I half disagree n agree because i think that players on bad teams can seem that there better than they actually are since noone to help them they have to carry but yea ur kinda right
Nah. If you list out the star players in the 2000s and compare it to now, it's not even close. 2000s was the most talented era, and I say that as someone who preferred 80s and 90s hoops.
i had the same feeling some time ago, normally half of the teams wouldnt have any intangible talent in their rosters, but today even bottomfeeders like rockets have jalen green, pacers have haliburton, even wagner/anthony makes it promising and detroit has cade, all of these guys have all star potential. not adding the 1000 picks thunder ahs aswell.
My take.....the league is mostly full of players who specialize in something that keeps them in the game at this level while the overall ability of the player is half-ass at best. The league is soft with multiple rule changes to discourage defense and the possibility of stars getting hurt. For every KD that goes into traffic to take a higher percentage mid-range shot, you've got 5 hacks who are afraid to go to the rim on a fast break so they pull up at the 3 point line and shoot with 3 defenders under in the lane. A handful of real great and well rounded players, and a bunch of guys putting up stats while not being guarded or who padded their stats for years by excessive traveling and kicking their legs out to get get foul calls. LeBron is the current generation's "GOAT" and he flops like a European soccer hack.

It’s very impactful, but that’s just the showiest aspect of it. His numbers are off the chart as a whole - PER, WAR, offensive win share, defensive win share - and mark him as the clear MVP.
@@daisy5497 You could say he’s playing at an mvp level but he’s not over Jokic, luka, embid, giannis, or booker.(you could also debate derozan and Tatum over curry for mvp)
Hot take: Luka is the literal definition of MVP. When he can drag a team of role players to the 4th seed, and then to the WCF. Without Luka, that certainly doesn't happen, as the mavericks eat sleep and breathe Luka. You can make an argument for Jokic in the same conte context, which is good since it shows that the award functions as it should
@@BenDovahkin it happens no worries. but that loss shouldn't really matter when 2 other MVP favorites lost early. Jokic losing in round 16 and Giannis also losing in the same round as Luka doesn't seem to altar their MVP Candicy, so why should it affect Lukas?

Fuck it's worse in sports where they don't even pay you enough to survive playing the sport you're good at. The whole Simon Biles thing really put a lot of things in perspective for me.
Jimmy I would love to see you make a video about injuries. I can't help but feel that players are missing a lot more games in recent seasons when compared to the 90s/2000s. I feel like the outcome of the playoffs each year now just depends on which teams stay healthy.
Jimmy actually has a similar video from some years ago, about the most impactful injuries in nba history fx Curry's glass ankles and The Curse of Golden State
Most NBA stars don't care about the fans. MJ famously said how he could never take a game off b/c there were people in those stands who waited/saved up for years, just to see him play once. In addition, I think back in the day, most athletes played different sports year round, meaning different muscles were getting worked out at different times and no particular body parts/muscles/tendons were being overworked. Today's athletes are mostly made to focus on the one sport that gives them the best shot at a scholarship and directed by their parents to just focus on that, 365 days a year, which means certain body parts getting over worked and susceptible to injury.

I’m with the KD take. He’s my favorite player in the league just because he’s like a player I created every year in NBA2k every year that came to life. Being that tall and that skilled is unbelievable. Plus the fact that when shut gets hard he rises to the occasion damn near every time.
The way people just make shit up lmao, trying to paint KD as a guy that steps up when shit gets hard is hilarious given that after losing to the 73-9 Warriors he literally said "fuck it" and joined them. When shit gets hard he runs to join the team that made it hard for him
The Thunder were never going to be able to win with the team they had and that shot made them realise that. now look how bright their future is looking. I'd argue he saved them from being a middle of the road team
Exactly. The only thing that makes Stockton look good is longevity and playing with Karl Malone. Lebron absolutely claps him when it comes to sustaining longevity.
Please steal the ball away again from the opposite team's best scorer in Game 6 of the finals please. The Bucks community shall canonize you, Giannis, and Kash Money Middleton at the end of your respective careers.

