The Toyota corolla cross and the Toyota CH-R replaced the matrix. They are still cheap and reliable. They just changed the name, so they did not really discontinue the matrix Scotty. How do you not know this? LOL
Be quiet about the air bag. 🤫
Proud Suzuki owner here and love my little car ❤
Suzuki Samurai was a great car for those who want to have inverted four wheelers.. 😂😂😂
I learned how to drive stick in my moms 2001 Vitara back in 05 It was a great car and it’s still on the road til this day!
the headroom in the SX4 is great
Suzuki are the No.1 car sellers in India. They are absolutely killing it there.
Plus the new Jimny is a banger of a car and selling really well here in Australia.
Aussies 🤣
I have a SX4 in Australia for 12 years now and have never had any problems with it done 193000 kilometres, use only synthetic oil, and still running like new.
what brand of the oil?
Bought my 2007 SX 4 brand new when they first came out for $12,000 cash with an automatic best car ever had still driving it 92,000 miles runs great paints good no complaints. All wheel drive works excellent. Still selling them overseas but not in the USA.🚙
My wife wanted a 2008 Suzuki Sx4 AWD, and she loves it. I offered to upgrade to a Lexus or Genesis but she refused. Then after a heavy snow storm, I quickly understood why. My only complaint, gas tank is really small but using it for a road trip was not unpleasant. But I never had a major issue, just oil changes.
I have a 94 Geo tracker 4wd made by Suzuki 1.6L 5 speed manual 275,000 miles all I've ever done was replace the starter, brakes, and keep the oil changed. The body is a rust bucket but the drivetrain is bulletproof.
If Suzuki sold the Jimny here in the us, I think it would do great! It’s a mini-off roader that is actually more capable than taking a ford escape and calling it a ‘Bronco’ 😂
The Samurai and sidekick were the small off roaders before the Jimny but very underpowered here in the us as we don’t really like diesels and that’s how these are sold overseas. Plus, the manual thing LOL
Suzuki are quite popular here in the UK. Especially the Swift and Vitara. Well regarded for reliability, fuel efficiency and general good value. The Swift Sport is a great fun small hatch.
See them all over the place here in the Philippines. Rode in a newer higher level model. Nice car !
I was dumb enough to buy a 22 small Kia. Already have a couple issues but dealers here are useless. Difficult to even find a shop with a lift. Their so called long warranty is a huge joke. Wish you were here Scotty.
Well u got trap in Korean crap
my work kias are fun to start but they age faster than a smokers face
Scotty would join you in PI if he's single.. 😂😂😂
Scotty is a RUclips treasure
Indeed
I'm glad you chose this... I have a uk vitara, 2015, only 1.6 but gasoline, no turbo, manual, no GDI, timing chain not belt, cheap cars that are made to a price. They need looking after though but the engines are excellent (except some diesels made by fiat) my oil is clear and it's done nearky 60k
I put 350K on my ‘93 Sidekick 4x4. The trans (manual, of course) burned up after a little rubber plug came out while I was trying to keep up with big-rigs running 80mph from Las Vegas to Barstow….kept popping out of gear. Replaced that and never had any issues once I figured out how to clean out the EGR ports in the intake. It hat a CalMini lift kit and a fairly good look. Sold it when we had a kid.
“Manuel, of course”-💁🏼♀️
I had a 95 Suzuki samurai first-year fuel injection I put 33 in tires on if I was a union plumber and got a lot of crap for it no pun intended it rode hard half a cup of coffee in the morning! But it was great I even had air conditioning factory 11000 in 95. I also had to Geo Metro on 92 had a Suzuki 3 cylinder also with the stick about 40 mi to the gallon! I was an apprentice plumber. Later in my career I had a 2004 forenza that was an automatic and it was fine and cheap. In 2004 I bought my wife a Grand vitara XL7 with the v-6 leather interior and a moonroof also excellent thanks for the memories Scotty 🤠
I bought my father a Geo Metro back in the late 1980s. When I was driving it, and I'm a leadfoot, I typically got 44mpg. I'm 6'2" and not only could I drive it comfortably, I could fit comfortably in the back seat. The only thing it needed was cruise control.
Great video! Liked hearing about a not so popular car (in the US) getting a good review. Sounds like it was the transmission type that made the difference in this car.
I have a 2011 SX4 Sportback that I purchased with 30k miles. Has the CVT transmission so I agree with Scotty in the fact that it's slow. Now has 300k with regular maintenance and still running like a champ.
Does anybody else like that starter sound at 3:10 , I like it.
