Ive had mine for about a week now. I absolutely love it.
Great to hear!
My uncle had a suzuki vitara not a grand and everytime i ride with it with him it is so nostalgic cus I basically was in this car for everyday of my childhood
This video made so proud of my 2000 Grand Vitara. I named it the Snow Bunny because one year we had so much snow here in Texas, and I was passing all these stranded trucks with the 4 wheel drive. It did so well and super fun in the snow. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!!
i have a 99 grand vitara, automatic, 4wd; i love it. i got a 2 inch lift with 30 inch tires.
The only engine issue I have had is the timing chain tensioner rattle. I believe it was a common issue with the 2.5L. Suzuki issued a tsb for it. I installed a new timing set including tensioner, guides and chains. That was about 60k miles ago. It’s at 240k now. So far going strong 💪
I need to replace mine now. Did you buy Suzuki parts or use a kit? What do you recommend?
Their junk, mine hasn't started yet but with 290k and burning a ton of oil it'll be a matter of time, I just got tired of putting oil in it so I'm waiting for it to blow so I can have an excuse to k20a2 turbo swap it for triple the power that junk v6 can put out, mines auto and was told they never came manual in 02 so a 6spd will take the place. Best advice I was told was swap the Suzuki junk for reliable Honda power, best advice yet.
I’m SO shook about the under seat boxes! I’ve had a Vitara for almost 2 years and no word of a lie I didn’t even know they were there! Yikes!
Definitely one of my favorite features!!
I drive one for about a year before I discovered them lol
Most of these are 2.0l diesel in Ireland or 1.6 petrol for the smaller 3 door the 2.0 will do about 40mpg
I wish we had that here 😍
My 02 Tracker with the 2L 4speed auto only gets 14 in city driving. It is very under powered so you are always flooring it to get anywhere. lol
I know a mechanic in Mexico who is an expert with this vehicle. There is in fact quite a few aftermarket parts for this now
Well i a mexican and have this car well the Chevrolet tracker version, i would like to know your mechanic
My 82 yr old Mother wanted hers to be automatic. Just bought an '04 with low miles, It's her side by side farm buggy. 4 door v 6. A keeper
Thoughts anyone on a 2002 Vitara with 220,000kms? How long will these engines last? Parts replacement cost? Priced at around 6k
Heck yes, I’m about to get one, thanks for the info
I have a grand vitara v6 xL7 2,7 side engine, i love , the tour Shell drive is also manual, bt it is nw in the workshop i need a bottom half the crankshaft is broke, bt i love in Jamaica it is imposible to get.😔
I have a 2001 and I love it. I don't drive it much and don't need it but I can't get rid of it.
Thanks for the video- friend is selling his and I’m thinking about it since my car went down. Didn’t realize how capable these little guys were
No problem!!
Just got a 2001 from my Dads ole lady. It’s V6 auto. I’m looking to swap to a manual first thing!
Watched this video about 1.5 years ago
When I bought my 2000 v6 grand vitara.
2 years later and roughly 7000$ for new gearbox, clutch, 3"lift, tires, new brakes. still love my grand vitara
Welcome to some crazy answers when service should be done. Parts, seems to be the issue. 3 weeks might be 12 weeks. Depending on the problem.
How it is with reliability? Considering buying it
I have since sold it to a family member and it’s still running strong! It’s been very reliable, just small maintenance things that should be done with time.
The hate things I totally agree with except the gas milage, I have a 2.5 V6 as well and it is very economical, around 28mpg, I'd be checking a few things tune up wise. Also my one in the back in the floor, about where that blue box is, is a lift up panel with a big storage compartment underneath it.
A lift up panel? Storage compartment underneath? Is that something custom made, or is it stock?
I'm going to check mine tomorrow
@@JavierAndresAnd stock
It’s stock.
95 Tracker and I can get a whopping 150 per tank. Bone stock 1.6 liter 16 Valve with a 5 speed. I do have some digger tires that are 10 inches wide buy 30 inch and wagon wheels. I've heard others getting 300 per tank on the same rig. I have new wheel bearings and no breaks dragging. Alignment is straight. I'm going to clean the egr valve next round. I know it's not that aerodynamic lol. But man 150 miles between fill ups sucks! But I dig my Tracker4x4!
Im 6,5 and i fit very well in mine, but i have the long version so maybe its bigger but the only problem i have is that the clutch is too close to me
Hi, I have a GV 2.5 as well, and I do not understand this hose from fuel pressure regulator to apparently to canister. Mine go from pressure regulator to intake manifold. Did you make this to use more canister gas steam ??
