    I said beautiful people
They've got a robert palmer t-shirt in their travel bag
    Beautiful people
They've got a price upon their head
    I said beautiful people
    Have got some friends
Who just flew in from la yeah
    Beautiful people
They haven't really much to say
I said people, they just want to take you
People, they just want to make you
People, they just want to break you down
They just want to take you down
    I said beautiful people
They ride two hundred dollar pushbikes in the park
    Beautiful people
    They won't admit it
But they make love in the dark
    Beautiful people
    Snap frozen potted palms
In the corner of the living room
    Beautiful people
    The art-decor sonic boom
I said people, they just want to take you
People, they just want to make you
People, they just want to break you down
They just want to take you down
    Beautiful people
You know they're going out tonight
To get their bombay rocks off
    Beautiful people
They've got a kerouac condition, got a cocaine cough
    Beautiful people
Studio 54 is the only place to dance
    Beautiful people
You know the garden's full of furniture, the house is full of plants
I said people, they just want to take you

First concert I ever saw was Aussie Crawl.
I was 14 underage at Caloundra Civic Centre with my friend, her older sister and my older cousin.
Years later I met James Reyne at my children’s primary school at Chancellor Park Primary School Sippy Downs. I was just dropping my kids at school and he was playing his acoustic guitar and singing. I spoke too him briefly. He actually stopped and spoke with me and was very polite.
I think all the mums there were pretty juiced up I’m just gonna say.
It was pretty cool at the time.
    Was he living there?
Did his kids go to my kids school?
I don’t know to this day.
I don’t see any other reason for him being there.
Anyway I told him I was an Aussie Crawl fan and they were my first ever concert I went to. PS I got in a lot of trouble with my family from my teen incident because I was 14 and got up to mischief. My uncle was a bishop at the time and a church member dobbed me in.
Anyway I had to confess to my father and I’m alive to tell the tale!

James performed with both wrists broken and in plaster as seen in the video. He then wrote a song about being hit by a car called Indisposed.
Wanna tell you 'bout my Frenda
He got hit by a Fender
But he'll soon be on the menda
    He's of the male genda
Glad to see that he's on his way
    He's not for Burial today
    Because he's in... he's indisposed
Because he's in yeah yeah... he's indisposed
Found him outside the dry cleaners
    Oh the drivers misdemeanors
I've never seen a face so greena
He looks a like the cats dinner
Glad to see that he's on his way
    He's not for Burial today
    Because he's in... he's indisposed
Because he's in yeah yeah... he's indisposed
He got hit by a car
Now he's lying on the tar
    Had an experience bizarre
Not unlike that makes you laugh ra! ra! hey!
Glad to see that he's on his way
    He's not for Burial today
    Because he's in... he's indisposed

I agree. I lived in Australia from 79 to 82. A great natural environment, but there was something off about young baby boomer Aussies and to a lesser extent their more subtle parents. However, the lines about Studio 54 and friends from LA might be a criticism of how shallow another society is.