I live in the U.S. Virgin Islands and we still have plenty of Suzukis. The first and best car I had was a 1986 3-cylinder, 4-speed manual Suzuki Forsa. My mother bought it brand new for $5,000. (A hurricane in 1995 smashed it, but it still started on the first swing.) They are perfect for our islands. The speed limit is 35mph and the fastest I drive is 45mph - maybe 50mph. Unfortunately, we're part of the United States so new Suzukis are not sold here anymore. I'm seriously considering buying a new manual transmission Suzuki Swift from one of the British Islands. I still drive a 1998 Chevy Tracker which is really a re-badged Suzuki Sidekick. It has 158,000 stop and go, uphill and downhill miles. It was my backup car, but my 2014 Chevy Cruze's engine died so it's now my main car. The Cruze only had about 62,000 miles. I would buy another Suzuki in a heartbeat.
What happened to your Cruze is such a shame.
@@Juicetheeunuchis that the cruze made in Australia
@@davidmilledge221 Lordstown, Ohio
we had a suzuki badge as a chevy metro. went almost 300k , had 1 gear left in trans out of 5 spd. no oil burning . no leaks at all. bought new. not for US is true. only 2 timing belt job 1 set of brakes, and a couple sets of tires, great car
Suzuki makes a swift 1.3 turbo diesel common rail 5speed very reliable and go over 400k kms without any problems.. best cheap reliable car .
Suzuki swift 4 cylinders are popular here in Australia, I see them with high mileage and still running well with over 300,000 kilometers on them. yes the auto's in 4 cylinders are sluggish but not too bad with the standard transmission. they seem to be more reliable than a Ford focus.
love my 2010 SX4 crossover. 4WD and 6spd manual with 2.OL engine
I'm in the UK and have a Suzuki Celerio 5 speed manual 1000cc 60mpg fantastic runabout. 3rd Suzuki in 25 years - brilliant little motors
The swift is brilliant too.
I had 2 Chevy Sprints and 2 Geo Metros all made by Suzuki. Great pizza delivery cars and they all went over 100,000 miles and 2 of them cracked 200,000! 😀
Had a 1998 Chevy Metro. Went to 187,000 miles and still had plenty of life. Started every time. The metal that the radiator sat on rusted away. Regularly got over 40mpg. Loved that little car!
My wife had a Geo Metro in high school and drove it throughout college. After she completed college, that car had over 500,000 miles when we sold it and it was still going!
@@jasonpatton9962 the Geo was only 3 cylinders also. Incredible little tanks!
We love suzuki in Australia.
Thank you for the video. You actually just answered a question I had about buying my next car
Had a 2008 SX 4 sedan. Automatic. Synthetic oil. Ran great. Kept it until about 100,000 miles. All at once needed a compressor, front end, work, and tuneup. Decided to get rid of it, especially when they pulled out of the United States, but regret it now. Should’ve kept it, and fixed. Was a great little car, and yes, it was under powered, but I don’t need something that burns up the roads. Great little cars
Suzuki k10b engine is a reliable and fuel efficient engine. Used mostly in cheaper suzuki cars.
Scotty I live in Jamaica and we have a lot of those here and they run very well
I drive a 1999 Camry with only 152K on the clock. BEST car I've ever owned. I only drive about 4500 miles/yr. I bought it in Jan. 2017 and including the purchase price I have $4K in it. Beat that with a stick. I LOVE my Camry. If she could cook I'd marry her. LOL
Are you that former Kiwifarms moderator who is attracted to cars?
Had a late 80s Subaru GL-10 (back in the 90s) with an Automatic and 4 cyl. That thing accelerated so slow (even with Turbocharger activated) I got fed up and switched to Domestic midsized V6s.
I have a 2019 suzuki swift I bought for USD equivalent of $11,000 new. It gets about 55 miles per gallon. It isn't very fast but it is cheap to drive. Comes with a timing chain, not a belt. Americans lost the plot when they refuse to learn to drive a manual.
Americans are too lazy for manual transmission, they don’t want to think too hard about anything, which is also why our political situation is getting so dire 😂
Just had my passenger seat cushion replaced on three of my suzukis,2 awd and one grand vitara ,for free at a Mazda dealership. They took over from suzuki on the maintenance and said that they have been replacing the seat cushions for years for free because of a recall
It's a really interesting looking car. For whatever reason they kept trying to sell us Daewoos badged as Suzuki's here. I wish we could get Swifts here, closest thing we got was the Versa Note, Ford Fiesta, Chevy Spark, Yaris hatchback, and the Honda Fit. The only one still alive here is the Mitsubishi Mirage.
