss good footage and regret it. Or worse yet, I'm wearing the camera and haven't turned it on. I accidentally snuck right up on a black bear this last fall and didn't have the camera on.

    • @packbadge
      @packbadge 8 лет назад +1

      petenrock Tell me about it! I haven't used my GoPro for a couple of months because it can be such a pain to mess with when you are already trying to make sure you have everything else you need before your go into the woods. I could of swore that you had it on your chest because your footage is nice and still! So good on you.

      @christophera5023 7 лет назад

      I've used 20 and 12 gauge for grouse and rabbits, if your close it's important to make head shots but as long as you aim well shouldn't be an issue, if you hit something in the gut cleaning it sooner rather than later so no guts will be soaking into any meat would be good. He's using a 20 in this video and doesn't appear to blast any of the game too bad

    • @northernselfreliance6943
      @northernselfreliance6943 7 лет назад

      Brandi Peterson he most likely eats them. Rabbits and grouse are very tasty. Once you kill the grouse lay the grouse one the ground with the breast facing up. Spread the wings open and Step on the wings close to the breast and then slowly and steadily pull the legs and the grouse will come right apart. Then cook it up and eat it :) for a rabbit pinch the fur on the back and make a cut. Put your fingers in the hole and pull in opposite directions and the fur will come right off easily. Cut the head and feet off. Now open up the rabbit and remove the guts and organs inspect the liver to make sure it is not spotty. Sometimes rabbits will have a disease and you can tell if their liver is full of white spots. If it is spotty do not eat the rabbit. If no spots then go ahead and cook it up :)

You sound like the Jews and anti-semitism. No one will take your guns away especially in the midwest hunting states where the state needs the money. They need to take guns away if your a gangster in the cities . Most mass killings are from crazy white guys with AR's who have idiot victim families who don't know how to lock up their guns. You can get those big ziplock storage bags and seal the rabbits in that before carrying them on you while you hunt and that contains the fleas. Some of those bunnies are totally infested.

      CHASE 26Gen4
      Yeah, I hunt public and private. I grew up on the opposite side of Petenwell so I can get on a lot of private ground from people I know.
