This goes to show that the recent wheel-loss events with United are far more involved than just forgetting to tighten a few bolts.

Thank you for putting the axle protector on. I see so many videos on social media and RUclips where people are not putting them on and say it's not a big deal.

I think it’s a standard practice as aircraft mechanics to install this kind of equipment. If you for whatever reason can’t use it once it isn’t a big deal (my opinion) and understandable. But if you make it a standard practice to just not install it, it will wear out your MLG axle threads and this will result in unnecessary gear replacements or repairs.

@NextGenerationMechanic problem is if you don't use the protector, you can damage the axle at the ridge just past the threads. We have several 767 that we have to pull off tires because they need to do NDI inspections, plating and recoating due to not using it at other stations. It turned into a big deal and those people got wrote up.

I see what you mean. I meant the time you don't use it is in extraordinary conditions. Let's say you're AOG at some shady station in the middle of the night or something.. But it is really a waste to not install it and prevent that kind of damages and NDI's.

that's because nobody uses them. Been on the line for 30 years, and nobody uses them

Ensure tang washer is positioned correctly according to engraved marks on it.

True! This is a bit hard to align with the nut on it but when you hand tighten it enough it will stay in place.

Łożyska są w kole, stożkowe ? To bardzo ułatwia robotę. Na MiG 21 wewnętrzne łożysko schodziło z kolem, upierdliwa sprawa.

@@NextGenerationMechanic no sir. I refer to the wheeled pry bar, the tool that uses to lift the wheel assy to the axle.