The problem isn't the stick. The problem's the fact that the average American car is triple the size of your little Swift, and isn't even visible when in front of many common trucks on the road.
My 6 speed SX4 is absolutely miniscule, and I have this guy on my commute in a giant, lifted truck who literally can't see my car when I'm next to his passenger door. It's stupid scary.
It's not 1980 anymore. Manuals don't get the best gas mileage anymore.
The nice thing about the Suzuki is that it had a 6 speed stick shift.
I am an happy owner of a Suzuki Baleno 1.2 93Cv hybrid + LPG. With € 20 of LPG (30L) I can drive for 600 Km, it is really cheap to run and extremely reliable! 130.000 Km in 5 years and 0 problems, just regular maintenance. It is not a luxury car but for sure it is a good product.
I had a 1992 Suzuki Swift, 5 speed manual transmission 1.3 L engine. Got it new and got rid of it after it had over 200k on it. It was a fun little car to drive and great gas mileage....40mpg.
My wife drives one of these. It’s manual, AWD, same silver colour, with 218,000 k’s on it. Second owners, never really done anything to it. Taken it off road at times, amazing how it handles. We were going to replace it with a newer car but decided to keep it and upgrade suspension, fog lights, head unit etc. I reckon it’ll easy do another 100,000 k’s!
I have been driving my 2007 SUZUKI SX4 FWD Hatchback for 17 years and enjoying maintaining it in a good condition. It is a durable and enjoyable car. SUZUKI decided being out of US. Too bad. Come back to US again.
I just bought a Suzuki sx4 fwd 2007 with a little past 14000 km on the counter. I hope it'll hold up 🥹🤞
Got any tips for holding it in good condition?
How many km have you drove it and have u had any bigger problems with it? Does it catch corrosion easily?
We bought a new 2012 Crossover in 2013. Well here we are in August 2024. Our Suzuki does have the CVT. We keep the engine oil changed every 5k, the CVT gets a drain and fill every year. Other fluids every few years. The AC compressor has been replaced twice, I am think poor replacement parts was that issue. Parts were no issue, online , eBay or Rock auto. We are happy with ours. AWD is also nice here in Ohio.
I had a Suzuki Grand Vitara one of the best vehicles I ever owned but well over 500,000 km on it but alas the Canadian Winters and with all the crud they put on the roadways destroyed it and I had to send it believe it or not still running well but with Fred Flintstone floorboards to the Boneyard it was unfortunate they weren't very successful in this country they were great cars.
I have a 2013 GV I picked up 5 years ago with 53K on it and I love it. It feels very solid and well put together with no squeaks or rattles. Made in Japan, very capable AWD with low range and has an AISIN (Toyota) transmission. I plan on keeping it as long as possible.
I drove a manual I rented on Crete, Greece. Gas was horribly expensive. I loved it! It was peppy enough and really good around all the twisty windy roads there. If they were here in the US I would buy one. I drove all week on one tank of gas, and I drove everywhere!
The greek kids loved it in montreal too..
The suzuki jimny is its version.
Yea it reminds them of the old country -
Tough built little cars. The J20 engine were bad for head gasket and crankshaft bearings if you delayed oil changes too often. In uk the sx4 with the M16a engine went on forever, could pretty easily reach 300k miles before it even thought about retiring.
"seat cover on the top" it's literally a jacket, I love this guy lmfao 😂
I have my sx4 from 2007 with a small 1.5 liter gasoline engine. As it has a manual transmission, it can be used on the highway. Great car!
Paid $7000 cash for my 2011 Toyota Yaris with only 24,000 miles. Best deal ever.
I have a 2009 Yaris sedan. Same car as yours just 2 years older. Been a Midwest car it’s entire life. I’ve done basic maintence up until last year. Had to replace alternator, engine mount, valve cover gasket, front pads and rotors, rear drums and shoes. That was the needed maintence the last year. I went ahead and did the pcv valve just because why not it was 14 bucks from the dealer. I work at a dealership, I get good discounts on parts. My muffler is currently rotting away, but the frame is solid no rust on the frame. The hooks holding up the muffler were cheaply made/coated so of course they rusted out. Doesn’t burn any oil I change it and the filter every 3k miles. Do the trans fluid too every 35k. Car is amazing and great on gas. Blows cold air too
That is a great deal for a car that can do 300k miles.
@@jonathanmacdonald9276 yes I live in Florida so no rust. Ive done nothing but oil changes so far.
@@oreally8605 yes a no brainer. Car basically pays for itself. No car payments. No worries.