Hot take: there aren't enough teams in the NBA for how much talent there is and how much the game has grown in the past few decades. There were 27 teams in 1989 to 29 teams in 1995 to 30 teams all the way since 2004. However, the NBA has no reason to make more teams and try to start new franchises as economically it wouldn't benefit them much to start over with new teams that would take a while for anybody to actually get invested in.

This NBA season has been the best (as in most exciting, enjoyable and evenly matched) season in the last 10 years, mabye the last 15. I really feel like anyone could take home the chip this year. Im sco hyped for the playoffs
i second this. I believe that sports have evolved so much that there’s no such thing as a bad team anymore. There’s at least one All-Star type caliber player in every single NBA team. players chemistry is not a problem anymore as most of these players have played together or against each other one In high school &/or in college. look at the regular season stats. look at how competitive the East is now when five years ago people could say the East was not competitive at all. Look at the Nets. Have one of the best rosters yet they have to compete in the playing in order to make it to the playoffs. Now look at the suns. Three years ago they were one of if not the worst team in the league. No they have the best record in the league. Same thing with my Milwaukee Bucks. We literally developed one of the best players to ever play in this league and went from one of the worst to the NBA champions. And now is serious contender every year for the championship. The only difference between the Suns and the Bucks is that the Suns acquired a veteran all star, and most likely a Hall of Famer, who instilled resilience and confidence in a young team. But Devin Booker is their developed star and they would not be anything without him in the roster. The league is in its best years and I don’t see it going down anytime soon.
@@jonnyhendrix7930 bro you could go on and on, grizzlies, hawks, mavs, Celtics. so much young talent it’s insane. The league has improved so much with the depth in all their rosters
Even on the winningest team in the league, Devin Booker is still one of the most under rated players currently playing. No one does more with less recognition
But the Suns are winning not by Booker completely dominating and carrying them to wins, it's much more of a team effort and great coaching even though Book is having an MVP caliber year

Hot take: if a player is injured often (Anthony Davis I’m looking at you) they should no longer be considered elite. What good is a phenomenal player if he’s out half the season and doesn’t play in the playoffs.
Hot take: The Bulls are so bad right now because of Lonzo's injury. He's a good playmaker and can take pressure off of LaVine and DeRozan in the offense.
3:52 Lol, from 1987 to 1998 it was pretty much the Michael Jordan Award... the only gap being the two years he played baseball, and in those years, no one scored more points than he did in the same season he won the scoring title. That's nuts.
Hot Take: The Greatest Rebounders Ever are the ones with the highest Rebounding Rates instead of Rebounds per Game. Yes, Tim Duncan is a better rebounder than Shaq.
Eh. Duncan played 100+ more games than Shaq. He has the benefit of longevity (which is outside of the consideration of being a better rebounder) so obviously Duncan will have a better rate. That's the same logic as with the point averages vs total points, it's unfair to say that Duncan is the better rebounder than Shaq just because of the total number of rebounds alone if we factor in their games played.
Thats not quite true. Rebounding rate (= Rebounding percentage) includes the number of games played ( or even more exactly : the minutes played) in the formula.
The formula is is bit complicated: 100 x Player Rebounds x Team Minutes Played) ÷ (Player Minutes Played x (Team Total Rebounds + Opposing Team Total Rebounds)) Nevertheless it does cover, the minutes a player has played ( and so the number of games a player has played if you look at it career wise). So yes
It's really hard to judge, because in different eras, rebounds have been different. For example, in the 60's and 70's, because it was a big man's league, often rebounds were harder to get around the rim because players worked harder for them (because they often resulted in scoring so boards were more valuable). In the modern 3pt era, on average rebounds are longer, so you can't just park under the hoop to get every board. So I don't think you can really debate rebounds across eras.
That KD draft hot take is on point. Plays like an elite guard with the size of a PF. He’s like a real life NBA 2k MyCareer player. He’s not underrated, but he is under-appreciated.
I agree, the only point I would bring up when starting a new franchise is KD can’t stay healthy. That’s killer for a new franchise, though it hasn’t really hurt kd. Maybe in this alternate reality it would though 😂
He’s not under appreciated. He’s just not accomplished. Players like KD show why Lebron going to the finals 9 times is crazy. KD should be the one doing that shit.
@@program-xz8rb hmm, that’s an interesting perspective. You may have a point. But is that a health thing (like the guy above mentioned)? Regardless of the reason you make a good point.

