Video looks great, update looks killer. Very glad to see workflow being given priority, hot sexy new features are nothing if the machine is clunky and frustrating to use. Also amazing (and unfortunately very rare) to see real value being placed on user feedback. Awesome job, looking forward!
I'm glad Brad and Mickey stuck to old school time stretch to complement the S2400's character. The thought of sterile time stretch should be best left to DAW's processing power. Thanks for the grime! Much respect to team Isla!
I guess the reason for going for the old school type is because cyclic time stretching is the easiest one to implement. I'm sure when theres enough time to implement a higher quality one we will have the option to choose and keeping it old school wasn't that important after all :-P
I hope you guys Keep making improvements to keep the Isla s2400 community alive for yrs to come its a Great product and it is def a needed piece in the #hiphop community I look forward to mines arriving soon~
amazing update. i absolutely love these workflow enhancements, well done! would be nice if the step sequencer also gets a little bit more love further down the line.
Hmm so I'm a bit confused. Can real time quantize to enabled/disabled by the user or is it off completely? Can't wait to test out the time stretch feature. Sounds wild. To be honest the only features I want to see implemented are the ability to somehow be able to "stack" more than one sound per channel. Even with 8 voice polyphony you can only have one sound at a time per track. It would be nice to be able to have a snare hit on say Pad A, Bank A and a clap sound on Pad A, Bank B. This way you can run two sounds concurrently through that single channel. This would be helpful with the individual outputs as well. Not sure if this is a hardware limitation though. The next feature I'd love to see is an arpeggiator. This is one of my favorite things to do with my Tempest. The ability to hold down two pads with an open hi hat on one and closed hi hat on the other and the random arpeggiator creates it's own unique hi hat pattern. This is also beneficial with fills as well. Holding down multiple pads in Pitch mode on say a conga sample or tom sample and it creates a wild fill. I'll be doing my review video in a few weeks here and I'll go into both these in a bit more detail.
The real time quantize they got rid of isn’t what you’re thinking it is (see the bug report forum post and my reply below). Great suggestions on the stacking sounds and arp, make some forum posts!
I would also add/clarify -> a vocal "constructive" critic. The unit is a blast, and as long as the quirks (I am direct and unapologetic about those) are steadily addressed I will definitely be happy in the long term.
I’m still yet to take the plunge on the S2400, but one thing I’d love to see (if it’s not already there) that would probably tip me over the edge is nudge in the TR mode. I make wonky, swingy hip hop and like to dial in my own groove rather than relying on global swing settings…
@@ISLAInstruments Thanks for the reply Brad/Isla team. While that is definitely a great feature, I often like to have a sort of randomness to the timing of, let’s say, hi-hats. It could be the first, second and third 1/8 notes are a little behind straight quantisation but the fourth is even a bit later. I know this incredible machine already has live unquantised recording but it’d be so dope to be able to slightly adjust notes’ timing via the TR sequencer (e.g press and hold a note and slide it slightly forward or back on some sort of micro-resolution scale). I know this is an SP1200 update but this something you can do with a digitakt and op-z which I briefly owned. It’s just these machines sound nothing like what I’ve heard of this beauty 😎
I’ve got an MPC 3000, an akai s950, an ASR10, Maschine, and Ableton push. So I really don’t need this unit. But damned if I don’t want one. And if I keep watching these videos I’m gonna cave.
Fantastic product but could you release a more afforable version with say a cheaper chassis to reduce the costs?. Around say £600 bucks may sell bucketloads.
Great tech demands higher prices. Stretching this smaller team in two directions would water down the current product. The s2400 selling a lot is the best chance for a smaller product in the future so please save up and support the S2400 first and foremost. That's what I'm doing as I want Isla to be around a long time. If you wait then Isla might lose their momentum and you won't get any future products. That's the hard truth about releasing a product in the world.
thats what the mpc one is for. for something like the s2400, i think the price is awesome. you'll never get this quality from a 600 bucks kind of maschine.
@@jeanbeezy The only thing for me is the 12 bit depth but overall it is a superb unit. I will wait for behringer to make a clone for around £500 bucks ha ha.
Mostly this looks awesome, but you’ve removed real time quantize not made it optional? I’m confused, that sounds like a nightmare to me as it’s something I lean on a lot, then adding swing etc after. How do you work with it now? Am I missing something here?
@@deastman2 yeah it seems strange right? Hoping I've misread this. Because I would have thought people who want it off would be in the minority not the other way round...
The current firmware tries to quantize sounds right as you hit them, making a bit of a mess. The updated firmware should work just like an MPC or SP where the sounds play right as the pads are hit when recording and are quantized automatically on the first repeat of the sequence. You can still go in and add swing right after recording, and even lock tap-repeat if you want the machine to try to fix your hits right as you play them.
I’m still on og firmware. I reckon I’ll be Loading this bad boy after this vid. What about some kind of plastic lcd protector? Mine keeps getting a little dust on it and I’m reluctant to wipe it, even super gently. Incase I scratch it. Other than that little gripe, this machine is tha shit! x
I recently applied the July patch ... quite possibly the easiest firmware update I have administered to date. Now I am only two patches behind ... again! 😅👍