Best regard from Brazil
I’m honestly unsure
Jimnybits in UK do a rear mechanical locker for like $150 if you are going to remove the vacuum operated front diff actuator you will need to weld the diff closed for ideas on lift kits look at Jimnybits uk one issue withe front diff is the right side drive shaft actually runs on the oil seal so I have a nylon bush behind the oil seel to support it and you will have to put camber adjusting bolt in the strut to get your alignment right
They don't sell suzuki's in usa anymore since 2009. Mines a 2004. Love the car.
Stopped selling them in Canada too. But they sell LOTS of small vehicles outside of North America. Wish I would have bought one of their small pickups before they left the North American Market
18 miles to the gallon is really good
Shit man, I might need to commission you to build me a front bumper too haha.
just was feeling out a 2012 Ultimate Adventure Ed. 2wd - - dude said no issues. any experience with those things? 4 cyl i think, too. "Minor cos. defects" is the buzzword for -driven half to deth by a crazy . . under 120k mi. and under 6k$.
Nice donuts section. Haha
You can use lookers from a Suzuki samurai... It works
Really?
Yes dude... As we know me don't have any support for 4x4 parts. Here in Costa Rica it's what we do
I love my Suzuki Grand Vitara. The down side has been breaking bottom of the rear shock mounts. They are too light weight for my use. I drive Rocky BLM roads in Central Oregon. Have others had the same issue?
Honestly it hasn’t been on many trails so I have not had that issue. But I can see that being a problem.
Timing cover leaks often and that's a pain in the ass job. Otherwise I love them.
Hi mate, I have a video outlining the TRE air locker available for SQ Grand Vitara's. It's a reasonably good option, though there are trade offs.
Thank you!
@@TrailTrekmedia We have the V6 Vitara in England but only seen them with automatic transmission but gas mileage is way better than what you are getting with a manual, a friend had a swb van version with a diesel engine and it was very good offroad.
I think mechanic side would love to hear about Drive Train specifics. Like does it have a Toyota trasmission? I know 98-00 jeeps they had totota transmissions. I think thats why they were so reliable.
I'm pretty sure it's a toyota transmission. There's also a kit for the transfer case gears to make the low range really low like 1:3
I wouldnt be suprised if they increase in value soon. they are dirt cheap compared to landcruiser, pajero and patrol. remember when pajeros were cheap. go to instead of expensive land cruiser. No other body on frame real 4wd for this price i think.
I'm dead set on buying one
I have front and rear locker from ARB. You can also buy from TRE or even China made one. Fits no problem. Rd208 on front and RD205 on rear
How’s the ride on pavement with the lockers? Could you still use it as a daily driver?
@@Baffi_ of course i can use it. It is an air powerd locker. I only switch it on when i need it off road. When i am on road, the air locker is off and the car is a normal open diff
I wander how much the mpg would change after putting on lock out front hubs?
Probably not very much honestly
So what’s the consensus on the viability of a gen 2 (vintage 03/04) GV/Tracker in 2021? I’m looking for a light weight flat tow option to pull behind an RV that will be boondocked in BLM land and parks. I’d rather put a few $$$$ in something like this than drop $30k on a Jeep. But I do worry about parts and after market options.
Sorry I got to you so late, they are very good flat tow rigs. This one was actually flat towed behind a RV for most of its life.
@@TrailTrekmedia thanks for the reply. Do you feel that this vintage is still supported in the after market with lifts, racks, bumpers etc? What about spare parts availability?
Anyone out there know will the other gearboxes out the other Mk2. series vitaras fit and work OK it the 16 model, Thank You,,
Look up randy Gibbs on Facebook he should have a idea
there is quite a bit off support for these up here in Canada and in Europe. Join the fb groups for all the info .
Definitely will check them out
Here in GB , I have 5 of these also a MK 1 , one 2door for spares, one 2 door it's next to use needs some work, and the next a 4door diesel, I don't think they do bad on petrol and the diesel is really good on fuel, none of mine are the V 6,, all I dislike are most are in silver, and many have that awfull plastic trim round the bottom, also the price is going up,,dont like the MK3 too complicated and look naff,,😅
Definitely wish we had a diesel option here.
does the grand vitara's 2.6l have the same oil leak issue as the xl-7's 2.7? is that also a thing?