True. To add to the Raptors . . . Hot Take: Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa could be the most impactful twosome coming off of the bench for any team these playoffs!!
Hot Take: A Healthy Warriors team beats a health suns team 9 times out of 10. The warriors bench is deeper, their offense is better, and their defense is better. The ONLY reason why it's not 10/10 times is because of the warriors offensive consistency and weakness in rim protection.
The thing about that '08 Celtics team? And maybe my favorite thing to ever happen in the NBA? They flat out made the Lakers quit in game 6 of the Finals. Let me repeat that. They made Kobe Bryant, one of THE all-time NBA greats with one of the fiercest competitive streaks and killer instincts to ever lace 'em up just quit. Like, not take it a little bit easy in a game they were clearly going to lose. They made them lay down and die, like a dog who goes and hides under the porch when he knows his time is up. From the wiki: "Boston dominated in numerous statistical categories, including rebounds (48-29, with a 14-2 disparity in offensive boards), turnovers (7-19), steals (18-4), assists (33-16) and blocks (4-0). Five Celtics finished in double figures....the Celtics only turned the ball over seven times and set a Finals record with 18 steals, and every Boston player who saw action scored."
I’m a Boston fan and I *LOVE* that squad! It’s the only one that’s happened during my lifetime and I bloody love KG, Allen and Pierce anyway so the fact they were all on the team is awesome. I was 1 (turning 2) when they won but I still like it! I’m a Minnesota fan too because of my dad so Garnett is royalty in my books Edit: I just realised I prove the point in this video lol, my bad!
Hot take: Despite MJ being the goat IMO, Lebron would be my first overall pick as he would be better, quicker and could carry bad teams much better than MJ (Meaning he would improve at a quicker rate out of the draft).
@@HobbesJnr Jordan’s not a better defender than LeBron; LeBron is a more versatile defender thanks to his size & bball IQ (and was robbed of DPOY in 2013)
When the casuals been talking how this 2022 Lakers is a squad. I said it straight face that this group has no chemistry at all. Bron is a good playmaker and on court leader but not on elevating the morale of the team and make every big egos accountable.
@@carlpatrickragas2159 Dude they had DeAndre Jordan as their starting 5 for a while, chemistry was the lesser issue. Sure their big three didn't worked well, but outside of them they had no players. They knew AD would go down and Bron could too and they went to a retirement home to look for their backups. The team was built like trash.
@@carlpatrickragas2159 I immediately knew Westbrook and Melo would bring them down. I didn't understand the hype and should have made bets with my coworkers, I would have made some serious doe. These guys are offensively inconsistent, don't play D, and don't have a winning attitude.
@@CrimsonKobaNakirigumi well you are looking over Malik Monk and Austin Reeves. They were the bright spots. Fyi. They had KCP, Kuzma, Caruso and COULD SIGN A GREAT GUARD but Lebron insist for Westbrook. That's how troublesome dealing with Lebron
It is impossible to tell if a player plays winning basketball purely through their stats (other than maybe box + -). Winning is impacted by so many factors with the coaching staff, fit and teammates which sometimes means a player getting worse objective stats will contribute to their team winning more
Steve Nash is highly underrated averaging a 40 50 89 in his entire career almost a perfect 40 50 90 and everyone mad he won 2 mvp he’s a top pg all time

