@@chalocolina3554 The mayor of Austin & govt Greg Abbot are to blame, inviting corporations, giving them tax incentives in exchange for campaign donations & personal business deals. When we had Rick Perry as a govt he was strictly focusing on keeping Texas economy within Texas & the people of Texas. Now the culture is dying out here & we’re becoming another state filled with Soulless corporate sheep’s that are not good for the long run.
I came to Austin in 1985...I will never forget my 1st weekend. Met my new work team Friday evening at the 'Edge of Town'...a cool, hip new dance bar...they were doing 50 cent tequila shots...that got the party started. The next night we went to Dallas Night Club, my 1st country bar, it was a lot of fun, mix of pure country and rock...a very crowded bar...I remember this Texas dude had a tiger tied in his pickup truck outside in the parking lot...he drew a lot of attention. Here was a typical night out with the guys. Met after work to shoot pool at a bar at Braker and Lamar Boulevard. They always had pretty girls as waitresses. We would do a few pitchers, shoot some pool, then head out to the Yellow Rose, at 3500 N. Lamar - the girls were so pretty and friendly...some of the best days of my life. I left Austin for another job in 1999, and the decline (over growth and marketing) was evident over those 15 years...needless to say, the early days were the best.
what made Austin special and fun is gone or going away fast, money changes everything, so much money coming in distorted real estate and local economy, so much traffic and crime now
Yep. Austin used to be really laid back, artistic, just overall a good vibe. I don’t like it now. After my lease ends I’m leaving & never coming back. It’s a corporate city now with ppl with no personality.
The tax rate is about the same as any other city in Texas. It's just that people are willing to pay twice as much to buy a house here as in less interesting places.
Portland has always been better people than most Texans. If that's not cool with you, move someplace that doesn't have so many decent folk. Chattanooga? Charleston WV? There are lots of choices for you.
I lived there in 1994-95 it was changing fast and I saw the writing on the wall. I had to wait in traffic over an hour for a lesbian bike parade, making me late for work. Moved to NW Arkansas and never regretted it.

Best place I ever lived, circa 97-99.
Austin is squeezing out the middle class and poor, housing costs and prop. taxes are really bad
That's not good...I was thinking about move to Austin Texas...but now I change my mind...stay where I am at😂😂😂
Thank real estate investors for this problem. It's not Austin's fault, it's greedy people.

Missed old Austin before 1996

Unfair division of wealth causes crime. Selfish car-driving cretins cause traffic.

@@jema5039 hope you find new place which is better, there are not too many laid back artistic places in USA left now
Property tax is basically double anywhere near Austin

Thank you
I wanna move again. Not a fan 0f the different groups now. Austin was good in 2009
Austin going the way of Portland Oregon.
Sad.
