This is Pittsburgh PA, the only type of ground we have here is rocks, clay and dirt. We have been using this type of machine for 21 years and it pulls through the ground the same way as the video shows. The only time it gets hung is when I run into a rock larger than 20 inches or a large root or stump.

First of all the pipe I use is Poly pipe (Polyethylene) not fany pipe, the same pipe that has been used by all the gas since 1960. Poly pipe can be pulled in 300 foot solid lengths without having to glue 20 foot sections together. Poly pipe can withstand freezing better than PVC, can be fixed faster than PVC. I do use PVC for the main lines because they are under constant pressure and I also use PVC on commercial jobs because they are specked that way. 23 years in business never any problems!!!

Good little machine this Ditch Witch but limited in depth and size of pipe in hard ground. Take a look at my machine I'm using on my site, pulling 40mm pipe knee depth. Double wheels for better traction.

Fluffyhead1234 The wire is plowed in at the same time you install the main. It looks like they are plowing in a lateral line. DW 255sx nice little plow. Me1231969 you don't have a clue....

The bigger machines are nice but don’t fit into tight spaces and won’t fit through an average gate.

I have a very rocky area. I have PVC pipe and when doing the sprinklers the trench digger they used had problems. I can only imagine what happens when this thing hits a rock. Ruined I bet.

@spklrs4u lol you dont see the advantage? try using a trench shovel for a couple minutes, or back filling in after a trencher. You have no idea what you are talking about

That PE pipe is going to be scratched or cut by sharp rocks or stones in the ground.

would you rather trench, lay, fit, backfill, plus seed? or pull, dig at connections, and backfill?
