These rules were compiled by a Zen monk known as Shaku. He had lived them each day until his passing in 1919.
By going to sleep at a regular hour each day, you create important consistency in your life. Our mind and bodies need consistent rest so that you are at your best each morning, and are all the more likely to wake up early- and the quality of your morning is a huge factor in determining the quality of your life.
Eat with moderation and never overeat
It’s easy to forget the effect food can have on our lives, particularly with our modern-age eating habits. Over-eating is just around the corner for most of us, and abusing food has more than just physical consequences; it has very real mental as well as global ones too if you think about the huge amount of waste involved.
When an opportunity comes do not let it pass you by - but always think twice before acting
Consider if the opportunity is the right thing to do- if it’s moral and if it’s just- and make sure it’s the right thing for you specifically.
Light incense and meditate in the morning
Daily meditation, particularly first thing in the morning, is something I talk about often. This is probably the most important point here!
By the way, incense has some truly remarkable qualities. If you’re looking to understand why it’s been used for so many centuries, check out this article.
Do not regret the past. Look to the moment
This is the cornerstone of Buddhist philosophy. The past isn’t real; it doesn’t exist. Only the now exists, and the path our present actions will have in our future lives.
Watch what you say, and whatever you say, practice it
Words are one of the most powerful things in the world. They’ve ended love, began love, created war and peace. They have a profound effect on others. The second part to this point is just as important. You’ve probably heard the saying, “practice what you preach”, at some point in your life. Without that crucial aspect, we do not have any power behind our words, and therefore they become less effective.
Have the fearless attitude of a hero and the loving heart of a child
When dealing with others, whether in or out of confrontation, we should approach the situation with the loving heart of a child. A child naturally has great compassion, understanding, is naturally caring, who sees every person as an equal - regardless of their social standing.

All are very good points on living a good life. I've made a summary so anyone can have a quick look.

    2. Eat with moderation and never overeat.
    3. When an opportunity comes do not let it pass you by - but always think twice before acting.
    4. Light incense and meditate in the morning.
    5. Do not regret the past. Look to the moment.
    6. Watch what you say, and whatever you say, practice it.
    7. Have the fearless attitude of a hero and the loving heart of a child.

Live in the moment, think the Niietzche thing, if you had to live this moment over and over again, for eternity, would you do it? Yeah, time is a flat circle. A pretty good thought experiment. Crappy for the past, pretty illuminating for the future.

I have noticed that usually when someone post something like this, the rules are not simple, and can be hard to implement into ones life. Which can lead to feeling of failure. But this one is different. Except for the last two they are simple rules, and the last two may be a little harder, but are not impossible. If I may I'd add one more. And that would be to learn to forgive one's self when we mess up, and try to learn from ones mistakes. If we can learn to forgive ourselves, it's way easier to forgive others. Forgiveness is vital, because at one time or another we all need it.

one major point I have to practice: seeing every person as equal EVEN THOUGH that person can influence my future. i have to practice to be calm naturally in those situations.
One day a master was about to welcome the heads of various countries and while waiting he was nervous, and his hands very sweaty. After the meeting was over, the master went to his students and told them that he has no right teaching them because he still isn't able to see everybody as equal and became a student somewhere else. (story is from eckhart tolle's book, but dont remember the title)

Love that one of the Roman Catholic, Sisters Of Life was shown. These amazing American Nuns promote the Culture of Life and help young women considering murdering their unborn child. They practice all these concepts and more! Peace!

"do everything, you indeed want to do. sometimes it is difficult, you heard so much, against your wishes, so many rules are and different opinions. but do with an attention and see what the results are. after that, you will be sure, right you or other. consciousness of you heart and body knows, when it is time to eat, sleep, work, love.. better, than rules of all teaches, they created after did many mistakes, you must to make too. zen mind is empty and does not in control of thinking, you lost after all ideas will been checked". TLDR; Misleading and pretentiousness and erroneous; all apply here.
All this says is be mindful, and they're needlessly complicating an already difficult to digest "concept". Translated - Sleep mindfully. Next, eat mindfully and then choose mindfully followed by meditating mindfully. Also live mindfully aka in the present, speak mindfully, and then finally some odd, erroneous assertion.
Because every human being, save for those few enlightened souls, is hypocritical in some way shape or form. So to say our words have less meaning because we are not perfect ourselves is discounting the immense amount of wisdom we can glean from everyone, as we all have something to offer. But you can discount your own advice in this case, because it'd metahypocritical of you not to do so.
Moral of the story - KISS (Keep It Simple...) Namaste.
