My favorite notion is my seam ripper. I am a sewer from way back, a little over 20 years. I have mostly done clothes but have picked up quilting in the last year because I inherited some quilting stuff from my mother in law. I am addicted!!
I drive right in if I find the project interesting. I am a great starter but not the best finisher😉. Goal for this year to be a completer. I use several notions but I find my favorite is RUclips! Great learning community 🥰
Hi Pat, I wish I lived near you because I think we would be friends. I just love how excited you get about everything. I’m a get and idea and go for it kind of gal. Research! Not my thing although if I don’t know how to do something or can’t figure it out on my own, I will RUclips or Google to find out. Happy day to you, thanks bunches for all you do for the quilting sisters out in the world.
My favorite notion is my cutting mat and rotary cutter. I’m a new quilter and all those things look fabulous. Loved your tip on how to fix something when it’s out of square.
I have to remove my borders today. I do not like wavy and do not know what happened on this last quilt...thanks Pat for the good information. From no on I will find the true middle of the quilt thanks to you!
I research new things or techniques. I enjoy watching someone that knows what they are doing. 😂. I’m also a bag lady, and I don’t think you can ever have to many. Thanks for all you do for us.😍
I've always been a jump right in person when it comes to crafts but I did yoga years ago and loved it. My problem was I had a back injury that stopped me from getting the full course. My oldest daughter super loved it but works long hours and cant find a class at her time off. Keep up with your yoga class Pat because the more you go the more your going to love it . ❤❤❤
I'm about ready to start my first quilt and the information about the borders, and other things, will be very useful. I first have to do a laptop bag for my 84 year old mother. She's going to visit her sister soon and can't leave the laptop behind. LOL. I've decided not to go crazy with my first quilt and cut it into different pieces. I love the fabrics and all the pretty prints. I had originally bought a jelly roll and decided to make a queen sized quilt, so I bought a layer cake of the same fabrics. I think I'll use the jelly roll in some kind of design in a border around the main pieces. I can't wait to get started! I hope you have a great day. 😊
Oh Pat I really enjoy watching you I love all the things you share and talk about and all the information that you shared thank you so much for being a friend !💕🥰🧵✂️
Hi Pat, I love yoga I actually became a qualified yoga teacher last May. I work full time and as a side line I teach yoga for 3 hours a week. Which means I only get to sew about four hours a week😞 if I could I'd teach yoga and quilt and quit my day job, but alas I can't. I love your chats they make me happy and I learn so much 💐
Thank you so much! I wish I was on last night. Your fire side chats are always wonderful. Thank you so much for the tutorial on boarders this helps a lot!.
My favorite notion is the little Ruler I LOVE THOSE!! Now the next item is the Seam Riper BUT it is because it is a NECESSITY!! Thank you for all you do.
I recently bought your book "Teach Me to Make My First Quilt" and have taken 3 lessons so far. I have seen together the patches for the Four Patch Table Runner. I don't have a use for a table runner. So, I have seen the patches 3 x 4 to make a doll blanket. Now, I'm trying to learn how to cut the border and sew it on.
One of my favorite notions is the Martelli tweezers! So many of the store bought ones never really grasped the thread well. These grab anything everytime!
Another tip for borders is to cut them on the lengthwise grain instead of the cross grain. Some directional prints won't let you do that, but the fabric has much less stretch on the lengthwise grain.
My favorite notion has to be the seam ripper. I would have a lot of projects sitting around without that! I love yoga with Adrienne. I need to get on a routine and you are helping me to get inspired. Thank you for all you do.
I’m new to quilting and your channel. I love listening and watching your videos when I’m in my sewing room, thank you.💕Also I just ordered the little iron, thanks for the discount code.🥰💕
I sew wish you had a store here in the Hudson valley, New York... we have only one quilt store in our county...😕😕 I love you videos! Yes I’ve done clothing for years.... I’m also a professional seamstress....I do a lot of bridal work....
Wonder Clips are my favorite ❤️ notion. I initially bought them for binding, but find myself using them through the entire quilting process - whether it’s piecing, sewing blocks and/or rows together!
I feel like I’ve been caught with my hand in the cookie jar. 😂😂😂 the way you described the common way of sewing on a border....I’m like...yep, that’s how I do it. Gonna try your way cause I sure would like to have flat borders!
I am a recent addition to your followers and I am hooked. Your chats are informative and fun. The notion I love to hate... the seam ripper, ugh. But, yoga rocks!
I benefited from a yoga class at a local rehab place, years ago. I don’t like the pagan, mystic roots, but the moves and breathing are great! I picked up an app this morning that just gives you the moves and keeps you focused. Just what I want, yay!
I ordered the Drawing Room fabric charm packs, you gave a link to last week, and the Charming Baby quilt book yesterday! So excited for the next sew along!
You have inspired me to start using my scraps. Making kitty quilts. I dont plan. I just grab and sew. I am a jump right in kind of gal. And do research latter. Lol. I want the baby quilt book. And I love getting emails from you. Thank you for all you do. And I am going to make the heart quilt behind you. I love hearts.
I was searching for a video called How to Put on Quilt Borders [period] not ...so they don't wave. I just bought your book I Can't Believe I'm Quilting and I'm looking for a little help with page 21 - Borders. I'd love companion videos for some of the quilts in that book. Thanks.
Diane This is similar to the one I have (which is older) It has Manual controls, external mic jack, electronic view finder + the screen amzn.to/2HUGqBI
My goodness, but you made that way of putting borders on quilts so labor intensive. If you measure across the exact center of the quilt and cut both borders that length, when you put them on they will come out perfectly.
I haven't read through all the comments but I also have a question. What is the biggest measurement difference that you would ease in with the borders?
Thanks for sharing your Yogi! I love doing Yoga in the water Aqua Yoga. A bit less stress on ones body when beginning. Try it 😀 I began to practice Yoga in a Yoga studio the yogi never explained terms. So like you I research 😍
I do a different method...I fold my quilt in half, lay my border even with one end, lay it out gently smoothing it to the other side, and then cut even with the edge. I’ve never had a problem after that. Sometimes it’s a bit wider that the top of bottom, which is when I ease my quilt into the border.
Shirley I start taking apart rows and fixing them. If you REALLY don't want to do that then you will make BOTH borders the size closer to the smaller. then do a LOT Of easing on the larger. BUT you might end up with poofs and pleats in the final quilt while trying to quilt that eased area
What happens when you cut your borders length of fabric? It no longer has that give. I have a quilt right now that’s is a 1/4” off from side to the other. I need help.
if you cut length of fabric it does eliminate a lot of give, which many people like for a border. I guess you will need to sew another piece to your border
My assistants are quilted boxes of different sizes that I have made for bobbins, thread, etc. I enjoy making them and seeing them. So why not put them to use to organize my quilting supplies.
with those cutters you can carry them on a plane and do your cross stitching instead of your scissors, that should be packed in your check in luggage...
Pat thank you for such a great pod cast. Sometimes you just forget some of the basics in quilting ,and a refresher or reminder on how to do it just makes me a better quilter, with minimum frustrations. Thanks again and look forward to next Mondays fireside chat. I chromecast it to my big TV and its like you are in my living room. One day maybe but until then virtual reality is how you will have to exist for me. LOL
I’m researcher, life long learner, read non fiction, that’s why I enjoy channels like yours, lots of great information.
Glad you enjoy it!
You are delightful to listen to, love to sew while you chat