I think the scoring title should factor in the amount of games played. If a player plays significantly less games than the others, then he has less games to keep up to have to stay consistent through. Comparing significantly different sample sizes is inherently flawed. The shooting percentage should also be a factor for a multitude of reasons.
thats not a very hot take. shaq is top 10 even with an ass jumper and he was more dominant than giannis around the rim. if any dominant big had a crazy good jump shot like kd of course they would be insane.
Jaren Jackson Jr is the most underrated player in the league, he gets no love in DPOY. He has 172 blocks and has over 70 steals and versatile on offense(though limited scoring and boards)
As a Celtics fan who's never seen a Celtics championship in my life, it's painul just waiting for that day in June where Boston is holding the Larry O'Brien trophy.
As a fellow hooper I can confirm this. Some players you can do what every you want to them and it doesn't do a thing. They will still will their way to a bucket.
Elite defense (at least the way I was taught) isn't about stopping your assignment, it's about slowing them down and making them sweat every bucket they get. If my assignment has to do a reverse, fade away, pivot 30 times, whatever EVERY single bucket then I'm doing my job. By the time 4th quarter hits, they're tired as hell or have been sitting more than usual to rest up and I just hope my team capitalized off that and we're up 20+. If there's an easy steal or block then yea go for it, otherwise I act more like a web than a brick wall. Offense is just too crazy nowadays to try and stop people cold
Hot Take: Lebron is like a firework. Though when he is on a team they are spectacular and always have a chance of winning, and usually leads to at least one championship. Once he leaves, there’s nothing left, and the organization is in shambles due to him fitting all pieces and the future around his play style.

That top players draft has me really curious as to what would happen, im taking it as everyones roughly 20 with no college/high school/euroleague history to even the playing field, based just off of NBA combine physicals, team prospect workouts, and team interviews. I think he might have a good point about KD, typical guys on all time drafts like Jordan, Kobe, Bird, and newer entries like Curry, Harden, Luka and Giannis probably wouldn't get picked as high as we'd expect without their whole careers in the NBA or even college to base expectations off of. my 5 based on these rules would be 1. Wilt Chamberlain. there isn't a player in history that wouldn't be better off with his physique, as tall as Kareem, as fast as LeBron, as Agile as Gervin, as Strong as Shaq. truly a unique specimen, and as far as his bag goes, as deep as anyone, especially when you consider something as simple as a fast break was brand new in his time. all his commonly discussed knocks are mental or situational, and couldn't factor in here, highest potential in NBA history, even if some say he never reached it. thats a different discussion. 2. Shaq. again it's a potential game. and Shaq had ridiculous potential, he'd be crazy in the combine and dominate in the workouts, simply too good an option to pass up in a draft like this. 3. LeBron. physcally the closest a forward could be to what I said about Wilt, even if he didn't play basketball at all he might still get drafted somewhere in this draft just off of that, but his brain for the game takes him into another level, the most sought after prospect since Wilt without even going to college, and that wasn't just because of his play in HS. I don't want to rank exactly after this because I'm not as confident as I am with the first 3, all of these guys were beyond NBA ready at 20. (IK it's hard to rank Wilt there considering his age when he was drafted, but he averaged damn near 40 and won MVP his rookie year. he might have been less polished and a bit weaker, but still by far the greatest prospect to develop and build around in history, and I really don't think it's close.) You could put KD here, he would be scrawny but so gifted that it might get overlooked, they would just hire a bunch of trainers to catch his body up to his ability. the first obvious thought was Kareem. but actually. I think Bill Russell or Magic Johnson might fit my ruleset better. they were more than good enough for the physicals (expecially Bill, criminally underrated from a strictly athletic pov) though not as extremely good as the top 3. but would show their real skills in the scrimmages during team workouts. they had an inate ability to do the most unquantifiable thing in basketball, they could just win. plain and simple, they did what few of the very best NBA players have done, elevated their team to a championship trophy, without having to stand on the backs of their teammates to hold it. that type of positive will stand out anywhere and anytime, against any competition. any obvious players that I've missed come to mind? I didn't spend too long delving into the records, I had what I thought were interesting points on some interesting prospects and went from there. I'm sure an argument could be made for a lot of players, Hakeem, Tim Duncan. maybe some unorthadox ones like Arvydas Sabonis or Len Bias? a lot of players we never talk about could get some real shine in a discussion like this, one thats a lot less stale than a typical all-time list.

