That bass, the fill ins on the drum kit, and that scratchy, reggae skanking on the guitar. Kiwi here, are you sure you guys are aussies?????? 😉😉😉😉😉 Born 76 here, love this fkn song man. The trip down the lane mate.
There's this annoying thing under every Australian band/song's video in the comments section where someone loudly reminds us how awsome 'AUSTRALIAN' music is/was. It definitely reminds me of how globally insecure we are as Australians. It's a phenomena seen under every Australian music video that isn't seen from other nationalities, they just call it 'MUSIC'.

Remember playing this on the jukebox at the barkhut inn NT when the ringers me and a lady friend had just won 3 games of pool on the trot for jugs of beer ! We did make it out alive ! 1981 I think. 😎👍
Listening to 'Classic Hits' radio station on the weekend and after this song the DJ suggested that there are people who like this song because it has a great beat and the chorus is so easily sung along to but they have never listened to the lyrics closely enough to have any idea of the 'story' that the song is telling. How can that possibly be?
the story is a window into another world, yeah the beat and tune is catchy, but gotta be pretty dumb to miss the story here, i'd say stop listening to that station...
I love this song and I prefer this version to the other slower one. Both are great but I don't understand why there are two studio versions. Can someone explain?
James Reyne’s album ‘All The Hits Live’ has a version of tblu which comes close to this version, however, tblu on the Phalanx album of Australian Crawl is the most similar to this one
Torquay Hotel, Easter weekend of '84 as the Rip Curl/Australian Crawl Surf Festival was underway at Bells. Yep, you heard right. The band was a sponsor of the competition that year and also in '85 before they broke up in '86.
I started listening to this great rock song when I was 12. Now I'm 56 and still listening! It was also a massive hit here in Brazil !
the bass, so simple yet perfect.
A primeira vez que ouvi esse som foi em 1998, quando tinha 12 anos, em uma fita cassete que um amigo me emprestou. Bons tempos!

1984 Twin Towns, Tweed Heads, Gold Coast!
no voice overs or lip syncing, this is the best version to hear
Kkkkk
It's literally all lip-syncing. Video is almost always shot at a different time to the audio. They are spliced together during editing.
It absolutely is the best version yr right

You hear a lot of both Jamaican Reggae/Dub Influence and Southern/Rock Country Influence in this stuff aswell as New Wave. It has a very nice effect.