@@jonathanmacdonald9276 awesome
We got ours in 2013. It was 5 years old and had 27k on it for $7500 cash. We have auto transmission. Drove it from Jersey to Savannah in 2014, it was great. I can’t really say it’s slow. It’s definetely perkier than our 2015 Civic. I still enjoy it and won’t sell.
being an auto enthusiast myself I knew about the Suzuki swift from its rallying days 30 years ago though I've never known anybody that owned one the cheapest American car in the 90s was the Dodge Spirit my cousin Angela Sicorazza had a used 1995 white/black Spirit ST starting price on that new was 15,000 and she probably paid 7,500 when she bought it after she got her driver's license in Sept 1999 then my dad had it for a little while in 2003 after his previous used car a 1990 Volvo 760 got tea boned in East Boston. unlike for example my late maternal grandmother who bought her first Toyota Camry a base model on presidents day weekend 1990 and paid 9,300 due to a trade in and presidents day incentives
Still runs great after all these years, finding parts could be harder to find now but a part number could help in some way
Don't be afraid of buying any older Suzuki in America because of lack of parts, as you can easily find them on other Suzuki models and rebadged models sold in America still under alot of different manufacturers badges like Geo, Chev etc. Plus Suzuki vehicles are global cars so parts are cheap and plentiful around the world and can get them shipped quickly these days from overseas.
I just bought a used sx4 and very nice car I love it
I own three of the crossover versions of this car, and Scottiy's correct! I do suggest if you purchase one you get the 2010-12 though. They have the j20b engine rather than the j20a engines which are found in the 2007-09 vehicles. The earlier engines can have oil pump failures that are very pricey to fix. If it's not addressed immediately after failure, it will destroy the engine.
Also, the crossover version of this car is 2wd, awd, 4wd. Yes, you read that correctly! It's the only vehicle that has this feature in the US, I think.
If you buy it in manual, which is what I have, they can be flat towed! Oh, the manual tranny is six speed! I'm sure Scotty pointed this out.
Awesome vehicle!😂
My Dad had a Suzuki samurai for years in the early 90s and yes it rides like a washing machine on wheels.
Drive the 2012 automatic, has plenty of power, the cvt is odd for the feel, but 4x4, is love another. America needs more cars like these...not everyone needs a big 3 monster
Suzukis are underrated vehicles. I have a 2013 Grand Vitara and love it.
I couldn't access the deep OBD with my Verus when I was in biz.
We have Suzuki Swift all over Bharat (India). Best car ever made. Almost everyone either owns or would like to own one. Only difference is they are all manual shifts. Nobody wants an automatic.😃
If Scotty ever got his motorcycle up to 175 there would be no more Scotty Kilmer videos
The video kind of misses the point that the manual version is FWD/AWD/4WD via a selector. And yes, each of those really works (the 4WD mode up to 35mph). With studs here in Maine, the machine is nearly unstoppable in foul weather. They sold well in Canada and in Maine.
My Yoyota Yaris Sedan 2007 is a beast. :) Works like new and... save gas. 😁
I had a 2000 Suzuki (sport). The sport package was just Speedline low profile tires and a rear spoiler lol. It got about 32 total mpg. I bought it with 34 miles. A new driver ran me off the road and totaled it almost 20 years later with almost 280,000 miles. Minimal maintenance and a great drive. The only issue was that it was super fickle and only worked correctly with the OEM parts.
The SX4 was co-developed with Fiat.
I have a 2010 sx4 crossover, front wheel dr/ 4 wheel dr/ intelligent all wheel dr..29mpg in front wheel dr. 6/speed. Great in the snow.
poor paint job, but other than that, great little car :)
I own a Vitara LY 1.6 with M16A engine, hope to reach 100k miles with no problems 😊
Scotty's a born auto enthusiast and mechanic: happy as a lark messing with cars, especially Toyotas.
In India, Suzuki has been the top-selling car brand for the last 30 years or so. In 2022, it had a market share of 41.68%. They are economical and cheap to maintain. India runs on Suzuki
In Mexico 🇲🇽 Suzuki is kind of popular, their cars are not so expensive and are reliable but maybe theirs suspension configuration is too hard for our cracked roads. My mom’s own a 2014 Suzuki Swift 1.4 n/a 4-Speed auto and she loves it! ❤
lucky you! You can get Suzuki in Mexico, but.... they are just smaller Toyota :) made by Daihatsu!
I have an SX4 suv. Good car.
Thanks my brother.
