Here's why Tesla Cybertruck looks WEIRD
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- The divisive Tesla Cybertruck started an avalanche of opinions when it was first unveiled. No other car was so strongly loved and hated at the same time, and it was all because of its design. Some call it ugly, while others think it's the coolest car Tesla has ever made.
So what's up with that Tesla truck design? Couldn't it have looked any different?
Well... not really. And in this video, I explain exactly why.

What? Do we have rain of bullets here in SA?
Dude, they paid off that ENTIRE $920 million debt in February and have almost $6 billion in cash right now, Tesla is pretty damn flush right now
From their reports they still have $12B in debt.
stockdividendscreener.com/auto-manufacturers/how-much-debt-does-tesla-have/
I used the old $920M screenshot as an example of what Tesla is dealing with constantly
@@TopCarsTV thats TRUE, but it's not due, they will make payments just like anyone else. That screenshot just seemed to misrepresent the situation. Ford has a debt of $154 billion and GM has a debt of $94.22 billion, this is the big picture
@@bcarroll03 Yeah, you are right. In any case... everyone needs money :)
Tesla will need another 8 trillion to catch up with the Ford and GM infrastructure to repair and maintain its vehicles reliably. Who know how to work on a Tesla.... maybe a thousand people? Who know how to work on Fords and Dodges and GM? maybe a couple hundred thousand people. EVgine as seen on RUclips, now has a all Electric Motor Assembly and battery pack that any OEM can use and it cost less than building a Tesla anything. Anyone can work on or maintain a EVgine system. Easy to install and easy to work on.
I hope everyone can see this serious problem Tesla will have and Ford, Dodge and GM are catching up very quickly.

How is your product any better than the Volkswagen MEB?
Stainless construction means I'll actually be able to drive in the winter snow without the thing rusting out in a few years...AWESOME!!!!
Just keep an eye on the range when driving in the winter. Batteries perform much worse when it's cold. 😉
@@TopCarsTV Yep, I have a 2nd Gen. Volt, so I've experienced the drop, and have the tri-motor on order just for that reason.
What's Volt like to live with? I always imagined such hybrid concept to be the best possible solution - driving for almost free in the city, while on the highway, a petrol engine kicks in. No range anxiety at all.
Sounds too good to be true, and if it was true, shouldn't people be buying these like crazy?
@@TopCarsTV Exactly, over 100 empg around town, and high 40's on the highway with no range issues...GM never advertised them, and the dealers didn't push them because of the limited after sale maintenance. I've had it 21/2 years and LOVE it.
Time to shed more light on this topic. I mean, why is everyone raving about electric cars when PHEVs bring best of the both worlds 😕
Man, I'm just happy that I can say I drew realistic trucks in 1st grade.

Well, you always have more traditional buyers, and those who want something new. Tesla is not for traditional ones.
I don't imagine many F150 buyers would change their mind, or any truck owners for that matter.
Tesla says it's a great truck, but people will be buying it for being a different car all together, not just being a different truck
Applies to movie critics as well.
Nah bruh it's just ugly
A You Tube discussion with Mid West truck buyers showed they would all consider the Tesla Truck. The potential benefits outweighed the looks though most of them quite liked it.

I love how Elon runs the company, his "fuck it, let's do it" inspires a lot of people.
I expect this design will change radically before it makes it to production, among other things are government mandated bumpers and crumple zones for collision protection. It's all well and good to rave about an indestructible design, but that same design makes it a death trap in a collision.
Especially for pedestrians. There is no way this passes regulations
It doesn't even have gov mandated side view mirrors.