Wish i had RUclips years ago, when i was sewing with little kids, no contact with anyone else who sews, love your videos and reading comments
I drive right in if I find the project interesting. I am a great starter but not the best finisher😉. Goal for this year to be a completer. I use several notions but I find my favorite is RUclips! Great learning community 🥰
Sorry I missed you live but as usual always valuable to listen to you when I have the time. Thank you for your weekly Fire Chats!

This is the clearest explanation of this issue I have ever seen! Thank you! My future quilts can now have reliably flat borders at last!
Oh Pat I really enjoy watching you I love all the things you share and talk about and all the information that you shared
thank you so much for being a friend !💕🥰🧵✂️

Thank you for the inspiration as always. Quilt border information helpful! I just received my bags. Love them.
Wonderful!

I love bags too. You can cross stitch your initials on the ones you showed!
pretty cool!
Jump right in! Going to check Adrienne out, Thanks
Yes, I made a lot of my daughter's clothes. Easying in sleeves!
I haven't read through all the comments but I also have a question. What is the biggest measurement difference that you would ease in with the borders?

Try it 😀 I began to practice Yoga in a Yoga studio the yogi never explained terms. So like you I research 😍
Thanks for the tip!
Hi from Emmett Idaho !
Wish I was here for the live show! I measure my quilt before I cut my borders, take the average. I do as you do. ME!! I'm a Bag Lady
woohoo!
I do a different method...I fold my quilt in half, lay my border even with one end, lay it out gently smoothing it to the other side, and then cut even with the edge. I’ve never had a problem after that. Sometimes it’s a bit wider that the top of bottom, which is when I ease my quilt into the border.
I love your heart quilt
Pat , you are amazing ! When I can order, I'm going to do your quilt along. So excited to be a part of your group! ❤❤❤
I am about to start in to this
Nice Hearts quilt behind you. Where did you get the Shamrock kit?
Omg love watching these please keep it up
My favorite notion is the seam ripper. It is my friend.
Do you iron the fabric after spraying it?
i do Susan!
Dear Pat. Dumb question but is the border part of the quilt sandwich???
Pat how do you fix a quilt that has a 1 inch difference when you are ready to put on the boarders?
Shirley I start taking apart rows and fixing them. If you REALLY don't want to do that then you will make BOTH borders the size closer to the smaller. then do a LOT Of easing on the larger. BUT you might end up with poofs and pleats in the final quilt while trying to quilt that eased area
Pat Sloan thank you.
Have I been doing my borders wrong? I put the sides on first and then top and bottom.
When I first started cross stitching, I started on Aida 22. Now I can only work on 14 & 18.
I'm a jump in get it done type person. If I really am stumped on some part of what I'm doing then I'll do some research.
SO helpful!!
Is there a video where you show how you are making the heart quilt in the background? Or a pattern name? Thanks
the heart is in my Splendid Sampler book #1 at amzn.to/3SVZ9km
Thank you, Pat!
Beautiful!
Thanks for the border info!! Very useful!!
Glad it was helpful!
Coolest goodie bag ever
As a longarmer, I feel like this video should be replayed several times a year

You could cross stitch your name so you can identify it at retreats or guild meetings.