I love this video ❤
Suzuki pick up truck was nice looking trucks
I have got three Suzukis after a Toyota, not leaving thr brand, same quality as Toyota, but less usd
I heard good things about the Suzuki Kizashi and toyed with the idea of getting one. But when they pulled out of the U.S., the parts situation gave me pause.
Don’t knock these “other” Japanese manufacturers. My dad has a Chevy LUV 4x4 made by Isuzu, it was abused to no end a business truck, often towing twice as much weight as it was rated for. Truck still runs fine today. 1985 S10 with the 1.9 Isuzu engine and a 4 speed manual Isuzu transmission, runs like a top with almost 200K or maybe 300K. Suzuki and Daihatsu made good vehicles too.
Trying to keep it a secret 🤫 Great alternative Japanese designed and made vehicles without paying the Toyota tax lol.
It's a great car. Friend bought his for $1600 5 years ago. Just basic maintenance
Man I loved my Samari , Suzuki make a Jimny but of course you can get em here in the US which really sucks
What samari?
The car is doing great. But we might get Scotty checked for a blown gasket!
😂😂😂😂
So scary Scotty was scared by crazy Texas aimers?? 😂😂😂
Even toyota sells rebadged suzukis in asian and African markets. Thats how impressive suzuki build quality is nowadays. Suzuki small cars are definitely better than small toyotas like the ultra boring yaris or vitz.
I remember another video where scotty reviewed this same suzuki but i think it was a hatchback, couldnt even search that video because scotty has a particular way of naming his videos
my 2014 ex hertz toyota yaris l. crank windows for the win.
I have a 2011 sx4. Had a problem with the exhaust. They don't last forever. I would love an electric sx4.
had a sprint made my by Suzuki couldn't kill it but it was more like a 4 wheel motorcycle Michigan rust did it in
I have an automatic and it is like going back in time, lol.
I have a 2010 manual 6 spd SX4 that is still going with 295,000 km.
WOW
@@mantrax314 Last time I saw my colleague, he has a 2009 manual, he had just over 400,000 with no problems.
The problem with Suzuki is that as of this year 2023 they no longer have to keep a supply of parts in North America and it could take a week or more to get parts.
suzuki is making bangers, reliable and cheap cars
Scotty just confirmed the car with manual transmission will go even beyond 400K miles.
Hey been watching you for years...Finally have a problem...My wife has a 2010 Cadillac srx 3.0 210,000 miles...been a pretty solid vehicle..but since April it's been going into engine power reduce/ stabilitrak warnings come on and its basically no acceleration and a only goes to 50-60 or it will not give gas at all and shutdown. Suzuki is bulletproof 💯
Top of the reliability league in the UK this year. Beat Lexus, Toyota, Honda.
8:00. I'm like Scotty in many ways. I ALWAYS make sure that the turn signal is for real!
What about Suzuki Kizashi ? No one knows about this cur but it looks amazing !
So far 18,000 views in 2 hours. The cheap car many people are going to know about. Get ready for the prices to skyrocket

Suzuki Kazashi was a quick car

not so much into the power for a commuter car. ive had a honda civic that was small and fun. a old vw rabbit conv that was fun. and then i has two suzukis, an esteem wagon and now a vitara. love them both. very reliable and economical. and both not powerful enuf for my wife to lose control, both of them are auto. we pull a small boat on a trailer with the vitara. i drive a corvette :P
I love my 1.6 sx4 guite torguey for the engine size
I have 08 sx4 crossover cute reliable little car I call it Honda fit killer
I try to tell people about that car. There bullet proof like the Toy. 22R. It’s gutless but I love my 87-90 trucks manual.
The GM Daewoo partnership in the 2000s was what ruined Suzuki in the United States. These came out after that ended but unfortunetly it never got a chance to redeem itself and ceased sales in 2012. The Suzuki Equators were rebadged Nissan Frontiers and Im sure that would of been the Suzuki version of the Mazda B Series (Ford Ranger).
the father of the chevy spark is the daewoo matiz.
Exactly. The badge-engineered Daewoos in Suzuki's lineup destroyed their reputation. The SX4 was not one of those. I wish I was in a position to find a low mileage SX4 hatch with a manual. There's one near me for sale right now, a later one with the 6-speed instead of 5.
Love you Scotty!
My 07 sentra is same way, a great little car, if you stay away from the auto garbage cvt
I dunno I have a 78 Rm125c, 78.5 Rm250C2, 96 and 2001 Rm250 Mx bikes . My son races them and sometimes I have been rumored to blast one through the neighborhood 🤣👊
