I just took the FAA 107 test on April 18th and got a score of 90. No online classes. I just studied every video I could find on RUclips as well as reading various articles and recommended study guides. Don't bother trying to memorize online sample test questions. You need to learn why and how regulations are the way they are and how they apply to various scenarios. Out of 60 questions on the test only about 20% were covered in those videos and study guides. The test I took was made up of questions you could answer only by studying weather systems, METAR reports, sectional charts, airspace, and various regulations covering drones and some common sense.

Got the idea to take this test two days ago on a Tuesday after flying my Mavic Air 2 for a couple of days. Signed up for the next test slot which was today, Thursday, at an aviation training company inside my local small airport (Scottsdale, AZ). Passed with an 87% and it took about an hour. All I did to study was watch THIS video and the Tony Northrup video (which are similar) once each. Both of these videos are FREE and accessible by anyone with an internet connection. I took no practice exams or looked at anything other than these two (about 2 hour each) videos.
My point is, these videos are so good that you may not need to pay an online school if you sincerely place your attention on these resources.
Full disclosure: I am a good test taker ... I have passed the bar exam, a real estate exam, etc all on the first try. If you aren't, maybe you need a different approach...but this is exactly where I'd start if doing it over again.

Just wanted to say that I passed my 107 today with an 85% with the help of this video, Tony Northrup's video, and two runs on the FAA practice test!
There's definitely material I had on the test that was not covered, "If a pilot loses his license, but wants to fly with someone who has a license, how can they do so?", "How can a pilot fly two or more drones simultaneously?", etc., but the vast amount or material covered was what was in Tony's and Gary's classes.
Thank you for making this video, and giving me the confidence I needed to take, and pass, this test!

My son and I passed our 107 today! (we both got 92%) Gary's video and question list were very thorough. The only other thing I really used was the FAA part 107 study guide (available free online) particularly in the areas of weather and air space. There were a few questions that I had not seen, but you can miss 18 and still pass. It took a week for me to prepare.

Took my test today. 60 question which I marked 7 of them as unsure so I could revisit at the end. All the rest, as a result of Gary's video and pdf study guide got me a passing score on the first go around of 90%. The most important tip that Gary gave us and I would like to reinforce, is take your time and read the questions carefully. 90% of everything you will need to pass this test is covered by Gary, Tony Northrup and the guy from Better B Roll. Last thing, as Gary suggested, I did a Brain Dump on the paper they gave me for my weak areas before I pressed the Start button. Comfortably & confidently finished the test in 55 min.
Thank you very much Gary -

    I passed with a 98.3%. I missed 1.
I honestly thought I got 100%. The one that I missed didn't seem right. You can dispute questions actually, and that would be one to dispute. Don't get me wrong....happy passing. But the answer implied you can have 2 RPIC at the same time, and only one has to maintain sight of the drone. No way that is right.
Anyways, I watched this video 3 times. This was my favorite. I like his teaching style, and he makes tou feel confident. I also watched B Roll's video twice, and Tony and Chelsea Northrups video 3 times. I had paid for an online study guide (drone academy) and took those practice tests a few times. (That paid for study guide had at least 2 answers taught wrong, so that bothers me a bit) I verified the right answer on 4 different sources. I questioned them and it took them 1 day to respond, and didnt change their answer. Trust me, they were wrong, I verified.
I also used an app. on my phone in time between. Overkill? Probably.
But that's how I operate. I strive for perfection and eliminate chance.of failure. Because it was worth it. I wanted to take it once, pass, and move on with my life. I felt it was better to do it right, and just take the test once.
I scheduled my test 3 weeks in advance, and then made sure I studied at least a little each day. Some days, I put several hours in. Some days, maybe 20 minutes. These videos are SO helpful. I learn well this way. Reading, my mind drifts.
My first 10 questions had probably 6 on sectional charts. I had one METAR, and 1 TAF. Probably 5 on weather.
One thing that kind of surprised me was, in my last 4 days before the test, while studying, I was STILL learning some things for the first time. Things not mentioned in the videos I listed. That kind of made me nervous. It made me wonder if there was more I hadn't see and could be on the test. On my test, I had 3 questions that I never saw covered in my first 2 weeks studying. So for me, it made sense to put in the extra time. It paid off. Honestly,, I just wanted to get a 71%! It took me 45 minutes taking my time. I only had 4 marked to review before completing. I took my time and made sure I clicked on the right answer. As the test went on, I was getting more confident. By question 51, I knew I passed.
I never used the scratch paper.
Pretty proud of myself, and thank you for these videos.

But then I see this site ( www.kingschools.com/free-faa-exam/drone-pilot ) and it seems many questions are different. Can you or anyone advise ? I have put sooo much time into studying. I am going next Thursday ( 8/8/19) and want to do well.

