  • The Traynor TS-15 is a little solid-state hidden gem. Made in Canada around the eighties, this amp has a unique voicing. It's an excellent tool for recording if you want to add something special to your guitar. On top of that, you can find it for a very affordable price-pretty much a must-have like any Traynor TS amp.

    I love the subtle effect on the tone of the minute adjustments to the position of the head on top of the cabinet.

      And great to see he's using gloves to prevent getting fingerprints on the amp which is well known among pros to smother tone.

    I remember when we used to play these type of amps. Its incredible how you can get amazing tones from the multieffects available.

    Nice amp, I would make it in a preamp pedal format 😉. Just checked the thematic and it very simple, gonna experiment with it.

      yeah the amp head doesn't seem to be available anywhere, though the combo can, it is listed at a number of places, I hate combos lol. They take up unnecessary space

    sounds like the bass and treble controls are more like high and low pass shelf filters

    I grabbed one of these recently for this very reason. Recording. It has so much bass in the preamp I can't wait to hear it through a bigger cab with some 12s or 15s. So I need to mod it to add a speaker out jack instead of having the speakers hard wired to the amp. They must have done that here when they converted it from a combo. I bet this thing is a beast through a big cab (and with some fuzz in front).

      We can confirm that it sounds very well through a bigger cab, but with a slightly different tone.

    Hey, I was just wondering, did you guys do the customization into a head/cab yourselves, or was it already converted when you got it? I'm very curious about how involved of a process it is to do this, like did it already have a speaker out or was the speaker connection hardwired into the amp, did it need a new hole drilled to create a speaker out, etc. Also, I would love for you to do videos on other amps in the Traynor TS line if you come across any!

      Hi, the amp was already like that when we got it. We'll do a TS-50 video at some point. We're chasing a TS 140 but they're hard to find.

    I just discovered this amp at a local pawn shop today. Amazing. Do you know what ohm the speakers are? I want to rig it to my 1x12 cab. Any suggestions help a brother out 🤣

      Hi, not sure about ohms on the TS-15. We have a TS-50 head and that one is 8 ohm.

  • @bigwomp932

    How's the low end in person? I would think with 8" speakers, even two of them, it'd sound kind of tinny. Might make for a great recording amp though...

  • @alexmasters23
    @alexmasters23 3 года назад +1

    sounds really sweet! how much of that fuzz is coming from overloading the speakers, you think?

    • @WeAsACompany
      @WeAsACompany  3 года назад +1

      Good question, I think a good part is from the speakers. The bigger TS amps do have a different tone, maybe cause they have bigger speakers. The TS-15 is really unique.

      Replying to a very old comment here but maybe someone will find this useful. I've looked into these amps a fair bit, and in every case I've been able to confirm so far, it seems Traynor used speakers adding up to the total wattage of the amp - so the Traynor TS-25 for example has one 12" 25 watt speaker in it. That's quite under powered. Having under powered stock speakers was a common cost cutting measure with old budget-friendly solid state amps, though I think this is almost an extreme example of it. Anyway, long and short of it is, if all the TS amps have such under powered speakers, then speaker breakup is almost definitely a significant part of the sound people associate with them. That is not to say they won't still sound awesome, but it will likely have a lot less breakup. The other thing to be aware of though is that if you push these amps a lot, they may eventually wear out the stock speakers.
