This is the one of the best videos I have seen on cutting borders. I am 73 and just now learning to quilt. I need borders for my second quilt and you have been so helpful. Your instructions are very clear. Thank you and may the Lord bless.

Great video. Are the selvages suppose to line up on both sides because mine did not? I needed to know how to cut borders on length of grain. I was not quite sure how to fold the fabric and how the selvages are suppose to lay. I’m so glad I found it. Thank you

It can be difficult to get them to line up on both sides. I only concentrate on lining them up on the side I'm cutting from. I'm so glad the video helped you!

Such a helpful video! I'm putting borders on for the first time. Do you press and square up the yardage before folding it for cutting? Thank you!

You definitely want to press it, especially to get the bolt fold out of it. I don’t worry about squaring up the ends because you’ll get those straight as you’re putting the borders on your Quilt. After you measure your quilt, then you cut your borders to that length. So first you do a cleanup cut on one end and then measure and cut the other end. Then the borders have straight ends.

i see why you would not get a straight border cut with this technique.

I show how you could cut a crooked border and then I show you how to cut it straight

It is not good practice to cut toward yourself using a rotary cutter, the blades are very sharp and if your ruler slips you could end up cutting yourself.