You forgot to mention trick with "broken windows" during initial presentation. What is better to add reality and increase publicity. Nobody really give a s... if window will break it is just a window but that is proving that all presentation is more realistic if these type of "unexpected incident" happened. After all truck looks even cooler and bad ass with these "bullet hols" and obviously media around the world been screaming about this "failure". But you need to remember that any publicity is good publicity!
I remember during 2016 elections when Gary Johnson (libertarian party) started babbling in the middle of an interview, like an infant.
It was a desperate but sure attempt to spread his message because the story of him babbling is more viral than him just talking boring politics.
Same as Tesla windows
max2011 Europe KO, no admitted.
Strange thing: making a design not compliant to half planet
They did the window test earlier and probably stressed the glass
I mean making the window bullet proof on the road would be bad. What if the car batteries catch on fire, and the windows don’t move, then you can’t get out. So Tesla should have an option for windows.
martin wilk Yet a Volkswagen Golf can take more hits and a hammer and survive? That’s stressing the glass. The little half assed throw shows how strong it is.
Nice story, but elon has said that the exoskeleton folding is actually cheaper than stamping because the machines that do the folding are way way cheaper than stamping machines. Less capital outlay means that they can reduce the price of the truck. Hence $40k entry level truck even though the body material is more expensive and they need more battery capacity
Well, folding into this shape is cheaper, but anything more complex that would resemble the usual car designs would also make the machine more expensive too.
Due to this simplified manufacturing process and also not requiring painting, the assembly line will take up much less space, is less expensive due to folding instead of stamping and can likely be brought on line quicker. The design of the truck is a combination of optimizing manufacturing efficiency with the exoskeleton or monocoque frame that is very strong while reducing weight due to no heavy steel frame. These factors combined together is why Tesla believes it can sell the Cybertruck at a comparable price-point given the same features as an ICE pickup.
If I expected to be in a position to buy a $50,000 or $40,000 truck in 2 or 3 years, then I would have pre-ordered it. I happen to like the brutal look of the thing.
Same here brother

This is for the people that don’t like to be like everyone else and the performance is insane

1:16 hills in background show the layers of sediments laid down during the Flood 4,350 years ago.
The surviving hills were left after all the soft sedimenst around them slumped and dissolved away during theflood draindown period.
Watch the Condit Dam video to understand how flood topography forms very quickly.
You are a fucking idiot.
I never thought we would be discussing creationism on a car video
Two comments. One is the stainless is an unspecified alloy. It may be 301, 302, 304, etc. Tesla does not want to say, so they hide the last digit and called it 30X. It would not be pronounced "thirty-x" but rather as "three-o-x."
Second, cars are made with an "exoskeleton" (called unibody or monocoque chassis if done the most extreme way) all of the time. They are normally stamped steel, and because they are curved and stamped, the steel only needs to be about 0.9mm thick to be rigid. Tesla could have done this, but it would need expensive tooling. Their genius was in thinking to use CNC laser cutters and bending machines so that no dedicated tooling would be needed. This saves tons of cash and lead time. Only problem is, flat metal is not stiff, so they had no choice but to make the metal 3x thicker than normal. So, the video said it backwards - the stamping is not skipped because the steel is too thick to be stamped but rather the steel is thick because they didn't want to have to stamp steel and had no choice but to use thicker steel. In any case, I like it because it adds security.
Wow, you really know your stuff. What's your background?
@@TopCarsTVMany things, but I worked with 300 series stainless when I was a Director at a large gun company, and the military adopted some of my products.

LOL. How is "ugly" defined? I like it. I ordered one. And I'm not a truck guy; I never had a truck, and never contemplated getting a truck; but I ordered the Cybertruck because I fell in love with it at first sight. I guess there's proverbially two kinds of people: those who like what is new, and those who like what is familiar. I remember chatting with this gal at work a few years back; I told her I had been at a new cafe and had spent there 2 or 3 hours, and all the music they were playing was new to me. I was still feeling glad the next day. She said "That's weird! If I go some place I want to hear songs that I know and love; --The Stones, etc." There you have it. Most people are like her; suckers for the familiar. I love the new, the creative, the iconoclastic.
But this is old familiar retrofuturism!

Anyone got any ideas of how they will cut grooves in the thick steel?! I heard that drill bits would wear down
4:34 proper pronunciation of 30X steel is "three hundred and X," not "thirty x." There are many variations in the mix of metals in the 300 series. For the 301 formula, it's pronounced "three hundred and one." 302 = "Three hundred and two." Etc. So just replace the number in the one's place with "X." Because 1) this formulation is similar to the 300 series but of SpaceX's own design, and because (2) the precise mix of which they're keeping a secret, hence 30X, "three hundred and X."

Do you just want it, or you also need its truck-ing capabilities?
@TopCarsTV
I just want it. I’ve actually wanted a truck for years as I like sitting up higher and I prefer the space and utility. But I find most of the designs are uninspired and some flat out ugly and I cannot bring myself to own a vehicle that gets less than 20 mpg and prefer mpg > 40 as I currently enjoy about 90 mpg in my Ford Fusion Energi plug in. Therefore this is a no brained for me, beautiful and electric. ...I own the 24 solar panels on my roof so charging, for me, is not only free but completely renewable non-polluting energy.
