SVS Subwoofers: Which Entry-Level Sub? (PB-1000 vs PB-2000 & SB-1000 vs SB-2000)

  • I've had some time with the SVS subs and I'm excited to share my findings with you. As you can expect, the SB-2000 and PB-2000 are going to be my top picks - they feel like they fit in best with an audio system rather than feeling like it was just tacked on. The 1000 series is still excellent, and I think if you didn't A/B test them side by side you'd never be disappointed with how they perform. I believe that if you can afford the ported variant, and have the space for it, the best dollar for dollar option is going to be the SB-2000.

One of they best if not the best review of the SB 1000 series subs out there . I am in the market for a so called Budget sub . And I have watched over 20 videos on this sub ,to see if everyone is coming up with the same conclusion . And for what it looks like SVS has hit the so called (nail on the head) . Matt watching you listening and evaluating with all of your years of experience ,plus a tear down of the subs is over the top in a review . For me the sealed sub is the one I'M buying ,cause I'm over the boom era in my life. Thanks Matt for your honesty .TWO THUMBS UP.

Last year the PB 2000 Pro’s were 899. I was brand new to the HT/Audio hobby. I had recently inherited a pair of what I believe are JBL studio monitors manufactured between 1971-73.Their measurements, construction materials, and finish all point to being some variation of the L100’s. Anyway, they ROCKED and I wanted to pair them with an appropriate sub that would also shake the house during movies. So yeah, my 26ft wide x 40ft long x 12ft high living room now proudly hosts a PB 2000 pro.

      Thanks for the Like! 🙂
I have some questions that I hope you perhaps could answer.
My curent speakers sound a bit muddy: the amp is a bit weak and the speakers don't have enough breathing room by the walls for the bass.
Besides that I want a deeper bass extention, I also want to solve the problem with the sound of the speakers, and I want to place an SB 1000 Pro next to each speaker for that.
I have a NAD C165BEE + C275BEE combination; a stereo set. Is there a way to connect these subwoofers in a way that they take away the bass from the speakers, so they can focus more on the mids and highs? Or is turning down the bass all the way the only option?
Also: it's in a room of about 16.5 by 16.5 foot. Will 2 100 Pro's be sufficient for that? I'm not an extreme bass-head but do enjoy good deep tones in music and like a reasonable amount of support in the deeper tones in movies without the entire room exploding in thunder. For instance: moments like "Godzilla (2014) - Nuclear Train Attack Scene" should sound really convincing.

      @@bryanguest2807 ok zoomer.
Since you clearly don't have much life experience yet, let me explain: for wifes ingeneral the interior is far more important than sound quality.
Speakers must be as small as possible and the color and shape/style must fit with the closets and the couch etc, or otherwise must be as invisible as possible.
Subwoofers should also be as small as possible and preferrably be hidden behind the couch or some obscure corner where a potted plant can be placed on top of it, preferrably with a cloth over it so you don't see it.
My wife fortunately isn't that bad; we have very good floor standing speakers (although my old ones that had a superior sound she did hate) and with much luck I was able to get a pre- and power amplifier under the television. She hadn't realised that the power amp also belonged to the set, otherwise I probably had to look for some low-powered compact amp that absolutely wouldn't be able to power these speakers enough.
She is not too happy with the idea of a subwoofer, but one tiny one is acceptable.
I do want to have 2: one next to each speaker.
So, zoomer, does this answer your question?

SB1000 is more bass than I probably need. I run Audyssey room correction and run my sub flat to 80hz.

Hi! Thank you for all the details. I just purchased one sb-1000 pro to go with my Focal Aria 948 in a large room (around 60sqm). It is connected to speaker level since I have the power amp Pioneer M-73 with the preamp c-73. Two questions:
    1. When everything is turned off, except the sub, the later goes humming. When I turn on the preamp and the power amp, the hum goes away. So I can listen to any source just fine, with no hum. Any solution to get rid of the hum?
    2. What would be the best settings in the app for my sub with the Focal Aria 948 through speaker level inputs? I use the Music preset, just lowering the volum to -14. My auditions are moderate to low.

Also might check out RSL subwoofers 10s mk2 as a ~500 entry level option as well. Bought one a little while ago and like it a lot better than the pb-1000 my parents have. It is a 10 inch ported driver with 400 watts rms in a smaller cabinet than the SVS ported subs due to the slot port which to me doesn’t have any negative effects on sound. The driver itself also appears to be a little higher quality than SVSs lower tier options.

It's the only sub I have, so I haven't been able to compare it with anything other than my memories of it's predecessor. One I'd been wholly satisfied with for 15 years. The RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII out performs it across the board. It fills my house with richer, more powerful, bass than my old sub ever did, even though It had a bigger driver and a higher price tag. I'm extremely pleased so far. I've heard RSL is preparing to offer a 12" model, so that might be something worth looking into. I can't imagine a larger driver, and perhaps a higher wattage amplifier, would make it anything but even more fantastic. I believe I made a very good choice when I decided to give this sub a try, and fully intend to partner it with the new 12" version when it arrives, and I'm able to afford it. The strength of the 10S MKII has awakened my hunger for even more BOOM!

Tweeter alum here, which store were you at? I was in several MD locations, Catonsville, Towson, Glen Burnie, and even worked at the York store when their MES went on vacation.

This is the explanation from PSB: "A new ¾” (19mm) tweeter is ferrofluid cooled and features a Neodymium magnet for high sensitivity and power handling. A wave guide on the front of the tweeter helps match the response of the tweeter near the crossover point with the woofer for a seamless transition."

Is it possible that being that you played all subwoofers at the same volume level the amp in the sb 1000 pro just couldn't've reach that level without clipping thus sounding muddy at high volume levels? Another thing is that your space is huge and that's pretty much the smallest subwoofer with the weakest amp they sell besides the 3000 micro. I'm pretty sure the SB 1000 pro will slam in a 12x12 room. For my computer room i have Klipsch RP400m's playing off a RSL ia225.1 mini amplifier. i think the Sb 1000 pro will do nicely.

Seems to me that SVS down graded the SB1K PRO except for the Bluetooth/app integration to differentiate the 1k and 2k better
Multiple smaller subs will fill the room so much better than one big/powerful sub but requires more integration to get it sounding right