    • @Rob-dp3vr
      @Rob-dp3vr 5 лет назад +2

@@alkayemediagroup4536 I would pay for Gary's class. The test questions were close enough to what you will learn that you will recognize them. They can be worded a little differently, but not so much that it fools you. If you know the answer, you will get it right.
I would buy Gary's class, and watch his video 3 times. Memorize the air space facts, the METAR and TAFF formula, and weather.
After 3 times, the easier questions should be burned in your memory. And after 3 times, the air space, metar, taff, and weather stuff should finally stick in your head.
The weather questions, memorize what goes with what remembering certain things. Like, stable air bring steady rain and less visibility. Why? The air isn't moving as much. Its stable. Unstable air moves stuff out of the way. Makes it easier to see through. Better visibility.
Air density was a subject that tool me a while to get the hang of. Learn that until you know it.
Though honestly, I only had 1 question on it.

Thanks for the video. It was the 6th one I watched in my self paced studies, which lasted about a week. Today I passed with 98%, which equates to one wrong. It was a question about visibility and ceilings. I selected the answer that did not include an obstruction and only included the cloud deck. This was incorrect because if you're flying indoors there just might be an obstruction instead of clouds. Of course I gave this video a thumbs up.

Passed. Thank you, Gary. But I am not proud of myself. 90% of the questions I never saw covered anywhere online. One question was about a "buddy box"? I got it right due to logic, but I guessed. Had only 1 metar question directly from the quiz-- NO latitude or longitude that I had to figure out --- My suggestions are to study beyond the videos on YT. BE SURE to understand air space and sectionals as that is 80% of the test or more. And Glens tip about check the Legend is right on!...It really came in handy. And go slow. I used every bit of the two hours to review as well. Glad I did.

This is a great video. I've never thought about getting my part 107 certificate, but after watching this video. It kinda motivated me to give it a shot. I've always have flown my drone for fun, and love. I love to fly for myself, and record or take photos of my kids, and grandkids at a picnic, or park. I love the way it was presented. Thank you Mr. Glen for putting together this fun easy way to do course. You have succeeded where no one else could of. I'll be buying it sooner than later. Watched this, Tony Northrup's and the Better B Roll video once each and took notes on all of them. Then I read a whole bunch of FAA publications as recommended by the proctor at the exam location. I took the exam today and bookmarked nothing, choosing to just take my time with each question. This resulted in 3 wrong out of 60 questions and a score of 95. Thanks for making this video, it's great!

I just took the test this morning on 6/04/21 and passed with a 95% score. This video really helped me but make sure you know the concept behind the question and the correct answer. The questions are VERY similar but not exactly the same. If you grasp the concept you'll do fine. Make sure you brush up on Remote ID, Flying over people, Flying over vehicles and night flying. Also, make sure you know the different categories of drones like 1,2,3,4 and the requirements of each. I had a total of maybe 6 questions having to do with night flying, flying over people and vehicle. Notice I said VEHICLES, not just cars, lol. Also make sure your familiar with the charts and longitude's and latitudes. Good luck !

Gary, I just wanted to leave you a comment and say THANK YOU for providing this free video to help prep for the FAA Part 107 exam. Between your video and Tony Northrup's, the free materials provided by the FAA and the multitude of practice exams out there, I passed my Part 107 with a 90% this morning.
The fact that you provided this video free of charge... "generous" doesn't even cover it. My biggest worry before I ever took the exam was that I wouldn't pass and would have to pay to re-take it and possibly even pay for a training course in order to pass a second time. Instead, thanks largely to what you shared here, I passed my exam on the first try. After crushing every practice exam I could take, I was confident in what I had learned here that I wasn't anxious at all taking the exam. I finished in roughly 40 minutes, but since I still had so much time left, I took the time to go over every answer once more (I even found a question I'd initially gotten wrong!)
If you're watching this video, give it a like. What Gary has shared here will absolutely help you take the FAA Part 107 knowledge exam, and could save you hundreds of dollars by not having to take one of those training courses. WATCH THIS VIDEO FIRST before deciding to pay for a training course. If you still don't quite get it after watching this video, only then should you really consider paying for a training course. Otherwise, Gary will teach you almost everything you need to know in order to pass.
    Thanks again Gary!!!

I noticed that several of the online prep courses give a sidebar type comment in regards to the Aerodynamics portion of the test. Something like "Critical angle of attack is really related to fixed wing aircraft". A sUAS can be anything and that includes fixed wing aircraft. Somehow Drone has come to mean only Multirotor in many peoples way of thinking but that is totally not correct. Also the propellers that keep a multirotor in the air is an airfoil so it is prone to Critical Angle of Attack issues. While a Multirotor is less likely to fail from an Aerodynamic Stall the principals are still very much applicable.
The FAA is 100% absolutely correct in requiring sUAS pilots to learn what keeps their aircraft in the air.

Yes exactly just like load factor can also happen to quadcopters just like a fixed wing.