It’s very impactful, but that’s just the showiest aspect of it. His numbers are off the chart as a whole - PER, WAR, offensive win share, defensive win share - and mark him as the clear MVP.
@@Kaddywompous brother your the reason people hate jokic
It’s kind of insane how Curry went from the MVP favorite to having a shooting slump which totally derailed his chances of winning
It's even more insane when you look at his season long stats and see he's still an MVP level player and people have him 10th on their lists now
mikal bridges held him to his worst shooting night of all time and that put him in a slump he couldnt fix until after the all star break
man if curry just kept playing liek how he had for the past 6+ years he would've had this MVP in the bag.
@@daisy5497 You could say he’s playing at an mvp level but he’s not over Jokic, luka, embid, giannis, or booker.(you could also debate derozan and Tatum over curry for mvp)
he tried so hard to be on top of career 3pt shots made in short span of games this season but it didn't come out as planned
Hot take: Luka is the literal definition of MVP. When he can drag a team of role players to the 4th seed, and then to the WCF. Without Luka, that certainly doesn't happen, as the mavericks eat sleep and breathe Luka. You could also throw in there the modern training of the younger athletes more and how It can be affecting that
Most NBA stars don't care about the fans.

There were 27 teams in 1989 to 29 teams in 1995 to 30 teams all the way since 2004.

@@fabianstohr1080 So rate = the proportion of rebounds per game and games played? If that's the case then I concede.
The formula is is bit complicated:
100 x Player Rebounds x Team Minutes Played) ÷ (Player Minutes Played x (Team Total Rebounds + Opposing Team Total Rebounds))
Nevertheless it does cover, the minutes a player has played ( and so the number of games a player has played if you look at it career wise).
Narrative of Self is the result of a feedback loop between “Separate Self” & Cosmos🎈

I’m a Minnesota fan too because of my dad so Garnett is royalty in my books

I think the scoring title should factor in the amount of games played. Man I’ve been watching you for years and I’m a huge fan. Congrats on 2 mil!! My hot take is that both Ja and Luka will win an MVP in the next 5 years.
This shit long as hell don't read it

Hot Take: Lebron is like a firework. Though when he is on a team they are spectacular and always have a chance of winning, and usually leads to at least one championship. Once he leaves, there’s nothing left, and the organization is in shambles due to him fitting all pieces and the future around his play style.
LeWalmart, he gives small towns hope then leaves them in shambles when he moves out.
Paul Pierce at around 9:40 What the actual f...!?!?!?!? He literally milked the championship for real 🤣
Another banger right on the pulse of NBA basketball and I love it. Playoffs is going to be electric this year

That top players draft has me really curious as to what would happen, im taking it as everyones roughly 20 with no college/high school/euroleague history to even the playing field, based just off of NBA combine physicals, team prospect workouts, and team interviews. I think he might have a good point about KD, typical guys on all time drafts like Jordan, Kobe, Bird, and newer entries like Curry, Harden, Luka and Giannis probably wouldn't get picked as high as we'd expect without their whole careers in the NBA or even college to base expectations off of. my 5 based on these rules would be
(IK it's hard to rank Wilt there considering his age when he was drafted, but he averaged damn near 40 and won MVP his rookie year. he might have been less polished and a bit weaker, but still by far the greatest prospect to develop and build around in history, and I really don't think it's close.)
You could put KD here, he would be scrawny but so gifted that it might get overlooked, they would just hire a bunch of trainers to catch his body up to his ability.
the first obvious thought was Kareem. but actually.

I’m still tryna figure out how 1.1mil views not equal too 1.1mil likes. Give this man his credit. Every video a banger.
Hot take:
The league has too much talent (and it’s increasing every year) to award 1 MVP. There should be other awards to commemorate individual success like in the NFL which has MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
Conferences should be abolished and the best 16 teams, conference independent, should make the playoffs.
Hot Take: Paskal Siakam is having one of the most underrated seasons in the last 10 years
True. To add to the Raptors . . . Hot Take: Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa could be the most impactful twosome coming off of the bench for any team these playoffs!!
Hot take: If the hawks can stop being so inconsistent they have a really good shot at a ring
I actually agree with this, they just need one good defender like a forward who can stop the other teams main man
Nah, the same take can be said to many teams if you look at it objectively.
Way too broad. Every team in the league has their ups and downs.
Or maybe at least the Finals. They got to the ECF last year but then Trae got hurt.
I love how you put Three Peat Michael Jordan with a different picture on the scoring title frame, it was like a different person.
I say this every year but these playoffs are gonna be goooood!
Here’s to hoping so…
I only started saying this after the super teams died off and parity came back to the league...
I don’t think the raptors quite deserve their spot in the east but other than that these playoffs should be great
