Large scale of desal plant needs support infrastructure. They need to cart the by products to land instead of dumping it to sea. It's big energy eater. Need more research. Singapore is doing some great research on desal.

Of course, in the Chicago area we don't have any shortage of water, but in areas that do, recycling like this could drastically reduce the need for "new" water. The problem with Saudi Arabia is that countries like UAE and Qatar have been pushing ahead with their diversification much earlier than Saudi Arabia, so the "middle eastern tourism heavens" titles have been snapped up by those countries. These countries have managed to build up a hospitality brand by means of their airlines, which have developed their fame all around the world. I mean, airlines like Emirates and Etihad (UAE flag carriers) and Qatar airways (flag carrier of Qatar) have done HUMONGOUS levels of publicity of the hospitality for UAE and Qatar. But the thing is, Saudi Arabia doesn't have such international level of hospitality reputation that UAE and Qatar have. This makes it disadvantageous for Saudi Arabia to attempt to diversify. Also, apparently, there were gigantic aquifers under the Arabian peninsula which were formed almost 10,000 to 15,000 years ago when the monsoons were more northern oriented. However, Saudi Arabia, in its desperate bid for food security, drained up large quantities of those aquifers to irrigate its fields to the point that almost 60%-70% of those aquifers are depleted now, forcing Saudi Arabia to shift its food to other countries, and to increasingly rely on its desalination plants. It also has to plan for new plants to cover for this deficit as well. Some back of the hand calculations have said that Saudi Arabia if being forced to use almost 25% of the oil it produces just to power the desalination plants because of its water scarcity, which is projected to increase further to around 50% when the aquifers inevitably run out by the 2030s and the kingdom is forced to rely entirely on desalination. This would be disastrous if the Saudis don't diversify its energy mix quick enough. Also, there has been some argument by experts who claim that Saudi Arabia is fudging its numbers and inflating its claims of its oil reserves by almost 40%, which puts the kingdom in a bigger problem.
>>>Investing in the stock market is the best option to make a passive income. Virtually all the markets are crazy, most people pay more attention to the shiniest position on the graph, I'm keeping a diversified portfolio.
The Line is just a part of NEOM. I think most of the points made are based on what has been published in some sections of Western media. The location of Neom is very important. For that you have to understand the Geography of the region. Have fun speculating on outcomes.
They started promoting tourism lately . I have seen some Indian influencers being flown to Saudi for promotion. they have roped big B it seems (he was the chief guest in Al Nassar PSG game ). But it would be difficult to challenge Dubai dominance
The idea that it has to challenge Dubai is a myth. Many of the western visitors in Saudi are based in Dubai. If they succeed, they can create a hub in the Middle East that connects Neom, Dubai, and possibly Israel as the major business hubs in west Asia.
Great things come out of people who consolidate power the greater the power the greater the output, people might observe this accumulation of power as a negative thing but it truly depends on what is done through it, usually any great achievement is attributed to a person. as a citizen I have noticed many impressive changes in the government services they are quicker and more advanced, even the prevention of many security leaks concerning corruption and privately owned organisations, i wish if only there would be focus on the quality of the streets, but i guess neom is on the priority ladder now.
I disagree, it would have been worse if he decided not to do anything and just sit on the glass throne he has right now to accidentally shatter anything. I agree this is a gamble but considering they are not rich for nothing, I am sure they had the best advisors in the world before announcing this plan to the rest of the world
I work in Saudi Government sector and I can assure that there are many more initiatives taken by Saudi Govt. to diversify economy away from oil. NEOM and Qiddya are just few headline grabbing projects, but Saudi have many projects going on in industrial sector, chemicals, manufacturing and recently in IT services industries. Recent announcements from Microsoft and Oracle to establish regional data centers and invest billions of dollars is a testament. Moreover, there isn't 63% unemployment, many Saudis gave entered the job market and performing jobs at all levels. The skillset of Saudis have greatly improved compared a decade ago. Things are moving in right direction and it is just not the construction projects Saudi depends on. Moreover, Saudi Arabia is rich in other minerals too, which has been greatly untapped
What is also worth mentioning is the environmental implication of this project. The Line essentially is a 170 Km long and 468 meters high glass wall cutting through the desert, fragmenting its biodiversity, and endangering migratory species living there. Also, in a region where temperatures can go as high as 55 degree Celsius, one can only imagine the massive amount of energy it would require to cool down this 170 Km long greenhouse.

Lack of Women’s rights 5. Lack of religious freedom 6. Countless Political prisioneros including: Walid Fitaihi, Hassan al-Maliki, Samar Badawi and Nassima al-Sada.
It deserves to be mentioned that Saudi has one of the lowest costs of oil production in the world. They can keep making money even if the price of oil falls to 30 dollars. The break even point shown in the video is the fiscal break even point where the cost of the country's social programs is added into it. As rightly stated in the video Saudi's societal problems are supported by oil income and that support is drawn from Saudi Aramco the oil producing company. The video should have also mentioned all the earlier cities that were conceived and came to a halt. And 7 years seems to be a short span for the city to be close to completion in any reasonable way.

Hi Thinkschool, Please make the correction as the breakeven cost mentioned in the video isn’t related to actual production cost. The cost mentioned in the video is Fiscal Breakeven cost which basically means the minimum price of the oil per barrel at which Saudi Arabia has to sell in the given fiscal to meet the budget requirements without going into deficit. The actual production cost for Saudi Arabia is around 9-10 dollar per barrel. You can triangulate the data from the Saudi Aramco Financials statement.

Most cities have power failure every once in a while. If the power fails in the line during summer, Neom will become a huge oven and we can expect many thousands of deaths. 💀
That’s because of poor backup. Nuclear reactors and other important facilities have backup power for days and weeks. I’m sure they plan to have a backup source, that would be basic planning.
When I worked at NEOM it was a Metaverse project. I think the NEOM architecture is inspired by Anthills. Even they have a small footprint maximizing the use of the enclosed space. Plants and animals don’t really care about our labels of north, south, east, or west. They are however very sensitive to their environment and they always reflect it. Light, heat, water, and food change the way all nature behaves. And this is the key to finding direction in many species. Ant hills can be used as a "rough compass" or navigation aid by observing the direction in which the ants are entering and exiting the hill. In the Northern Hemisphere, ants typically enter their hills facing south, and in the Southern Hemisphere, they tend to enter facing north. However, it's important to note that this is not a reliable or precise method of navigation and other methods should be used. :)

GPT-3: No, desalination is not inherently toxic. There are several ways to desalinate water in a clean way. These include reverse osmosis, distillation, and nanofiltration. All of these methods involve passing the water through a filter to remove the salt and other contaminants. As long as the filter is properly maintained, the process should be safe and clean.
Or.. just let the water evaporate in bassins and then remove the salt and fill the bassins again. Way more cheaper and effective. But the Arabians have swallowed the techno babble, I'm afraid.
I think this would be a good reason why Saudi Arabia is considering joining the BRICS. By being part of BRICS the carbon tax would have little affect on them as they would be trading with countries such as China, Russia, India, South Africa, Brazil etc. China has just signed a large trade deal with them and has huge investment potential.

Hi Thinkschool,
Please make the correction as the breakeven cost mentioned in the video isn’t related to actual production cost.
@Imara Chaturvedi "The break even term mentioned in the video is FISCAL breakeven and not just break even!! :)

GPT-3:
No, desalination is not inherently toxic. There are several ways to desalinate water in a clean way. These include reverse osmosis, distillation, and nanofiltration. All of these methods involve passing the water through a filter to remove the salt and other contaminants. As long as the filter is properly maintained, the process should be safe and clean.
