Just to sum up the differences, the traditional method is more simple, but the new method generally gets cleaner results - Hope that helps :)

Probably the best zbrush tutorials around. Clear, fast and on point.

I love how for this *and* Blender you always present multiple ways of doing it and discuss the trade-offs.

Omfg this was so helpful. I’m getting into doing miniatures and got easily lost in 30-45 min videos when I just needed bits from them. 10/10 Thank you so much.

If you have Zbrush 2021.7 or more you can also use the mesh project brush to create faster new geometry on your existing mesh. Basically extract feature but with a brush and much faster.

Dude, that is slick. I especially like that you showed both methods. I wasn't onboard with the second method until I saw how much kinder it would be on your pipeline. Thanks again!

Going the panel loops workflow, how do i seperate the armor mesh? As soon as i click panel loops it shows the body that was hidden and they are still same subtool.

    Great tutorial, thanks!
At 1:42, how do you go from the panel-loop mesh (which still contains the masked skin of the character underneath) to isolating the newly constructed mesh (without the masked skin of the character)? 'Split unmasked points' doesnt work.
    Thanks a lot! 🙂

Found the answer. I had to go to 'Polygroups' then 'Auto Groups'. Thanks again for the very useful tutorials!

Holy crap - This is the type of tutorial i've always wanted, I hate when someone just shows you how to do it and not explain what the options are, or it takes like 3 hours to get through each part. Do you have something similar for removing a part(so if the armor was part of the arm already and you wanted to separate it into a new part?

I wanna comment on the polygroup method: before Panel loop, you should delete all the rest of the polygroups to make it a stand alone armor subtool.

Safe to say that if you're extracting and then planning on dynameshing, you can just go with method 1.

In English, if one wants to find EXTRACT, would one search EDGE LOOP? ZBrush Does not need to duplicate similar function for EXTRACT. Please make the existing commands better and get rid of ALL DUPLICATED COMMAND, make clean and simplified UI.