Unfortunately yes
Can you cut the front bumper a bit to make room for larger tires?
Yes
I've just got mine it's a 2003 1.6 petrol I'm currently looking for alloys my 4wd light is flashing I've been told it's the actuator, it's on 60k and I've just done timing belt and waterpump
there are videos of people taking apart the actuator and sanding down some corrosion and reinstalling it and they work.
@@halflife103 lol I found it very simple fix, just got my alloys on there now just installed keyless entry system, and fitted a chip tuning box from ebay that was 79 pounds to be fair not much difference but there is some, I'm averaging 30mpg now where before it was 28, I'm looking for the silver kit you have on yours
Question: does the 1.6 engine swap onto the 6 cyl trans?
This Is a tough one.. I’m not sure, I want to say no but I’m not confident. There is a guy in Facebook names randy Gibbs that would definitely have an answer for you.
My v6 gets average 23 26 mpg which is fantastic compared to my ranger I traded for it, I hate my Vitara because the v6 in 02 only came automatic and it sucks I'd much prefer a 5spd manual. I hate that mine the 4x4 blew out and front differential grenaded, I agree that with no aftermarket support especially the first gen grand Vitara/ gen 2 tracker it sucks and custom parts will need built. I have nothing good to say about mine and I'm turning mine into a race truck since nothing works on it, after I find a Honda civic to daily lol. Will be k20a2 and 6spd swapping mine for power and performance and dropping it down as well as 2wd swapping, that's the plan if I keep the junk.
Nice vid man. Next time I would just be mindful of the beeping noise made by the key in the ignition. It's very distracting, and I almost made the same mistake of putting in footage of that while I was talking as well when I was making my video on my 2000 Vitara in 2019. Good luck with it though! I miss that car. Like you said, the off-road capabilities out of the box along with the simplicity of it were my favorite attributes.
What are your tyre sizes? Looking to fit a 225/75r16 after a 2 inch lift
I’m running 235/70r16
@@TrailTrekmedia I’ve im australia and I have a 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.5L and yeah, I understand what you mean, over here, there is hardly any aftermarket parts. I’ve hit 166k kms and it’s going okay, have a leak coming from the engine. I’m running 235/60r16. It’s also a weird model as I have a mid year clearance car that is missing stuff, aswell as having a more powerful engine compared to the original sports model.
@@alittlegeckogamer4608 hey mate, I live in Australia as well and have a 2000 model grand vitara and found it hard to find parts for it. Try this website: www.zookoffroad.com.au/
It’s has lift kits, body lifts, lockers and more. I found it super helpful so I hope it helps you out too mate.
I had to put wheel spacers in mine as they rub the frame
Jimnybits uk for lift kits
I have the same car take off the front grill wen u off-road and the back bumper to make thos tires fit better and they need to make more parts for this car
I agree!!
How to use the 4weel drive
You just select 4Hi or 4lo with the transfer case shifter.
damn when he said bad mileage i was like ohh nooo then i realized that the 4cl 1.6L is really fuel economic
Yeah it’s the V6 is a gas hog for sure
I've had an immobiliser problem with a similar car for about 2 months now... all the auto mechanics who've looked at it so far are failing to fix it...
I’m sorry…. I’m not sure if I can help you.
What yr is yours
2000
Its a 2002 seven seater too
does it have a 1.6 engine?
2.5
@@TrailTrekmedia do you have any info about it's 1.6 engine? mpg, quality, i found a good deal on a 1.6 vitara coupe but couldnt get any info about its engine...
@@lukarukhadze4859 vitara coupe?
Do your research and youll find plenty of aftermarket support
At the time of the video that is not true. And aftermarket support in the US is not as much as in other countries.
A bumper for anything is $500
I mean I’ve seen some dirt cheap ones for wranglers on Amazon lol. On a real note though that’s why I just fabricated my own. Has my style, have the cost and more satisfying.
@@TrailTrekmedia so how does it wheel, im buying one tomorrow and doing the 4 inch lift deal just for shits and giggles
@@COLLAR01 it wheeled really good actually! Super capable out of the box, aired down on some good tires and it did most of the easy trails in 2wd. Unfortunately I sold it and didn’t get the chance to build it completely and see what it could really do.
He talked about all the "mods" he was gonna do and hasnt done shit
Because I started a family, and sold it. Sorry if it hurt your feelings.
Time to buy an other 4x4.
Do ittttt!!!
@@TrailTrekmedia I have two good ones.
